What a nice idea, I'm interested, though I can't promise if I'll be able to make it.

The Surf's Up 1971 remake track with 1966 Brian vocals is a weird thing. It's intriguing, but not a great listening experience. I wonder just how much of it was flown-in. Perhaps the muted trumpets were also flown-in. I think I would have preferred hearing the 1971 backing track as it was left, but it's still nice to be able to hear it in some form.

The 'Til I Die piano demo is an instrumental run-through of the chords, very rough and basic. But it's nice to hear Brian's voicings this clear.

Dear Stephen,

I'm trying to find out about some of the production tricks on Feel Flows, but couldn't find about it through the search engine. You might have talked about it at length in your wonderful study videos, but since those are no longer online I would like to ask you: could you tell me something about the way you achieved the different key sounds on Feel Flows?

With kind regards,

Yorick

So while it looks like the much rumoured McCartney single did not appear today, the first single taken of my forthcoming second solo album did materialize!
It's called More Than Words, is a bit McCartney-esque I feel and can be streamed and purchased here:

*PRESS RELEASE * PRESS RELEASE * PRESS RELEASE *

On Saturday April 21, the album Unsung Heroes by Anne Soldaat (Daryll-Ann, Jason Falkner) & Yorick van Norden will be released in a limited edition as a Record Store Day item in the Netherlands by Excelsior Recordings. The CD can be ordered online exclusively through www.unsung-heroes.nl.

On the record, the duo honors artists who do not deserve to be forgotten.
"Heroes like Gene Clark, Gram Parsons, Biff Rose, Badfinger and Dennis Wilson are often overlooked as a result of the canonization of pop music history", says Yorick van Norden.

Anne Soldaat: "Of course we could also have chosen to record '13 Smashes from the Sixties'. Pick the low-hanging fruit - so to speak. But none of that. We're too much archaeologists and missionaries at the same time. Add an innate sympathy for the musical underdog whose oeuvre - no matter how small or buried under a layer of dust - has stood the test of time and needs to be heard. Those artists are our 'Unsung Heroes' and they deserve not to be forgotten."

Over the past two years, the two traveled extensively throughout the Netherlands with their eponymous music performance. "Several times we were asked afterwards whether the performance was also available on CD, so that people could listen to the songs at home again", says Yorick. "At first we thought that was a stupid idea, because we had selected these songs on the basis of our love for the enormous expressiveness and magic of the original recordings. But as the tour progressed and people kept asking, we realized that some songs actually had very little in common with the original performances. They had started leading their own lives. "

Together with bass player Danny van Tiggele (Mister and Mississippi) and drummer Kees Schaper (Tim Knol, Clean Pete and Bent Van Looy), the album was recorded in SSE Noord, Amsterdam last month. Anne Soldaat and Yorick van Norden produced the album in collaboration with Frans Hagenaars.

Unsung Heroes will be available as a CD from Saturday 21 April and from Friday 11 May as a download and stream.
The CD can be ordered online exclusively via www.unsung-heroes.nl.

Does anyone know where I can find the supposedly circulating a capella Meant For You or does anyone have a vocal transcription of the harmonies?

Is the talented Scott Bennett mentioned in the book?
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 25/07: Pet Sounds 50 - Tribute to the Beach Boys at The Concertgebouw, Amsterdam on: August 01, 2016, 03:45:58 AM
Last minute decision, got probably last ticket as well. There were some outstanding performances by Jett Rebel but he has a great voice and he did a great Still I Dream Of It and of course Wouldn't It Be Nice was his song. Also the girls who call themselves Clean Pete were more than great. They did a great Surfer Moon, with violins, and their You Still Believe In Me, sung in Dutch, was the highlight of the evening. They made use of the big Concertgebouw organ in the second half of the song. That made a great impression. Also, as an encore, a pitch perfect And Your Dreams Come True. Sadly, no recording was made of the concert.

Well If Brian doesn't come to Holland to do his Pet Sounds 50 concert, at least we made our own party. Thanks Yorick.

Thank you so much for coming and for your kind words! I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, it's quite a thrill bringing this amazing music in a sold out Concertgebouw! There is a soundboard recording of the concert and someone kindly uploaded the complete Pet Sounds on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04CXLweXDFI

We might do a couple more shows throughout the Netherlands next year!

Hi all! This coming Monday there'll be a big Beach Boys tribute concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It's a historic venue where the Beach Boys themselves have even performed some times in the late 60s, early 70s. The backingband will consist of drums, bass, keys, guitars, strings, French horn, saxophone, percussion, flute and five backing singers and a collection of Dutch singers who are known to be serious about their love of the Beach Boys will handle the leadvocals.

It's been a honour for me to help form the band, pick the singers and curate the setlist and I'll be handling lots of guitars, keys, backing vocals and leadvocals myself as well.
There'll be an integral performance of Pet Sounds preceeded by a collection of Nuggets ranging from All I Wanna Do to Girl Don't Tell Me to Long Promised Road to Still I Dream Of It to Lonely Sea to And Your Dreams Come True to Wonderful. If anyone's in the area and didn't know about it, please drop by!

Greetings,

Yorick

Ah that's very sad to hear. He made some great charts and hosted a very useful website. Mostly everything that was on there would be welcome, especially the Pet Sounds material. Would you be willing to e-mail me what you still have saved? That would be greatly appreciated! My emailaddress is info@yorickvannorden.nl.
