They should have completed this song and put it out as a single on the heels of Endless Summer in 1974 or '75. Could have been a bigger hit this way I guess but it's always hard to say with these guys.
Another missed opportunity not unlike the Christmas single “Child Of Winter” released too late in December 1974 to really make an impact. There’s been several times they didn’t strike while the iron was hot. There’s numerous Beach Boys songs from the late Sixties through the Eighties that with the right timing and marketing could’ve been hits or even bigger hits. Heroes and Villains, Darlin, Wild Honey, Do It Again, I Can Hear Music, Slip On Through, This Whole World, California, Sail On Sailor, Good Timin, Keepin The Summer Alive, Goin On and Getcha Back are all good examples. At least The Medley, Wipeout and Kokomo charted well.

It's OK is indeed, just that. I can see that, I guess it’s the standout track among more mediocre songs on the album, except maybe for Had To Phone Ya. I think a song as commercial and catchy as “It’s OK” for that time in their career was proof that indeed Brian was Back!

Been revisiting this Lost Classic and it’s really a shame that “It’s Ok” wasn’t a bigger hit despite the commercial success of “15 Big Ones”. Having followed the top 5 hit “Rock and Roll Music” this radio friendly number should’ve been an even bigger Billboard success.
It makes you wonder what could have made the difference, was the single perhaps too short? Maybe the lack of awareness of the title (only mentioned once, Should've been called Find a Ride or Get With It?) It certainly didn’t help that it was released too late in the Summer, there certainly could have been a lack of promotion as well.
It’s too bad, I think “It’s OK” is one of their best post 60’s Summer themed pop creations and miles above Kokomo.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Favorite Beach Boys Moments

What’s your favorite moment on a Beach Boys song? Maybe something inventive that jumps out of a song. For me, I’ve always liked the “I’ve got a heart that won’t stop beating for you.” part in Aren’t You Glad with the drum beat sounding like a thumping heart, always thought that was clever.

Agreed, that recording of Dennis singing Rhonda is one of my favorite live BB tracks. Just pure, raw energy, warts and all. Would have loved to have seen the band do that live with Dennis. Mine too, it seems criminal to not include that version of Rhonda on In Concert or any songs with Dennis on lead, Forever, Slip On Through, It’s About Time or Lady would’ve brought the house down. Further criminal considering he’s the only Beach Boy on the cover.

This is a fantastic collection you’ve compiled shangaijoeBB, thanks for sharing and great set list for the live album, too. I’ve always loved Dennis’ bluesy, bar rock rendition of Help Me Rhonda from the New Jersey Show in 72, would’ve fit nicely on In Concert.

Allegedly All I Wanna Do.
I’ve heard this, too, although Brian may have assisted with the music aspect of the composition. Perhaps Mike was inspired by TM and may very well have composed some of the music for AIWD/Sunflower and Friends...Who Knows?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mike The Melody Maker

There’s Love the lyricist and Big Sur, where he wrote the words and music but are there other Beach Boys songs where Mike wrote at least part of the melody or most/all of the music? I recall reading that Mike had written the melody for Let The Wind Blow and Anna Lee The Healer. Anyone know if this is true and of other examples?

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Songs That Could’ve Fit On Pet Sounds

This may have been a thread topic before but what other Beach Boys songs do you think would’ve fit on Pet Sounds? What songs by other artists sound influenced by Pet Sounds or Brian in general? I’ve always found Dennis’ Be With Me had a lot of Brian’s influence with the lush orchestration, production and overall style and vibe.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Last Beach Boys song you heard on the radio

A frivolous thread topic I know (and who still listens to the radio anymore?) but what was the last Beach Boys song you heard on the radio? Perhaps it was Help Me Rhonda on an am oldies station or Sail On Sailor on an Fm classic rock station. I just heard When I Grow Up (To Be a Man) on the excellent oldies station in Windsor/Detroit.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Songs That Should’ve Been Hits

This topic has probably been covered before but what Beach Boys song (released or otherwise) do you think should’ve been released as a single? Or perhaps a single that should’ve charted higher? For me there are many but one in particular is Soulful Old Man Sunshine, I think it sounded radio friendly and commercial with the potential to be a hit. I also think the catchy Slip On Through single should’ve made a bigger impact on the charts.
