Probably Let It Be but Here, There and Everywhere or Back In The U.S.S.R. would be cool.  Cool

R.E.M., particularly Peter Buck and Mike Mills, you can hear the Beach Boy influence on albums like Reveal.

Have you heard Laura Nyro's original version of And When I Die? If not, I'd recommend it.

I have and it's as brilliant as one would expect from her, she's penned many classic songs, truly an exceptional talent.

And When I Die - Blood Sweat and Tears, for a song about death it's upbeat!

Sweetness Follows - R.E.M., not so upbeat

Tim Gane and Laetitia Sadier.

Stereolab are big fans of Brian's and are greatly influenced by him. Rivers Cuomo and Weezer are also Beach Boy fans.

We know The Beach Boys have fans in other fellow bands and musicians like the Beatles especially Paul McCartney and his love for Pet Sounds and Eric Clapton who also loves Pet Sounds. Do you know of any other bands, musical artists or even other celebrities like actors who are known to be Beach Boys fans, do you know what specific songs they like?

Soulful Old Man Shunshine is certainly a fine example of pop-jazz!

Quite possibly one of the best songs ever IMHO. Good Vibrations and Feel Flows are also very jazzy in nature.  Cool

118  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Carl Dean Wilson on: February 06, 2012, 03:07:50 PM
On this date in 1998, the world lost a beautiful and talented man, Carl Wilson as we all know passed away from lung cancer and The Beach Boys were deprived of one of their most important voices. As a tribute to Carl, feel free to talk about your favorite lead vocal or composition, any memories you have or just to say some nice words .  Carl sang lead on many classic Beach Boys songs, God Only Knows and Good Vibrations among others. My personal favorites by Carl are I Can Hear Music, Time To Get Alone and Feel Flows.  Carl was a kind and gentle man and in the music industry where there's a lot of cynicism this was a rare thing. Thank you Carl for sharing your beautiful voice and music with the world, you are greatly missed.

I agree, Big Sur is stunningly beautiful, Carry Me Home, California Slide and many others need to be officially released!
120  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: The Beach Boys and Ronald Reagan??? on: February 06, 2012, 02:56:19 PM
Brian had once stated that The Beach Boys were "Bi partisan" and that he was uncomfortable taking sides. I had read somewhere that in the 2000 election Brian had voted for Gore and in 2004 he voted for Bush. I think it's been documented that The Wilson brothers and their parents were basically Democrats, Mike probably voted both Democrat and Republican, Bruce votes Republican and Al? well I'm not sure.

Great question and I'm going to go with the obvious one, The Beatles In My Life.

When Blondie and Ricky joined the BB's, they gave the band a certain punch and helped make them really polished live performers. They contributed some really cool sounding songs as well like Here She Comes and Leaving This Town.

All I Want To Do
For a late 60's hard rock track that has aged remarkably well and still sounds pretty rad.

Yes! For sure, Another cool Dennis rocker, he was good at this! It's too bad The Beach Boys didn't re-invent themselves in a way that would have Dennis as the cool, sexy frontman and main songwriter.
