I kind of love this version. The reharmonization in the verses is pretty damn cool and the overall arrangement wouldn't be out of place on BW "88" and Bruce sings it beautifully.

Nobody mentioned that Mike is singing that new middle 8 and there's a nod to the descending bassline of "I'm Waiting for the Day" played by a DX7 (I think) on the outro fade.

I love that story ESQ. Stamos seems like a legit good guy. Nelson's a great guy too (met him a few times along w/ the rest of the band) but I don't think he sabotaged anything.

Stamos just seems happy to be there and face it, those Full House appearances really helped the Beach Boys get to a new audience as cringe-worthy as their image/new tunes were in the 80s...Kokomo was a huge hit and arguably their most famous at this point w/ those born in the 80s/90s.

My guess is that Brian is going to retire from touring...

I don't think Darian is with him either these days.

Palm mute the strings above anything else. The bass sound is mostly from that with flat wound strings of course too. Almost any bass will do if it's got flats. Listen to the bass on the verse of Good Vibes. Hear it? That bass sound is all over Wild Honey as well as Beck's "Sea Change" LP.

That is VERY cool. Lots of the same tricks used on "I Just Wasn't Made..." and "Let's Go Away for a While."

Especially the different piano rhythms in the choruses interacting with the straight 4/4 drums and the static basslines. I think this might be the real link to Pet Sounds from a production standpoint.

The whole LP is now on Spotify. This "Ballad of Old Betsy" demo is really cool. Always loved this song but it's such an obvious re-write of Surfer Girl!

It's pretty good but there's some sort of stereo phase issue happening so it kind of sounds weird.
The United Western TL Space ones are good but a little thin. I prefer the EMT140 plates or the spring verb ones as well.

It's not sped up. It's just just his normal voice in a higher register. It sounds so strange because it's probably the highest we've heard him sing.

Andy Williams' version is THE definitive version for me.
It tones down the cheesiness and he sings it fantastically. The outro where he nails the powerful high note is amazing.
Makes the original sound like an awful cover. The arrangement is great too.

I definitely hear an RMI Electra-piano on the verses of "Add Some Music" and "Passing By."

The drums on it sound new and maybe some other newer overdubs?
Technically, it sounds great but the song is pretty much one chorus over and over.

I'm guessing that the the "2012 Mixes" are probably from the Smile Sessions box and the 50 Big Ones set.
