1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian Wilson & Don Was Interview 1991 on: March 10, 2022, 07:27:18 PM
Never heard this great interview before.

Cool to hear Brian perform a Sweet Insanity-era song on piano.

This recent story says Brian is worth 100 million:

NONE of these "net worth" articles are correct or remotely factual. Check the source.

The acapella Marcella on the box set has SO much more edge and excitement than what they released on "So Tough." A big missed opportunity imo.

In interviews, they've mentioned it's supposed to have a Stones vibe - and while I hear that in the main riff — the performance and sounds are bland and watered-down. Apologies to those involved but they missed the mark on making this a rocker.

"Won't You Tell Me" sounds like The Association — and that's a complement!

Howie rules. I implore everyone to give his podcast Fabcast a listen. You'll be hooked.

Where did you purchase the hi-res Surf's Up acapella??

Incredible song. Top-notch vocals, Brian's involved, and that key change/sax solo is a winner. One of their best late-era tunes.

^ John MAYER, not MAYALL

Who is that woman (named Diane – NOT Diane Rovell) in the article above?

His page says portions will be donated to charity.

I personally don't have an issue w/ Mike joining Cameo. I think it's a great platform and can bring a lot of happiness to people.

Really fantastic work.

Some of Brian's chord changes are breathtaking and mysterious – especially on the "I try to rationalize" line. Great use of major and minor sevenths.

This I must say is rather darn good AND AGAIN EASTER EGG TIME
The whole SIP remixed/added to bastardized etc....
This guy (or gal) is very clever , Summer Of Love has snips of R&R to the Rescue/Some Of Your Love etc.......
Do enjoy (or try to)  LOL

This is incredible. I've never heard SiP before and this video might be the best time to check it out.

Here's audio of Brian performing "Melt Away" in the late '80s. It's a strange performance. The lead vocal and the band are performed live but the harmonies are sampled from the record.

I LOVE the mixing on Sunflower/Surf's Up but I think part of the reason those records weren't commercially successful is that the drums aren't very audible in the mix. I could be completely wrong (and no disrespect to Mr. Desper's incredible work) but that's my POV.

Compare the BBs early-'70s mixes to their peers at the time (CSNY, Neil Young, etc.) — the drums are a larger part of the overall picture w/ a more "rock" sound.

I would be interested to hear a remix, knowing that nothing can replace the released mixes.

Excessive weed or hash usage can definitely cause auditory hallucinations or psychiatric breaks in human beings — especially young adults. I have a feeling that this is what caused Brian's early mental health issues given that he was very prone to addictive behavior.
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Loose, Speculative, Controversial, Feel-Flown Thread about FEEL FLOWS on: September 22, 2020, 07:02:10 AM
My wild guess is that certain Beach Boys only want to release this when they're able to go on tour to promote the set.

18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set on: September 14, 2020, 04:32:02 PM
My wild guess is that certain folks don't want to release this set until they're able to tour. Or that one of the songwriters of the Sunflower album doesn't want his unreleased or demo material to be heard by the public.
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: This 1976 Brian interview is hilarious on: September 10, 2020, 03:49:19 PM
This is INCREDIBLE. I've never heard this before and it's incredible on BW at the time. He sure would've been fun to hang with in that era. No wonder why he had a great time recording Love You (#coke)

Brian and Bruce (?!) - California Girls, 1998

And Timothy B. Schmitt of the Eagles and Christopher Cross. So strange haha.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / How Is Brian Doing? on: September 01, 2020, 07:01:54 PM
It's a weird world right now. I wonder how the big guy is doing these days. Any updates?

I also wonder about the rest of the guys.

Is this the longest break Mike and Bruce have ever taken away from the road?
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Endless Harmony, The Song on: July 17, 2020, 09:14:39 PM
Great harmonies as always but ultra-corny lyrics, song, and production.

Really to hear Brian cover a Four Freshmen song ("Our Love is Here to Stay")
.

If Howie is excited, I'm extra excited. Thanks for chiming in, H. This is my favorite era of the band song-wise and production-wise. A really interesting and short-lived period of consistently good work.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: Sunshine Tomorrow 2CD Set, 2017 on: June 04, 2020, 01:53:39 PM
I don't see many discussions on Surf's Up 1967 on this box, but Brian sounds very stoned and that's why it's taking him so many takes to just perform a verse.
He was HEAVY a weed smoker.
