Let The Wind Blow is also one of my favorite songs too.Not the studio version, but the "timeless", majestic Live version from "Beach Boys In Concert 1973".
Carls singing of LTWB sends a shiver up my spine everytime. It always takes me back to growing up in Media,Pa when I was 10 or 11 years old.Always been a fav that song........

Zenyatta Mondatta for me!
Mainly because of "Bomb's Away" and "Don't Stand So Close To Me".Nothing more sinister than the beginning of "Don't Stand..." with the MOOG Taurus Bass Pedal  ominously droning.

"Young teacher, the subject of school girl fantasy....."

This most obviously shows the "education" that Van Dyke Parks has when it comes to obscure Hawaiian literature.
So much so that he calls Hawaii the "Sandwich Islands" which they were once called.
VDP is a very educated and intelligent man. It's probably not a coincidence that he wrote "Wonderful" with the above story in mind?

I stumbled across these rare gems from the early 70's on YouTube. The first of these live videos is a '74 version of "Supper's Ready" that I've never seen! And it sounds amazing.

Enjoy these 4 masterpieces!

After seeing the Movie version of the Broadway Musical  RENT,I'd like to see Christopher Columbus direct the Brian Wilson story.
Columbus did an amazing job of adapting RENT from the stage to the big screen.

Away from Jack Rieley's deepening paranoia.......I just read the 2 part threads that were posted from back in 1996 and was quite impressed by Rieley's "contributions" and insightfulness.
Does anyone of you know how to contact him and see if he'd be interested  in coming back on board here after a 10 year absence??
It seems pretty unanamous that everybody misses Dennis Wilson.Jack had some woderful words of praise for Denny.

Exciting News?   Yes!
Could it turn out to be a huge disappointment musically?   YES!!!

Collins,Banks and Rutherford WITHOUT Gabriel & Hackett can only mean Commercial Genesis songs once again.Other than doing "Dance On A Volcano",I wouldn't get my hopes up that you're going to hear "Supper's Ready" or "The Cinema Show" done live.

And,will Chester Thompson & Darryl Steurmer re-join the Live line-up?

This is going to be interesting fellow Genesis fans.......

The whole album is excellent in sound quality.I have it on both Vinyl and CD.

And who could forget these immortal lyrics from "Battle Of Epping Forest":

"It's 5-4 on William Wright; he made his pile on Derby night.
When Billy was a kid, walking the streets,
the other kids hid - so they did!
And now, after working hard in security trade, he's got it made.
The shops that need aid are those that haven't paid.

"I do my double-show quick!" said Mick the Prick, fresh out the nick.
"I sell cheap holiday. The minute they leave,
then a visit I pay - and does it pay!"
And his friend, Liquid Len by name,
of Wine, Women and Wandsworth fame,
said "I'm breaking the legs of the bastard that got me framed!"

Now that's Genesis!!

Malc,
I'm so glad you wrote that one of your Favs is the obscure "Vancouver" from the "And Then There Were Three..." sessions!!  I thought I was the only one that LOVED that song.
I'm bummed gang. The Musical Box is playing this Fri & Sat. in Philly(Tower Theater)doing Foxtrot on Fri. and Selling England Sat. I've got gigs to play both nights and am pissed that I have to miss this.Even though I've seen the MB 4 times in the last 4 years.
I would say "Duke" was their last "good" album. After that.......to commercial.

Hi Steve,
I have to agree with Matt-zeus.Most of us here are muscians and would like to hear the correct versions of SF/SU.
It would be strictly for OUR ears only.I don't see any legal issues considering we're sending you our CD's in exchange for another.
Hope you're feeling better Stephen.
I'm ready to send my CD when you give the OK.
Cheers,
Brian

Craig,
I think that's a Les Paul Junior or a Special inside the "In Concert 73" album.

119  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's song obsessions on: August 16, 2006, 04:39:36 AM
Brian's obsession with listening to certain songs could also be perceived that he Enjoys the songs! They "move" him in such a way that, just like a Drug,he is always seeking that "feeling" that a particular song gives him.Just my take being a muscian mySelf.
In fact,I listen to "Our Sweet Love","At My Window","Cool,Cool Water","Day In The Life..Tree","'Til I Die" every single day here at work.Sometimes twice a day!  It's the "feeling" from the song, the harmonies that just send a shiver up my spine. It's how you "resonate" with certain tones and how the song moves you.
Could it really be obsession? Or just enjoyment?

The Beach Boys ARE the soundtrack to my life here in Physical Reality!! I'm a 31 year lead-guitarist in the Philly area and it all started with "In Concert '73".That was my 1st rock album. It got the ball rolling as far as being a muscian. The Hard Rock and Metal started in 1975 when I purchased KISS Alive!  Then there was no turning back.I still play 3 weekends a month with my band Acoustically Challenged.Never to "old" to Rock n' Roll BuddhaHat!!!

BuddhaHat,
I couldn't agree with you more! I'm 43 now and "When I Grow Up.." resonates now so much more since I first heard it when I was 9 years old.
"At My Window" has that nostalgic effect as well.Reminds me of when I was about 10 listening to that song and album(Sunflower) and watching Sparrows land right outside MY window.

"The river's a bed of sweet berries and flowers
Banks of thirsty lies
(Please be careful)
The stream is an eyeglass of heroes
Bridged with bright replies
The creek is a funnel of forgiveness
Winning every prize
Steamboat of living ever faithfully ride.

The river's a dream in a waltz time
Banks of jasper glaze
(Have a ball and sing)
The stream is a timepiece of children
Bridged with crystal haze
The creek is a trumpet of hard times
Blowing tasty days
Steamboat of living ever faithfully glide.

Don't worry mister Fulton
We'll get your steamboat rollin'."

Especially on the Live Album '73.Mike Love's low-voice is just killer on "Daughter of Neptune, the ruler of the sea."
