Amazing Drummer! He of course drummed on one of my favorite songs: Help Me, Rhonda. I love his humor during Brian's sessions too, he kept the guys in a good mood. I remember when I first heard about who Hal was. To me he was just a voice just like all of the others in the Crew, since I had never seen a picture or videos of him. Then I got the Smile 2004 Beautiful Dreamer DVD for my Birthday. That was the first time I seen Hal and all of the other musicians in person. Then as the years went by interviews with others had appeared on YouTube or Documentaries from Billy Strange to Leon Russell. I always enjoyed Hal, because he seemed like this huge presence in the Beach Boy's world; thanks to my introduction of the Crew from The Beach Boys An American Family on ABC. When I found out that he played on other stuff I had heard on the oldies station, that blew me away too. As someone said on Facebook, the next Thunder Storm we have, will it be Dennis or Hal? Well, time for some Vegetable Arguments and Amusement Parks U.S.A.

I love how they covered everything in these releases! Acapellas, Backing Tracks, Custom Mixes such as on Do It Again the Alternate Stereo Mix, giving us the final Sections of Been Way To Long/Can't Wait Too Long, Unreleased Tracks and even things like the 1966 Track Mix for CIFOTM. Some interesting things so far I noticed were Dennis's All I Want To Do really was his song, Lead Vocal and all! Why did he give it to Mike? Only two things I noticed was missing was a Backing Track for Do It Again and Busy Doin Nothin' minor gripes. I must say Dennis was becoming like Brian, very experimental with things like the Gong Sessions and even the Mona Kana demo with the Moog, I love it!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Barney Kessel WIBN Mandolin Found AND Sold Nov 10th...But the mystery deepens...

While we have this discussion open, can we talk about another Mandolin filled song? Do You Wanna Dance? Now Craig confirmed it is a Mandolin on the Basic Track and it was Overdubbed later to Double it. Was Billy Strange playing a regular Mandolin or one of these Hybrids? It almost sounds like a Guitar more than Mandolin. Was it close miked or through Direct Injection? Just curious, as this Topic maybe me think about it today. Oh and yes you can hear Barney's Mandolin clear as day on the Session tape. He is louder than Jerry's 12-String Guitar. You tell that's a 12-String Guitar underneath Barney's Mandolin. Maybe Brian or Larry Levine added some compression to Barney's Mandolin, to dampen the sound, so it isn't as fiddly.

While I’ll agree that this album isn’t for everyone, I hope everyone checks out this RPO version of Disney Girls. Had they done the whole album like that song I think it would be getting a much better reception among us more ardent fans.
One thing that I forgot to gripe about: the harpsichord on YSBIM is so jarring from the original that I can’t enjoy the song at all. The original version has that heavenly harpsichord (Brian made it sound like an instrument that has never been played before or since the recording of Still Believe In Me) and that magic is completely missing from this version.
And one positive thing I will re-emphasize, this version of Sloop John B is amazing. They really made it into their own track without destroying the heart of the original version. And they added that extra vocal goodie at the end which really makes that track for me.
Get a good pair of headphones or speakers and listen to just Disney Girls and Sloop John B, it’s worth it.
I agree with YSBIM it does nothing new. Same with California Girls, there is a Take during the original Session from 1965 where Brian complains about too much G#d D#mn Vibe. Well the new PH mix has just that, too much Vibraphone. Sloop works great since the used the original Vocal Tracks as well as parts of the original Instrumental 4-Track. You can really hear the Glockenspiel, Bari Saxes and Drums Track. I wished they had used Bill Strange's high 12-String part though. It's so magical on it's own. I'm sure they could have cheated on Good Vibs as well since some of the Vocals exist as well as the complete Backing Track Masters.

I'm here to talk about some interesting things on the album. Sounds like on Help Me, Rhonda they were able to pull The Guitars on the intro from the Mono Master as well as Carl's Solo. His solo sounds less echoey. I sent the MP3 file through a channel separator in Audacity. You hear the true fiddly sound that Carl was trying to play. Makes me wonder though was Help Me, Rhonda suppose to be a Country Rock song? On Heroes and Villains, it sounds like they found some of the missing 2nd verse vocals which had been missing for a while and isolated them for the mix. Brian sings a single vocal during that part, which is doubled on the Mono Mix. These vocals weren't used on the Sunshine Tommorrow Vol. 2 Vocal only Mix. On Kokomo, you can hear a buried Bruce harmony vocal double. Which is awesome! On Wouldn't It Be Nice, Mike's Solo Vocal is isolated for the bridge which is clearer than ever before. Better than the Stereo Mix. Lastly on Good Vibrations all they had to work with was the Mono Master but, with technology they were able to push elements up in the mix.

So they just played the RPH version of Fun,Fun,Fun and it sounded better than before. I think they gave the album a deadline because they wanted to remix it more. Tweak the balance between everything. It no longer sounds like the original with strings slapped on. I also heard some more session chatter from Help Me, Rhonda that had never before been heard. Including on bootlegs. Please release a 1965 sessions box set Capitol, it would be awesome!

Had to comment again, what a cool station! Finally heard Help Me, Rhonda with the session stuff. Yes it does have excerpts from the Album version as well as a quick snatch of some Single version stuff at first. One thing I noticed about the session excerpts was that most of it was from the Today and Summer Days sessions. Could Capitol be working on something and not telling us? Another clue I heard was the snatch of dialog from the When I Grow Up To Be a Man sessions, where it actually was audibly enhanced to hear it clearer like the SMILE boxset stuff. Why enhance a section of dialog instead of using a part more clearer. I also love the stories from the guys too,Mike even says admits that he and Brian wrote lyrics together and the music was all Brian. With this station and the project coming out in June I think we have more coming I have that feeling.

I like it! It's different, isn't that what Brian was about? Trying different things! Imagine that Brian from 1966 went back to his original recordings and decided to add Strings and Brass because, he thought they needed something. Would fans hate it? Nope, because it's what Brian might have done. Remember Jan Berry also did an entire Album of Orchestrations using Jan and Dean's hits.
