Will any UK cinemas be showing it?

So I've got row 2 seats at the Albert Hall at the same time as I'm meant to be at Glastonbury (which is the other side of the country more or less, and not easy to get in or out of).

I'm conflicted as to what to do. This wasn't a problem before the reschedule.

Had a leaf though this at WH Smith’s earlier in the week, it’s quite good

Hence the long delays and absence of stock on Amazon. Looks like they were onto something.

I thought it seemed a bit soon from the announcement.

Well, for now the film exists in the brains of the people who watched it at the film festival in New York. I hope it goes further than that some day.

One film I monitored about another band got stuck in licensing hell for years after its premiere - as it was full of music, the record label couldn't come to a negotiation with the producers over the use of the songs contained. Lets hope they don't have this problem.

Amazon U.K. also lowered the presale price to £74.91 (all pre orders will go out at the lowest price it hits before release)

The children's TV series Around the World with Willy Fogg (1980s) has something sounding a bit like a Beach Boys (or Four Freshman) harmony at the end of its theme. It almost sounds like Brian's falsetto getting louder one each line.

No to a biopic, but yes to a 4K widescreen documentary. The Beatles last one in the 90s is looking a bit old hat now, and the BBs one is even more dated.

Purchased on 7 June my 5cd version from Amazon Italy for 68.85 Euros including tax (8% Swiss VAT) and includes delivery to Switzerland.

If I order today from Amazon IT, it is now 80.86 Euros.

It is a little strange how the prices can vary so much from Amazon site to Amazon Site. In my experience sometimes Amazon IT is cheaper and sometimes Amazon De. if you buy a French artist, Amazon FR is often the cheapest.

Amazon UK has since Brexit become much more expensive than Amazon DE but even then there are exceptions.

PS: My first post to this Board although I have lurked for years. Been a Beach Boy fan since 1973 when I was still at school in the UK - the second LP I bought was Holland (first LP John Lennon's Imagine).

It's gone from £79 to £86 on Amazon UK too. A constant £90 on HMV though. Glad I got in early Smiley

Now on Amazon U.K. for £79.68

The 'Til I Die piano demo is an instrumental run-through of the chords, very rough and basic. But it's nice to hear Brian's voicings this clear.

Where are you listening to it?

Still no stock for the 5CD on Amazon UK, oddly

Makes no sense.

I went with Amazon France

Is that from the UK? I went with HMV after a few minutes of panic. I'm a bit wary of ordering stuff from Europe post-Brexit in case they slap on a hefty surcharge. Plus I don't want to contribute to Jeff Bezos' space holiday.

Yeah the France one will attract tax. I'm assuming that Amazon UK will open sales up within the month

Good spot but is anyone other than the official BB site selling the coloured vinyls? International shipping is horrific

Is this more helpful?  It SEEMS to be a UK store but has the total in US $'s.

Oh well done. And if you use SOV10OFF1 you get 10% off - making it £78.94 delivered, rather than the £126 from the official site.

Also the official site happily cancelled my order, despite a line in their FAQs saying that "it is not possible" (I mean, it obviously is)

Is it only the 5CD that comes with a book?

No, it's an official store exclusive.  The Who recently did this with their SELL OUT vinyl package.

Ok, thank you

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

It is. Live bands always sound better when they have to struggle a bit to get the song across.

You know everybody talking about how Brian is more active to the eye or whatever you'd call it, I think it comes down to this...the less there needs to be from Brian on-stage, the less you'll get. Look at the late '70s Beach Boys. Obviously the touring group had showed for over ten years that they could do great shows without Brian. When he played with them live during the late '70s and early '80s you didn't see him usually doing all that much. But if you look at the mid '80s when he started doing the occasional solo appearance, you'd see him playing piano and singing with gusto. This basically continued up until the Imagination period. But then you watch something like that Fender Presents appearance he did with Blondie and Nicky, you see an engaged and upbeat Brian.

Now obviously these days he moves a bit slower then he did 25 years ago. Who of us doesn't? But I think when he wants to, he can still deliver.

BW's band and the current BB band are kinda the same in that regard; the more you fill the stage with session musicians, the closer it sounds to the record and the less interesting it gets.

Live bands sound better with fewer rather than more musicians

Of course, one could also make the argument (and some have) that Hungry Heart is itself an homage to Brian & the Beach Boys on the basis of its instrumental track, backing vocals, arrangement and sped-up lead vocal.  So that might complicate any litigation a bit too, i.e.., an interesting situation where you record an homage to a band, and then said band turns around and rips off your homage to them.  Well, the whole thing has a certain "ouroboros" quality to it.

Wonder if Mike will ever sue the Beatles for not crediting him for Back in the USSR - that must be worth a few quid

London show cancelled - and unlike Brian's show, no replacement date

Quote
We regret to inform you that the The Beach Boys shows at The Royal Albert Hall have been cancelled.

Statement:“Due to continuing restrictions on international travel and public gatherings The Beach Boys’ performances scheduled for 11 and 12 June 2021 at the Royal Albert Hall, London, will not take place. Sadly it has proved impossible to reschedule them and therefore the shows have been cancelled”

Refunds will be issued automatically back to the account you used when making the purchase. As part of the refund process we will be in touch again when The Beach Boys announces their next plans.

For now, keep safe, keep healthy and look after each other.

Your friends at AXS

The weird thing is that BW's UK shows after 21st June would all be allowed to run

Does Brian ever do 4 days in a row? Might make Glastonbury 2022 possible.

Unfortunately, I'll be at Glastonbury 2022, so won't be able to see him in the Albert Hall now.
