I remember seeing Bruce's home on a real estate website when he was selling it. It was fairly modest but very nice with very nice views too. I remember the piano room. Looked pretty cool but

Al moved up to Big Sur around 1976. If you remember the Beach Boys It's Ok TV special from the Big Brian's Back tour of 1976, the house and  Pfeiffer beach were included in the segment of Al Performing Help Me Rhonda. Mentioned he had just recently moved there. His place in Big Sur, down Sycamore is amazing.....and yes, you can walk to Pfeiffer Beach in about a minute.

As an aside, the home that Carl and Annie rented in Malibu is also in this special, in the Paul McCartney attended Brian's birthday bash. As stated above.

Interesting, I remember that scene where Brian didn't want to get out of the car. But I don' think it was to visit Carl's wife Gina, I just think it was to get out of the car and look more closely at the house. Could be wrong, but I doubt if Gina Martin still lives there after all this time, so little is known of her today, but for some reason I thought she had remarried. Nota t all sure though.

I visited Al's house in  Big Sur a few years ago. When I say "visited" I mean I drove past the gated entrance, all the way down Sycamore Canyon road in Big Sur about 2 miles from the road after a real sharp turn by a bunch of mailboxes, just before Pfifer Beach. What I always remember as being so cool, other than a beautiful drive down a windy road on the way to the beach....there was a big old woody in the grass right across from the entrance. It was really cool....what a spot for a house!

Beg to differ, but I thought the 25th anniverrssary show was a bit of a sham. Other than when the Boys sang their own songs. But when they supported the other artists you couldn't even tell it was them on BVs. There was a ton of editing done too after the show. Just not my cup of tea.

As voted by the fans great to hear God Only Knows voted number one!

In a 5 hour span, I heard Surfer Girl 3 times, Breakaway twice, and  Marcella 3 times. The Beach Boys channel is a great concept, but it could have been so much better than this. Oh well, I'm still listening.

It was a great interview. They are so both genuinely believable and good people

Make that "Depp's vocals AREN'T really that good"!
61  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Jeff Beck Album w/ BB & Dennis Wilson Covers on: June 24, 2022, 07:49:23 AM
Not bad at all, Depp's vocals are really that good, but how great is it after 45 years to hear a Dennis song live in concert!!! Absolutely cool, and it does make one think just how Time may have sounded live had Dennis ever gotten the chance to perform it.
62  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2022 Tour Thread (Plus Archived 2021) on: June 22, 2022, 02:56:14 AM
My opinion,  but I do think Brian wants to tour. The last time I saw Brian I think was in 2018 it was the third or fourth time I saw the "final" Pet sounds show. Having seen them all Brian's vocals had gotten particularly weak as he pretty much spoke the words as opposed to singing. That was pretty much it for me in terms of going to see Brian Wilson perform,  love the man loved his music and would support anything that allows him to do what he wants to do. But for me seeing  him perform like that and seeing a great artist decline was something I did not want to see anymore. But that's me others love seeing him the way it is and obviously he has a crackerjack band. Whatever Brian wants to do obviously there are still people who want to see him and a lot of those. God bless you and Brian

I heard a live version of Don't Talk, I think on You Tube....it was ok, but it didn't go over too well from the sound of it. It was a little boring for them at that time.....I remember when the song ended, Carl announced "That's It"! I know they did I'm Waiting For the Day a couple of times, with Billy Hinsche on lead vocals. I have that recording somewhere.

From the setlist I saw Chicago only did like 8 songs, one of which was the new song opener. Can that be right? If I was a Chicago fan there to them perform, I'd be really ticked off!

I agree with Hey Jude
66  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carl and MSIA on: May 10, 2022, 04:01:58 AM
Carl was such a private person perhaps none more so than his relationship with Gina his second wife. There's so little we know about their relationship, it seems like every comment about Carl that someone's asked for comes from Annie his first wife. It would beonderful to know more about his relationship with Gina and just what they did to unwind and for fun but sadly we may never find that out
67  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why was Carl not replaced? on: May 10, 2022, 03:54:46 AM
There was reference made to Scott Matthews possibly joining the band in an issue of Endless Summer quarterly that focused on the recording of the keeping the summer Alive album up in Big Star. It never came to fruition but he was supposedly a very talented performer.
68  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carl's relationship with Brian before his death on: May 06, 2022, 03:43:59 AM
Regarding Carl's estate not releasing any of Carl's demos or solo recordings after his passing, it could well be that there just wasn't much, if anything worthwhile, to release. I love Carl's solo recordings and releases, but after BB85 he seemed to be more and more content with the meat and potatoes live shows as his primary source for artistic release. Maybe he just lost his creativity, or his desire to record, other than Beckley, Lamm, Wilson...which I thought contained 2 of his greatest songs, I wish for You, and Like A brother. But realistically, it's possible there just wasn't anything else to release, because he didn't record anything. Not sure we'll ever know, but it would be great to ask Justyn and Jonah these questions, without getting too deep into their privacy.

I've read in several places, that Brian watched the Super Bowl with Carl very close to his passing.

Dennis did try SOS initially, but almost everyone has said his vocals were wiped and no longer exist. Still. What a find that would be, at a time when Denny still had a really good voice the early 70s. Someone on YouTube mixed Carl's live concert vocal with the SOS studio backing.and  it was pretty cool to hear what SOS might have sounded with a Carl lead.
71  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Anybody went to a Beach Boys (Mike and Bruce) concert recently? Your opinion? on: April 27, 2022, 04:01:46 AM
Unfortunately I think Christian is awful as a lead vocalist. He has no range in his voice no power he's extremely Bland and Sounds nothing at all like Carl. I just don't think he's a good lead singer at all. On the contrary Brian Eichelberger is very very good
72  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 25th Anniversary Special 03/1987 on: April 27, 2022, 03:59:22 AM
I don't know the answer to the post 1987 question regarding the performances of heaven and Carls solo songs but I can not recall ever hearing either that one or any of the others after 1987 live and I've seen them a lot up to till Carl's passing
73  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 25th Anniversary Special 03/1987 on: April 26, 2022, 11:01:22 AM
I thought Carl singing Heaven and dedicating it to Dennis, was the high point of the show to me...but yes, other than that and Ray Charles, lots of down moments...especially the whole Piscopo thing.

The last time I saw the Beach Boys was Carl Wilson's last show back in 1997. I haven't seen them live since. I have followed them on YouTube though very closely including the most recent versions from 2022 and 2021. In my opinion they do not sound good. I think Christian loves vocals are bad. He sounds nothing like Carl Wilson to me, not that anyone could. But Mike and Bruce keep saying he does sound like Carl he sounds nothing like Carl to me, his vocals are weak on backgrounds and leads. Mike seems okay. Just totally unimpressed with the current version of The Beach Boys live show and have been for many years
