All Things Considered and considering especially their age Mike and Bruce don't sound too bad on lead vocals when they sing them. The background vocals aren't that good and whoevers singing Help Me Rhonda doesn't only just butcher the lyrics but sounds awful. Nobody sings Rhonda like Al Jardine.
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: David Crosby comments on Mike Love...Go David! on: October 22, 2020, 03:21:21 AM
After Mike is gone he'll go down in history as one half of the Brian Wilson Mike love partnership on some great songs that were written over the years. But even more so he'll go down in history as being one of the most disliked individuals in the history of music and also one of the biggest jerks.

I don't but I remember listening to a pretty good version of it from the 1991 Tour on YouTube. It was the Garden State Arts Center show back in August of 91 I believe if you want to listen to it

What I find most interesting, besides Hot Fun being included on SIP, is that Dancing in the Streets was in the BB set list for a short time, in I believe the Summer 1991...as part of a dance medley trio with DDD and DYWD. I always wondered why Dancin in the Streets was included as it had never been before. Thanks, now I know why.

I think TWOTS and I can Hear Music were pretty good, I think Caroline No with the added ending coda was really good...bt hat was about it.

I can hear music was a highlight for me along with Willy's warmth of the Sun. But I think the defining moment of this collection was the tag on Caroline no. In my opinion that was the best on the album
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Carl on Stars and Stripes on: August 22, 2020, 01:31:55 PM
Funny I always thought that with the exception of Carl most of the background vocals were non distinguishable amongst the boys themselves. Carl's voice is always very distinguishable on the songs he sings on.
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What actually happened to Dennis' aborted solo album in '72? on: August 12, 2020, 01:54:26 PM
Angry sea cruise doesn't sound like it was recorded by Dennis in 1971. Vocal seemed much too rough for what his voice sounded like at that time on sunflower. Sounds more like 76-77ish.
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New podcast with Carli Munoz on touring in the 70s, Dennis' Bambu & Jack Rieley on: August 03, 2020, 03:15:40 PM
Thank Mark I'm sure you will. Eddie Carter would be a great interview as well as Mike Kowalski. Another who was there since the sixties and left under not the best of circumstances thanks to Mike Love.  Sad

Just listened to the podcast over lunch and it was outstanding. Very much enjoyed Carlis stories about Dennis and making the album and also the stories about Dennis and Christine. Top Notch podcast. Let's see we've had Bobby Figueroa and Carly Munoz from the seventies touring band how about steady Eddie Carter? He'd be a great guy to interview since I think he's the original back up musician from the late 60s. Just a thought great job guys

I remember watching it when it first came out years ago. I thought it was great but haven't seen it in years

Great article about some underrated music especially from the early 70s. Tx!

Queen Mary 1981 the absolute nadir of their career up to that point. Just a dreadful performance

He does a great job with that one, go to You Tube and search out Cool and Gone, great CD.....It's My Fault is a great opener.
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Jeff Foskett on: June 20, 2020, 04:58:35 AM
If you can get a copy of some of Jeffs CDs you'll see that he did much more than just falsetto which is what many of the fans have a problem with. Me I don't. And his non falsetto voice on his solo CDs is absolutely fantastic. As well as his falsetto voice in my honest opinion
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Jeff Foskett on: June 19, 2020, 03:37:03 AM
I have all of Jet's solo CDs and they are all wonderful. His voice was golden. Such a shame to see this happen.

I love Palisades Park! That was alot of fum, going there too. I remember when I saw them do PP live at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City back in 1976 on the 15 Big Ones tour....it rocked live!
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys as part of a wedding on: May 17, 2020, 04:08:03 AM
Congratulations! 27 years ago, I sang Surfer Song to my wife, backed by our wedding band. Not the greatest performance ever, but it brought the house down, and our band was super cool about it...they asked me to sing it to her and front the band. Hope your band is as cool....you should ask if you don't have the greatest vocal chops.

So many great covers to choose from they've done a ton. If I exclude Sloop John B I probably have to go with I can hear music followed closely by then I kissed her. While they've had some clunker cover versions too they've had some magnificent ones as well
