1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Fake Brian Wilson Twitter Account? on: May 26, 2020, 07:50:38 PM
Thanks everyone. I went & read the mentioned post on Brian's message board & it does appear to be some sort of scam making the rounds. As much as I would like to bombard the guy with BB questions just to be annoying, I decided to treat it like I would an unsolicited email scheme, & not reply.
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Fake Brian Wilson Twitter Account? on: May 26, 2020, 03:41:15 PM
I don't know if this deserves its own topic, but it just happened to me today & I wondered if anyone else had this happen.

I received a direct message from what I assume is a fake Brian Wilson account @livbrianwilson saying "Hello, (my first name) how are you doing?" I do follow Brian's real account, @BrianWilsonLive, so for just a second, I thought maybe it was real. Anyway, when I looked at the account, it started this month & says he is Brian Wilson & wants to interact personally with his fans. (Which if it were really him, would be cool!)
So... I haven't responded yet...

1. Anyone else get this?
2. Should I respond or ignore?
3. If I respond, should I ask fake Brian 3 questions about his career to "verify" his authenticity (Monty Python Holy Grail style), lol?
4. If so, ideas for questions are requested (just for fun)!  Or alternatively, you can ask fake Brian all the questions you've been wondering about.

If anyone here thinks there's a chance that real Brian has recently started a second Twitter account, where he has no tweets, but direct messages fans, let me know! As much as I would like to irritate the imposter, I do not want to cause our Brian any harm.
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SOngs that the Beach Boys covered on: May 18, 2020, 09:56:56 PM
Two of my favorites are Devoted To You & There's No Other Like My Baby.

I also recently heard an old track of Brian singing You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' on YouTube, which was new to me, but I don't think it ended up being used. It was pretty raw, which I didn't mind, kind of sounded like the demo version of Mona to me, which I adore. But for those expecting something that sounded like the Beach Boys sing the Righteous Brothers, I guess it would have been surprising. To me it seemed like it could have gone on the Love You album. Anybody know any more about this? Just curious. You guys know everything.

I also (for some reason yet to be determined) love their version of Da Doo Ron Ron. BTW, I had no idea that so many artists covered Da Doo Ron Ron. You could really kill some time on YouTube, listening to all of them, crazy! Even the young Bee Gees had one, The Carpenters, not to mention Alyssa Milano... Who knew? Until a few days ago, I only had heard The Crystals, Beach Boys, & Shaun Cassidy. (I'm so unenlightened...)

Congrats!
Unfortunately I had no Beach Boys music at my wedding, but someday I'm definitely going to pre-plan my Beach Boys funeral set list, so I can go out with a bang!

Ahem, back to wedding song ideas...

Devoted To You
There's No Other Like My Baby

And if your bride has a sense of humor, may I suggest...

Monkey's Uncle
"A bride, a groom, a chimpanzee!"
(Great to get everybody dancing, who could resist?! Also would make a funny photo opp, if you have an acceptable plush monkey available.)

Best wishes for your wedding day & your joint adventure in life!
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: May 08, 2020, 10:57:40 AM
Well, I finally finished making my way through all 272 (at this point) pages of this insignificant thread, which was a somewhat significant task (at least to me). Thank you to all the questioners, answerers, & arguers, who have contributed through the years. I'm a Beach Boys neophyte for sure, so the history, whether accurate, sourced, or speculative, all adds color to the music that I love, & learn more about each day. Most significant of all, is that I now have the never to be finished snippet of Daddy Dear, (that may or may not have been sung by Brian, or Al, or perhaps an amalgam of the two?) permanently playing in my brain, as part of the never-ending,  ever- evolving BB medley that has apparently now become the internal soundtrack of my life. It's getting crowded up in there & I think I need a new secretary - the way that crazy chick organizes song synapses is maddening. Why oh why would the medley go from Kiss Me Baby, to Surf's Up, to Monkey's Uncle, to now Daddy Dear?! I guess she must be tired of the Sounds Of Summer CD, I often default to in the car. Calm down crazy girl, That's Why God Made The Radio!

Thanks Rocker! Had not seen this, which is why I love this place! Off to listen now...

Just listened, very nice! Thanks!

I thought it was interesting that they did Dance, Dance, Dance & Do You Wanna Dance on this one, which was not on the 2CD Live set that I have. Was there more than one version of the concert released, extended or something? Or did they change the set list often? (I defer to you experts for proper education, beyond what I have read. I am always amazed at how many of you have encyclopedic knowledge of every concert, recording, etc., So cool!) Anyway, Do You Wanna Dance caught my ear, because it's never really been my favorite song, but Brian was so strong on this one here, it sounded reminiscent of his younger voice to me.

I also listen to the reunion tour CD quite a bit, especially in the car.  My 11 yr old always comments that it sounds different & notices when they're singing in a different key than the original, like on Sounds Of Summer. I always say, "That's Grandpa Brian or Grandpa Mike, etc. singing now." Then I have to point out Young Brian, Carl etc. Now, whenever she's hears any nasal voice in any BB song, she says, "Is that Mike?" (I did not teach her that, she recognized it herself, after hearing Mike exaggerate the "When" in Be True To Your School, in concert.) I enjoy it, such as it is. Since I wasn't there, I have nothing to compare it to. I also watch all the concert DVDs I can find. I can at least pretend I was there, although I've had to stop dancing around the living room, as it REALLY upsets the dog. Apparently, my dance moves are so alarming, that they disrupt the natural order of things, causing her great distress. Sigh, at least she doesn't mind my singing.

Did anyone make it through the end? And was there a surprise? I tried, but finally gave up at 1:40 am CT, when there seemed to be no end in sight. I heard Rob's song, nice. David Marks, nice. I heard the moderator hint about Wilson Philipps coming up, & waited through several more performances, but my eyes wouldn't stay open, despite my determination, fueled by waning hope.

Ah yes, Uncle Jesse, Aunt Becky... who would have guessed where life would lead them?

Lol, on comments section. My friend, who is 11 years older than I am (& therefore 11 years closer in age to the BBs themselves), thought Stamos was a member as well, based solely on the Full House episode she watched in the 80s. I can't fault her too much. Until 2 years ago, when I became obsessed & fell down the rabbit hole, I knew nothing of them individually either. Just some guys in striped shirts, before my time, singing cool harmonies. Now I say, sacrilege! Head hung in shame... humming a medley of Kiss Me Baby, Surf's Up, Caroline, No & Monkey's Uncle.

I too am holding out a glimmer of hope for a surprise. Stamos is fine, but I'd venture a guess that his appearing with the BB is no longer a surprise to anyone.

Don Randi just played a keyboard medley that included BB songs & a Glen Campbell song. Nice to see him.

Thanks for the YouTube link. I can see it's him now, on my tablet. Watching multiple windows popping in & out to the beat of GV on my cell phone was a bit disconcerting. Fun to see, although I will always miss Brian, Al, & Dave. I wish I had known about 2012, during the reunion tour. I feel like I missed out.

Was Bruce there? In one of the small windows on the left in the ball cap? The windows on my phone were tiny, so it was hard to tell. At first I thought it could be him, then I decided maybe not. Now I'm not sure. You'd think after hours of watching BB footage I'd recognize Bruce for heaven's sakes!

Marilyn, Ginger, Rob & a pianist I didn't recognize (sorry) just sang California Feelin'.
