Christopher Cross opened for and joined Mike and Bruce on stage for their New Zealand tour a few years back.  A talented performer and a first class gentleman. I was present when after the last show Christopher sought out Mike and thanked him most graciously for having him on tour. Mike and Bruce went of their way to ensure Christopher was included in everything.

I reckon if Brian said "hey, you know Mike I have never been to Peru.  You mind if I tag along too? Those Peruvians aren't going to believe how great we sound for a couple of 70 year olds" Mike wouldn't say no.

I'm just looking forward to seeing Mike in one of hand-woven Peruvian hat things with earflaps.

Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy what we have (which is far more than any of us could have dreamt of a year ago).

Marilyn.

I bet if Brian booked some solo dates none of you would be complaining. hypocrites.

+1 again.

We're all good thanks Tony and I trust you are too.

That sounds like an excellent plan and who knows who might also be able to be persuaded to pop in for a few beers.

How's transport from the CBD to the concert venue? Any likely drama?

Gold for Sydney and Melbourne here.

Tony, I respectfully suggest a pre-show get together as when Brian was last in town.  Any chance my friend?

More of a guilty pleasure but I love the fade on "Winds of Change".

Oh boy... a million thanks for the wonderful videos. I'm lost for words.
84  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UK !!! on: May 29, 2012, 12:25:00 PM
Thanks -

I guess now we may entertain hopes that there'll be more Euro dates TBA. Since Hong Kong is Aug 25, and this one's a month later, there's space to be filled...

I'd be thinking another hemisphere instead (or in addition to) post Hong Kong.
85  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UK Tour Dates.........When? on: May 16, 2012, 09:33:27 PM
Doubting Capitol Kiwi surfer?

Are you related to a certain P Cohen by any chance? Grin

Keep in mind they will be in Japan, Singapore (Hong Kong TBA?). Sure makes $ense to go a few extra hours south to Australia. The dollar is worth more than the $US at the moment. Why wouldn't they want a slice of that action?

I'm not doubting for a moment that they will hit Aussie and perhaps Kiwi shores late August.  My point was that a media report based on a press release is not definitive.
86  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: UK Tour Dates.........When? on: May 16, 2012, 03:34:55 AM
It said more tour dates would be announced for Europe.

More were. (The Spanish shows.)

I wouldn't expect anything else at this point.
I appreciate that they announced the Spanish shows, it actually said more European territories would be announced so I was hoping the UK would be one of them. Also I'm sure the fans in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore are as eager as we are to hear something as they were mentioned too.

Singapore, August 22nd.

REALLY!!   I'm in Fremantle West Australia so that is a 3 hour (very cheap) flight away!!   I'm there .

Why? Australia tour has been announced with dates to follow soon. Perth could be on the cards.

I’m not sure that article constitutes a tour announcement being based solely on the Capitol Records press release of some 3 weeks ago.

Okay, given that there's still no word on any Australian dates...  Anyone from down here planning on heading over to one of the Japan shows?  I'm thinking about it, but it'll be my first time in the country, and I could use a bit of a support group!

Cheers,
Jon Blum

Hey, it's something I have thought about. What's an 11 hour flight huh.

If I do it would be great to catch up with any other visiting or Japanese fans.

ACDC aren't American.
They are from Australia....Like Crowded House, Russel Crowe and Phar lap............ Wink

What?Huh  I'll give you ACDC notwithstanding that Phil Rudd lives a couple of miles from me.
89  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who would you like to see open for the Beach Boys on tour? on: February 12, 2012, 12:22:43 AM
Dean Torrence and the Legendary masked sufers, basically doing Jan And Dean songs... Cool Guy

Hey, I'll second that. Otherwise The Explorers Club. Sort of a changing of the guard type thing.
90  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian and Al at the mixing board - new pic on: February 05, 2012, 11:43:40 AM
Another picture from the studio, with Justyn and Jonah Wilson (Carl's sons, right?). Brian looks happy!

Awesome picture.  Where Justin and Jonah just there to hang out with the family or could they be there to oversee the use of old tracks from Carl?

The coolest pic so far for 2012.

Smart move too all round as sometime in the next decade or so new 'franchise' agreements will have to be considerd.  Now, where's Matt?

"Brian Wilson is the Beach Boys. We're just his f**kers.  He's everything—we're f**ked".
92  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Anyone know anything about these rarities? on: May 01, 2011, 03:33:02 AM
There have been a few copies of the green Hawthorne Hotshots EP sold on eBay the past few years, usually for around $40 odd.

I often wondered what happened to DB. I remember that not so long after his 'visit' he sold a fair chunk of his collection via a mailing list. From memory his sale included the notation that he couldn't bring himself to sell The Honeys for more than a few dollars. Obviously a tad bitter at the time.
93  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Any singers you can think of that sound like The Beach Boys? on: April 20, 2011, 02:56:30 AM
Already mentioned several times but the Explorers Club for me.  Love 'em to pieces.

It's fun to see how many BB songs you can identify in each song of theirs. There's even a Rio Grande moment and another track that could slip right onto Wild Honey and only Brian would know for sure.
94  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If you could interview each BB about 1 album, what would it be? on: December 05, 2010, 01:03:06 AM
All members - Sunflower.
95  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Cottonfields / Cotton Fields - BW and AJ version on: December 05, 2010, 01:00:36 AM
Both versions were released in New Zealand with Brian's being one of the most difficult to find of all New Zealand Beach Boys related releases.

More difficult than Sound of Free?

I suspect so, and that's saying something.

More sobering than stunning.

All the names bar the 5 early 60s members mentioned should not be involved. Too complicated.

As I have said before, Brian's people have the upper hand here and will call the shots if he is interested. If so I would say one gig for Mike, Bruce, Al and David with the BW band will be as good as it will get.

If that's the case then I cannot see it happening.  Quite rightly too.

I give up. I was trying to make the pic larger but it's too late at night.

Bgas has a nice photo.

I'll try that again.

Don't forget Stateside was then owned by EMI and the Reprise deal didn't kick in for a few more years outside the US (or perhaps North America).

In other words - it beats me.

Okay those Stateside singles.
