Al should be doing this, not Mike.

Brian did seem to be getting crazier and more aggressive in 77.  And yes Mike Love was the antagonist.

I also know that VDP said that The Beatles came to LA and listened to SMiLE tapes, and that was a load of crap, too. You're point?

Your reference to Van Dyke's mistake is exactly my point.  Who cares about some random factoid involving the Beatles that was incorrectly recalled 50 years later.  It matters not.  It's a weak attempt at discrediting Van Dyke's overall contribution.

The same thing goes with Rocky.  No matter what you think of him, he was an insider.  If you want to disprove one of his claims (like the "surfer stomp"), then you will need to provide something solid, like an eyewitness.

Smiley Smiley So it's not only mike-y that your in love with "doe boy" ask Stan how many splinters he picked out of his A*ss... (you two have that thing in common)  He never started a single game... for a 1st round pick... that is the definition of a "BUST"! Smiley Smiley  I did over 30 National Commercials... and then I won "The International Camel Man" job!  I made over TWO MILLION DOLLARS in My MODELING CAREER ... Stan signed ONE contract for a half mil... and they hated paying him it for picking splinters and smoking. LOL Smokin

And yet, you still had to stoop to being a male prostitute? That ain't good, Rock.

I'm confused. Are people genuinely taken with this guy, or is this sort of like everyone is joking around, and Rocky Raccoon isn't in on the joke? Reminds me of the Daro situation a bit. A dirtbag who shows up and wants to tell his story, and a lot of it seems to be BS, or half-truths. And no amount of "quotation marks" and  Smiley Smiley LOL LOL can turn a turd into a diamond.

Are you in denial or something?  You are calling a close friend of Brian's a dirtbag?  Who spews half-truths and BS?  You do know that Van Dyke backed up what Lorren said...right?

No matter what you think of Mr. P., it's going to take more than mockery to prove him wrong.

They don't seem to want to tour though. They seem to just do the odd concert for charity.
Bit of a shame really. I guess that most of them have good day jobs and are uninterested in doing concerts.

More like they can't charge for tickets or else they would.

Exactly.  Which lyrics would have improved Mike's place in history?  By the time Mike was attempting anything that would have appealed to the hipsters and artsy crowd he was playing catch up, he had already missed the boat.  Those early songs, as much as I love them, including many of the lyrics, aren't getting anyone into the poetry HOF, including Brian.

What?  You mean "teenage gambler...sittin in his rambler" didn't blow you away?
58  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Awesome New Mike Love Article!! on: February 13, 2016, 09:02:24 AM
I can see how is he mad.  Yes he jumped on a gravy train and has made bank for doing so.  He didn't get writing credits<which probably didn't seem to matter as much in 1965 when the band was huge.  I am sure he feels and some what rightly so that he has carried the burden of the music since 64<through touring> and now he is looked at as a pariah.<no matter how much confidence you have it has to beat on you>  I would guess he feels that Brian fcked as well as the music with the formula by leaving the touring band then screwing up his voice. >not to mention the drugs which may have had some ,and in his opinion most of the reason Brian dropped out of sight>
I do want to say I have never been accused as being a Mike Love apologist my wife on numerous times had tried to get me to go see his band.

Stick to your guns and don't bother as you'll come away with a hollow feeling seeing an angry old man up there pretending to be something he isn't.

I would go.  I saw them last year at Jones Beach and even though I'm not a big Mike supporter, I thought he was great.  His voice is a lot stronger than you think and the music is excellent.  Just make sure Stamos is not around.

Mike the house flipper.  How fitting.

By the way I have eaten Quinoa enough times.  It times like shat.

Dropping the sarcasm for a minute...Mike seems like an ok guy, but he's been a slave to his own ego and it's ruined his life.  He would have been better off working a regular job.

Kudos to him for admitting that at least two of his wives dumped him.

I don't like this version but Rocky does a good job on lead vocal.

61  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Don Henley/Mike Love on: January 26, 2016, 10:14:09 PM
I don't see how you can compare the two at all.  If anything, I would compare Don Henley to Brian Wilson, not Mike  Love.  Don Henley had great success with the Eagles and also as a solo performer.  He can play multiple instruments, has a literature degree and spouts out lyrics like nobody's business (he's also got a surly personality).  Mike Love is a ditty writer who was given parts to sing by Brian.  It's a no-contest.

Illegals don't come here for hand outs, they come here because Americans offer them jobs.  The GOP is very ignorant.  It's their government-hating corporations that have caused the problem.  Illegals won't go back until we stop giving them jobs.

Amazing how everybody around here is so anxious to slam Usher.  I guess you all wrote hit songs with Brian too...right?

Usher never claimed to be a singer so give the insults a rest, he sang when necessary but his job was to write lyrics and produce, he even said so himself in the book.
64  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Jeff Foskett speaks about leaving Brian's band and joining Mike's band on: September 23, 2014, 07:41:16 PM

I don't know why the continued hate for Mike's branding continues.  Brian/Melinda gave the license to Mike, he didn't steal it.

BRI owns the name and the brand, one vote could not "give" anything without a board vote. The BRI umbrella company interest through the voting board basically licensed the franchise that included the name and some specific operating rules and standards to Mike, and he pays for using and advertising with that franchise name just as McDonald's owners pay corporate to be in that franchise...with strict conditions and standards. If they're not met, the agreement can be terminated and the franchise stripped. Simple as that.

So wherever the notion came from suggesting that Brian or any one entity other than the BRI board ever "gave" the license away, it's incorrect.

If you go watch the Brian/Melinda/Larry King interview, Melinda clearly says "they decided" (meaning her and Brian) to give the brand name to Mike.  Whether Brian holds the swing vote or by some other means, they made it very clear they were the reason Mike got it, and they explained the reasons for such.

I don't think Jeff is lying.  Would you rather play 10 shows a year with 74? year-old Brian and act as his caregiver, or would you rather play 100 shows a year and have a great time doing it.  Do you want to be a rock star or a nurse?

I don't know why the continued hate for Mike's branding continues.  Brian/Melinda gave the license to Mike, he didn't steal it.
66  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feeling confused...who's the hero and who's the villain? on: August 20, 2014, 07:18:10 PM
If you wanted to define a villain as somebody who was willing to hurt others in order to benefit themselves, then Murry would be the only candidate.

67  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your Second Favorite Band Next to the Beachboys on: August 19, 2014, 03:27:38 PM
The Who were always my favorite, or I might say Townshend as I think he is the greatest songwriter.

I like George Harrison stuff too.
68  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which two longtime members have had the worst relationship? on: August 12, 2014, 07:25:56 PM
1.  Jack Reiley vs Bruce.
2.  Mike vs. VDP
3.  Mike vs Al
4.  David vs. Murray

I use these as examples because they all resulted in "ejections".

And just to address the subject, Mike has said that he and Dennis got along fine when Dennis was not shite-faced.
69  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike, Bruce and Dave @ Jones Beach - July 5th on: July 05, 2014, 09:02:16 PM
Mike sounded great.
My favorite songs were Pisces Brothers and Ballad of Ole Besty (Scott on lead).
Cowsill rules on drums but his vocal on Rhonda seems misplaced.
Too much Stamos pimping.
Wendy is apparently tough to play live.
Good concert not worth the 70 clams though.
70  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al joining Mike and Bruce for Jones Beach show on: June 24, 2014, 10:04:02 PM
From what I remember, Al has stated publicly many times that he doesn't see how any one person (Mike) can claim to own the beach boys name and tour as "the beach boys".  The wedge this creates will never allow them to truly reconcile.
71  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al joining Mike and Bruce for Jones Beach show on: May 08, 2014, 05:46:33 PM
I missed the 2012 tour but I think I'm getting tix for this one.
72  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Knebworth 1980 on: May 04, 2014, 08:05:05 AM
The Knebworth performance of "Surfer Girl" is interesting. Dennis comes to the front of the stage and Mike clearly has no interest interacting with him. At the end of the song, Carl seems to be heading Mike's way for a word but is stopped by Dennis. Then you see Al and Dennis shaking hands while taking their bows. What was going on with Carl and Mike? Was Carl angry?

I've watched this part many times, and my theory is that Carl (who was the last person to start trouble) was trying to get between Dennis and Mike to cut off any conflict between the two.  It looked like Dennis was trying to instigate Mike and he was probably hammered too.
73  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Do you think the early material ('62-'65) is better than Smile? on: April 11, 2014, 07:36:14 PM
I don't see how you can compare Smile to anything pre-Smile because nobody knows what Smile really is/was.  Brian himself said it was experimental music...background music.  The lyrics were mysterious and artsy-fartsy.  I really never got what was so smiling about Smile anyway, since when does women getting gunned down by bullets an American Indians getting wiped out amount to smiling?   Weird.  I mean don't get me wrong, I own Smile and spent a lot of time listening to it...but at best...I find it confusing.  The melody and harmony are often a mystery to find.

I'm more likely to listen to something from Love You, or California Saga, or something with Brian's trademark soaring harmonies.  Plymouth Rock can keep rolling over, but I probably won't get it.

The gray rug on the chest is nasty, he should of shaved that.

He also invented a new word, "naturalness".

And what's he doing taking a toddler on a horse?  Not smart.

Interesting.  Seems to be a lot of weird stuff going on right now.  Scott Totten/John Cowsil were seen recording with the Fendertones, and now this.
