L.A. except the last awful cut.
Man, since reading this thread, I can't believe how many mention a disliking for Shortenin Bread, but no mention of hate for Here Comes the Night. I enjoy the whole album, I look at the Shortenin Bread ending as a jam after all those slow and/or sad songs...much like the ending to the Friends album with the Transendental Meditation studio band jam.

Was Spirit of America ever played live? I feel like Brian played it at a live show or Mike and Bruce have played it but I can't remember.

This may sound odd to some of you, but if you haven't sat back and truly listened to the LDC album, songs in order as on the lp from start to finish, you might be in for a treat.  This lp stands in terms of content, theme, melody, and harmony.  It has flow and I don't hear filler.
I totally agree!
The a album gets grief because of songs previously released on earlier albums (LDC, SD, and 409), but speaking only in terms of flow and lack of filler, this album is a pure gem! Love the LP version of Be True, the vocals on Betsy, Custom Machine, No Go, and Car Crazy are fab! So what if Car Crazy Cutie is a re-write of Pamela Jean and Cherry Coup is a rewrite of Land Ahoy. Just take the LP as is and it's a GAS! No pun intended.

What was Brian's "people's" complaints during the Paul Simon tour? Very curious as that was my first show.

www.surfermoon.com has always been my source for finding out who says what or what noise is made at what time of the song in the site's song archive, it's really quite an amazing source really.

It's been one of my favorite sites since becoming a beach boys fan, way back when it was Cabinessence.com

The song that Eric Carmen released on his Essential Eric Carmen called Brand New Year (the song was on 45 for RSD as well) has credits for Darien S And Nick Walusko and I want to say Jeff Foskett was involved one some way too, but I'm not sure.
My question is- was Brian involved in this recording? I coulda sworn I saw a video of them working on it, maybe it was just Eric and some of the Wondermints or others in Brian's band, it was late last year when I saw the video I think.

Here's a link to the song (not that particular video I mentioned):

I had found this later: http://www.ioffer.com/i/dennis-wilson-the-real-beach-boy-documentary-dvd-rare-158106877
and asked him if it was this that he owned and he said yes. Looks like a boot to me.

Quick Question, did the 2008 documentary Dennis Wilson: The Real Beach Boy ever come out on DVD? There's a guy on Facebook insisting he bought it on DVD. But as far as I knew, it was only on tv and not manufactured for home entertainment. If it is on DVD, why haven't I heard anyone talking about it and where can I get a copy?

Just reading some classifieds from a Dec 95 ESQ, someone was looking for a vinyl release of the Good Vibrations boxset....does a vinyl release exist?

Also, they mentioned an Australian LP of Still Crusin' with the Spanish version of Kokomo, does that LP exist as well?

I was reading an issue of Endless Summer Quarterly from June of 1995 and part of the news and updates went on to say that Tom Petty had Diamond Head in his setlist "recently". Anyone know if there's a recording of this "out there"? I'm not a big Tom Petty fan, so I wouldn't know. Interesting to note though.

Yes, Tom Petty had "Diamond Head" in his setlist - a cover of a song by The Ventures !!
Oh, not the instrumental from Friends eh? They left that detail out.
No wonder I kept hearing a different song when I'd look it up on YT

Not really a question but I wanted to mention that I FINALLY heard Marilyn's vocals on Busy Doin Nothin, flipping brilliant the way it was mixed together with Brian's vocals. Am I right in saying that she's on the chorus, like the "take all the time you need..." part? And I was thinking only on the last 2 choruses? I might not have heard it all...I had to have headphones and close my eyes to work it out.

Dear All.

This is my first comment and I don't know all the ins and outs of the forum so I hope this doesn't seem too dumb.

Does anybody else think that 'He Gives Speeches' is a dropped instert from Wonderful (i.e. between 'bumped into her W' and 'All fall down')?

It would help both make more sense lyrically. It's what I've got on my version. Admittedly it does need a bit of speed changing, but both W and HGS seem to need that anyway. It might also help to make sense of that odd bit in the middle of Smiley's W.

Ned
That's a great observation, I think I've heard a fan mix put that in the middle of Wonderful...or did they use the outtake of Mike vocals repeating "mama mama mama mama mama mama" and Brian humming over it? I can't remember, I'm sure I've heard both used.

"All Of My Love" is the intro to a DW suite that goes by the handle of "Ecology". Recorded fall 1970. There is a DW boot out there claiming to be "Ecology", but it isn't (I've heard the original). Rather it's a fan edit of sundry easily available DW fragments.
What are the titles of these edits?

So none of the Disney album was ever played live? That surprises me, I would at least expect You've Got a Friend in Me and Yo Ho Yo Ho/The Pirates Life for Me to have been played once or so.

What songs from Brian's Gershwin and Disney albums were performed live by him and his band?

I just listened to Endless Harmony on headphones.  I want Bruce Johnston to apologize.
The whole soundtrack or just the song Endless Harmony?

OK, please forgive me if this has already been done, and I just can't find it (and if so, please link me)--I'm trying to sort out what's worth getting of Dennis' material that isn't on MIC, the POB reissue, Hawthorne CA, and any other major releases.

I keep hearing about the Quad Symphony edit, which sounds really intriguing, but damned if I can find it.

There are also all these early/alternate Bambu's--is there anything worth hearing on these, or did the POB reissue render them useless?

Is there somewhere a "Sound of Free" that doesn't have all that high-end distortion? (I still hear it on MIC...)

What else is there that's uncollected?

Thanks for your help!

-onkster
Concerning the "Bamboo" early boots, I think it's only interesting to the obsessive fan....since they're boots, the sound quality is not as good, and some of the songs, such as All Alone or Wild Situation may be early versions/mixes. I'm fairly confident All Alone has an early version unreleased but is easy to find...the Wild Situation version, I'm not as sure about if it's different but I do know there's a bootleg that has the track only (with backing vocals) of Wild Situation.
Also, the first boot I had of Pacific Ocean Blue had 5 interesting bonus tracks:
- Early version of River Song (not sure on the date)
- backing track to Pacific Ocean Blues (not so good quality)
- backing track to Time
- and I think the backing tracks to End of Show and Fairwell My Friend. Or it could be the track to Rainbows, I can't remember, haven't listened to it in a long time. I got it way back 2006 from a generous friend.

Does anyone have the Eastern Airlines commercial that features a rerecorded "This Whole World?" I've been trying to find this track for ages and any help will be appreciated.
Re-recorded by the BB or another artist?

Any word about this doc? Haven't seen many reviews of it and looking at the last post, someone still hasn't gotten it yet, and that was in 2011. Assuming they received the DVD, it must have not made a huge impact or else they'd rush to the topic and give a review. I'd love to hear what the documentary explores.

Aren't they re-releasing this album soon?

I bought those two Carl cd's in Tokyo when they were first released. Haven't played them much, but they are nice to have, along with Like a Brother. In my case, I'd prefer a Carl solo concert cd with the Myrna track slapped on as a bonus.
Those 2 Carl CDs, Youngblood and what else?

Is there available an acapella version of the disco HCTN? There's the instrumental one and I actually tried to make one myself, but my skills are pretty poor so that didn't quite work out... The backing vocals are just so awesome. Would be cool to make own mix out of them.
If only I had the technology to make mixes such as this....I would definately take each album and do a stack-o-vocals and and stack-o-tracks...that'd be real interesting. Has anyone done this?
