Do the 1980 overdubs for Can't Wait Too Long circulate in any form?
I've always wondered that too! I think Andrew knows the answer (I believe he's replied to a similar post of mine), but I don't think the answer is what we wanna hear...but I can't remember.

Not exactly a question, but... I was driving to work, my music shuffling away, and it so happened that Smiley Windchimes was followed immediately by Full Sail. It was weird, with the wind chime tones transitioning to ship's bells and the music suddenly changing from brilliant to soulless.

And I nearly wept.

Does that happen to you?
Awww, are you saying Full Sail is soulless? I always liked Full Sail, one of the more underrated tunes from LA and great vocals.

I've often wondered this when listening to live recordings, when the band mentions the Surf's Up album and a huge crowd response sounds, do they really know the 1971 Surf's Up album and are cheering for it or are they assuming it's an early Beach Boys album since the word "surf" is in the title and they think it's gonna be Surfin USA or Catch a Wave or something? I know the Surfs Up album did do fairly well, but I've just often wondered that.

Example, the response Carl gets when he announces the song he's singing is from Surf's Up- http://youtu.be/Mdg2MEpvqXY

The audiences at the small clubs that Carl played at during his solo tour was made up of die hard fans.  I'm guessing, at least in the case of this tour, the audience knew the Surf's Up album quite well.  They even knew Billy Hinsche, as you can hear them yelling out Billy's name BEFORE Carl introduces him at this particular show & at the Bottom Line show that took place around the same time.
That's cool, I didn't know that about the audience, I don't know much about Carl's solo career.
Another example I thought about was the live version of Long Promised Road from the early 70s on the Endless Harmony soundtrack, there's a big cheer when Dennis introduces the song and mentioned Surf's Up....and perhaps since the album was fairly new, the audience was familiar with the album....I don't know, I wasn't around unfortunately.

What kinda Beach Boys clothes/gear and the like would be worth more than 50$?

Not including clothing with autographs nor clothes that were worn by the actual beach boys.

Hi Surfer-

Which songs from the Surfin' Safari disc do you favor the most? I like the title cut of course, along with "409" and "Moon Dawg". The guys sound like a true surf band on that cut, don't you think?  "Cuckoo Clock" I can take or leave.

My songs from the Surfin Safari is the main song Surfin Safari and Moon Dawg and Surfin!  You people want video's you got it sometime tomorrow night i am making first Beach Boys Video of me doing some Air Drumming to some Beach Boys songs!  Enjoy Surf's Up

I'm surprised there's no post about I Just Wasn't Made for these Times being on season 5, I myself just saw the clip last week, it was amazing! They use it in an LSD experiment....I've never seen the show before, but I loved the clip: http://youtu.be/GpWlKCfSPcU

I'm sorry if this is a repeat post but I tried looking under Mad Men IJWMFTT or Mad Men I just wasn't made for these times but all I saw were results that had the letters mad and men within other words, no Mad Men posts except this one.

163  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pet Sounds at my local record store on: May 18, 2014, 05:54:25 PM
One time I was I Landlocked, one of three record shops here in Bloomington...they were playing Wild Honey (side 2), i went up to the cashier (who's in charge of picking albums of course) and asked what release it was (re-release, original, foreign release, etc); it was without the album cover and I could tell it was the rerelease that had 20/20 with it from the mid 70s.
Another day, I pop in and Lady Lynda is playing! I froze with excitement, waited to see if it was the Light Album or something else and then Full Sail came on. Went up and talked to the cashier, it was the same thing....when it got to the end of side 1, I asked if he was gonna play side 2 and he said yeah, I told him he was gonna toture everyone but me.

About Pet Sounds, I think a lot of people my age (29) and a little younger and a older than I, have a notion that, from hearing others talk about Pet Sounds, it's become such a legendary album that a lot of folks just hear about it and it just gets a cult status, whether they own it or not.

If none of this makes sense, it's because I've just gotten sick in the past 24 hours and I'm a little out of it...so I'd my other posts in the past days haven't made much sense, that's why...plus I keep dosing off in the middle of typing.

I don't have the MIC box, is this alt version the one from the Hawthorne CA 2-cd set? And is it different from the Warmth of the Sun CD? I don't have that cd either, so I wasn't sure.
166  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Matt Jardine Album! on: May 18, 2014, 12:34:50 PM
Is Matt playing Foskett's former role (i.e. recording a rough sketch of the vocal arrangements)? Is Foskett still a part of Brian's recording team?

Let's hope not...

I'm sure he still is though. I have nothing against Jeff, and he definitely helps Brian out in the live situation. But studio wise, he annoys me.
Why does he annoy you in the studio?

In my humble opinion, as an early listener coming into the Beach Boys fandom with only greatest hits known of their music and I had only heard GV and Heroes and Villains (Smiley Smile version) from those greatest hits, so I obviously didn't know anything about Smile. So after my first viewing of the BB: An American family, I found out so much about the Beach Boys that I never knew, and was intrigued about this "Pet Sounds" and "SMiLE"...so with only one song to go on from the TV movie (not including GV), the "Geronimo Leaps and Bounds over the Glory of the Dustbowl" tune, I wanted to hear more, something exactly like it. Little did I know that these scenes were exaggerated and weren't exactly what happened.
But anyways, after the buying of the GV box set a year later, I heard Love to Say Dada and could totally hear parts of "Geronimo"....this was Smile to me! It sounded like those wild and crazy songs I'd read about for a couple of years.
169  Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: Orange Crate Art (BW/VDP solo) on: May 18, 2014, 12:00:28 PM
Has anyone heard Love is Here to Stay and Rhapsody in Blue from these sessions? Wonder if they're anything like Brian's versions over 10 years later...I wonder how they went about recording Rhapsody, like if they did wordless vocals for it.

I'll come forth and admit that don't know where it originated from but I've never referenced or used any of those "keep calm..." pictures, logos, or anything on Facebook or anything.

Just looking at March/April 96 issue of ESQ, in the news and reviews section, they were talking about the completion of Stars and Stripes Vol 1 and who was singing on what tune, there's a couple of artists/songs mentioned that I was wondering if they were actually recorded and left on the shelf or this was just a proposed list?
Steve Earle- Shutdown
Merle Haggard- California Saga: California
Billy Ray Cyrus- Dance, Dance, Dance
Wendy Wilson- In My Room (which Tammy Wynette also recorded, I believe)
172  Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smile Reference Threads / Re: The Definitive Vocal Credits Thread... on: May 14, 2014, 10:32:58 PM
I have a request, can we do a vocal inventory on the Beach Boys' solo albums? I think it'd be really interesting to see who sang what on POB and Bambu. But I'd also like to see what songs Carl sang backing vocals on for Mike's unreleased albums.
So let's propose a list of albums (solo) that we can help ID the (really noticeable) backing vocalists....the leads should be obvious as to who's solo album it is  Wink

Lady/Sound of Free
Goin Public
POB
Bambu
Celebration's albums- Almost Summer, Celebration, Disco Celebration
First love
Country love
Looking back with love
Unleash the love
Carl Wilson
Youngblood
All of Brian's solo albums
Al Family and friends live in LV
Postcard from CA

Did I forget anything?

I'm looking forward to this!!

No takers?
Perhaps I'll throw some credits out there if anyone is interested.
I can start doing research within my archives, notes, and other goodies.
I just don't know if I know any songs that'll make up an album, or just a few random songs from POB and a couple from looking back with Love, and some from Postcard from CA.

Why do Jeffrey Foskett and Bri Wilson hate each other now? He's not appearing on his album. Is it because he did not go to the Ella Awards?

Are Jeff Beck and Jeffrey Foskett on the same side?
Where'd you hear/read this? Source?
174  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: '5 Classic Albums' release on: May 11, 2014, 03:28:17 PM
I want to say it's the same re-releases from 2 years ago (I think!), they're in the harder paper sleeves.
175  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which albums have a perfect flow and/or have no filler at all? on: May 11, 2014, 10:36:53 AM
The "filler" was a song or two at the most and they didnt have as much filler as the beatles, specially post-revolver, and the majority of every other group at that time and since right-
Perhaps this is too off topic, but I'd love to see a list of what you think is filler within the whole Beatles Discography.
