I was thinking about my favourite song earlier and wondered, if Time To Get Alone was on Pet Sounds would it have more praise from us 'hardcore' fans and the general public? It just seems a bit of a waste on 20/20. I personally love the album and it's probably become my fave album but it doesn't get the recognition it deserves in my opinion.
I can't answer for the hardcore fans, I'm just one of many, but I LOVE Time to Get Alone! Always have! every version is my favorite, Redwood is really unique for their voices, Brian's earlier cut (from Hawthorne, CA) with the horn interlude with the whistling is so cool, it's very Smile-like. The 20/20 version has that great "deep and wide" vocal...I've also heard a bootleg of one of the earlier Smile Concerts in 04 of Brian's band performing TTGA, and I love it! And about 20/20, that's always been (ever since becoming a bigger fan in the early 2000s) one of my favorite albums...I don't know if it's because I knew it didn't do well originally or because it's a hodgepodge of random (but awesome) tracks. TTGA was an instant favourite when I first heard it, still love it now... seems to be a bit of an unpopular opinion on this board, though. And glad to see 20/20 getting some love, it's probably my third favourite album by them, just slightly behind PS and Sunflower. Unpopular? Really? I thought it was known as a BW classic. Everything about TTGA is great! The lyrics, production, vocals, they're all amazing!

Question that doesn't deserve its own thread: What are the spoken lyrics in the middle of the Smiley Smile version of Wonderful? They are difficult to understand, and I'm not even sure what band member(s) are speaking them, although it sounds like Brian. Anyone?
Scroll down through this page, I think you'll find it: http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,4120.150.htmlAnd honestly, that Definative Vocal Thread (yes, all 40 pages), are REALLY educational for the General Studies Beach Boys Student. From the Wonderful Surfermoon website, here's the spoken words (with the scat/words sung in between): Everybody should Wa bobba lee Just start collecting Hey bobba reba Oh yeah Wa bobba lee Kept a-comin on Hey bobba Just to be a cool guy Hey bobba He bobba reba Don't think you're God He bobba reba Vibrations Go for a ride Wa bobba lee Just go for a He bobba reba Just keep goin Wa bobba lee Said it Just keep goin' Hey bobba All you gotta do is Hey bobba Cool it vibrations He bobba reba Ah just gotta do it vibrate

Thinking about it now, we should do definitive vocals for the newer unreleased songs from Made in California...sure we know Denny sang lead on WIBNTLA and Barnyard Blues, but I'd love to read if someone heard other voices on the recordings and who it was...since I still don't own MIC, I don't know if alternative versions would apply such as Amusement Parks USA (I've only heard it a few times), but we do know there's way more vocals to identify on the alternative version of Meant For You.

Interesting if Danny Boy is included. As a teacher, I have been forced to listen to this song far too many times at recitals and school concerts to ever want to hear it again but doubtless they can put their own spin on it.
The stories about Brian are not really a surprise. Rather tame in comparison with the old tales of farting in Marie Osmond`s face or sitting on the studio floor with his c*ck out.
What stories are these? I've never hard of them...is there a place or book I can read it?

Let's have a good discussion about Live in Knebworth 1980... The main issue I'd rather discuss is why the full show wasn't included on the DVD/CD. Using Eric A's setlist website ( http://members.tripod.com/~fun_fun_fun/6-20-80.html), we can see that there were about 7 tunes left off: In My Room, Good Timin', Some of Your Love, I Write the Songs, Catch a Wave, Wouldn't it be Nice, and Santa Ana Winds. So three were basic concert staples/greatest hits (IMR, CAW, WIBN), 2 were concert staples since Bruce came back (obviously GT with the release of LA & IWTS being that it was a huge hit for Bruce), and the other 2 were then current album tracks on the recent Keepin the Summer Alive album (SOYL & SAW). So for my money, the reason I think they weren't included is that possibly they weren't as good of performances as the rest of the setlist was...now not having heard the Knebworth concert boot in years, I can only remember that Brian flubbed up part of the lyrics to Good Timin'. I also want to say that In My room and Wouldn't it be Nice weren't vocally very good. So when Alan Boyd put this great concert package together, he must have thought that those songs weren't up to par with the rest and perhaps he didn't include a few of the KTSA songs to not alienate basic greatest bit fans...assuming if they see too many tunes they don't know, it may turn them off. I don't know for sure....what do you all think? Good Timin' from Knebworth (judge for yourself): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtcbfLnRfpoInterestingly, Carl flubbed the lyrics at the July 4 performance. According to Alan Boyd, those songs weren't used because the performances weren't as strong and the project had to be contained to a 70-75 minute limit. That makes perfect sense about the timing. About Good Timin, there's that additional part that Brian sings (I like it a lot) where he repeats lines after Carl: "You need Good Timin It Takes Good Timin" But in one of those extra repetitions, Brian accidentally sings "HE needs Good Timin." Ooops!

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Our purpose here on the Board of Smiley

I feel others think my purpose here is to ask dumb questions and to be the last one to post on a thread at which nobody responds to.
To make you feel better, I posted on many threads - old or recent - & oftentimes I was the last & the said thread got quickly died down. It's not a biggie, really. Being positive, I actually take it as an honor, like a singer who closes a gala-concert, that's a privilege of a very respected artist. Yes, very hazy analogy, but still. Maybe some of your questions were redundant, but then who can manage to read hundreds of pages of a "Thread for insignificant ?-ns"? The most interesting should be revised. Speaking of last posts in a thread... I tried to organize a few topics I felt important, I'm not sure I'd the Thread for Questions.... Was one of them but there is a lot of interesting stuff going on in there. I wanted to try to do a definitive thread (much like the vocals thread of who sings lead and other lines) that explored who played on each track, but that would take a lot of time and only a few albums give real good details as far aS that goes (MIU & 15 Big Ones oddly enough).

A 1969 more Brian-centric follow-up to Friends..
BREAK AWAY (1969)
Side A
1. Do It Again (MIC) 2. We're Together Again (MIC) 3. Walk On By (seltaeb1012002 remix) 4. Lonely Days (seltaeb1012002 remix) 5. Sail Plane Song (MIC) 6. Mona Kana (MIC) 7. Celebrate The News (MIC)
Side B
8. Break Away (MIC) 9. Time To Get Alone (Alternate Hawthorne CA mix) 10. I Went To Sleep (MIC) 11. A Time To Live In Dreams (Hawthorne CA) 12. Old Man River (Mix of the two versions, as in The Fantastic Mr Fox movie) 13. Can't Wait To Long (GV Box)
This is an artistic statement. wow thanks!! I really dig this sequence much more than 20/20 (which is still a great album!). You're welcome! I feel like if this was released instead of 20/20, we'd have another classic on our hands...sure, as Beach Boys fans, we believe every other album is a classic, but the record buying public that knows Pet Sounds, that takes the Rolling Stone Top 500 albums seriously (which includes PS, Sunflower, POB, Today!) would consider this a "lost classic" of the Beach Boys...inevitabley, this album would have done just as bad as 20/20 unfortunately, but I think, perhaps, present day fans of past great albums would call this the best thing to happen in between Smile and Sunflower, as an artistic statement.

Here's an alternate BW88 with a small helping of Sweet Insanity:
01. Concert Tonite (Intro) 02. Someone To Love 03. Let's Go To Heaven In My Car 04. Being With The One You Love 05. One For The Boys 06. Rio Grande
07. There's So Many 08. Baby Let Your Hair Grow Long 09. Walkin' The Line 10. Melt Away 11. Meet Me In My Dreams Tonight 12. Love and Mercy
That's a heck of a solo album! I really like the usage of Concert Tonight into Someone to Love, it really steps up the album to a faster pace.

Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: The Official BB You Tube Thread

This is great! Ever since I read about the subject, I wanted to see it but at the time there's no video on YT. Luckily, it's been a good trend lately that lots of BB-related stuff had been uploaded there. I was totally floored by the performances, "In My Room" was beautiful, with all the guests. My favorite scene is where Timothy B. Schmit, Chris Cross & Co. have a blast singing BW tune in a checking-room. And now I gained a newly-found appreciation for the album, specifically songs I wasn't fond of - "South American", "Your Imagination" & "Cry". Brian looks cool in those screen clips going along his live singing, very tastefully done. It's all the more good that there was little fluff (his old days with The BBs, drugs, Landy) & more concentration on making the current music (studio/concert snippets/views of other artists on the man). What next... lovely footage of Melinda & their children (small at the mo'), nice kitchen. Basically, to sum it all up, this may be one of, if not THE best doc on Brian as a composer. Besides, it's filled with friendliness & he seemed so enthusiastic on stage during that time frame, it's a real eye candy. Thanks, hal. I remember when I first heard there was a documentary to the Imagination album, I was so enthused to watch it! Live performances of She Says that She Needs Me and South America? That's flipping great! I wish SSTSNM became a concert staple in Brian's career, he needs a slower concert staple tune as such. It's cool seeing Paul Mertens play at the gig, way before being a valuable member of Brian's backing band. I also wish Your Imagination and South America would have ALWAYS been concert staples, they have been in setlists in th past (Your Imagination more frequent and recent.) I wish every Brian Wilson solo album had a DVD like the That Lucky Old Sun dvd, with live performances from the time the album was released, performances of album tunes in concert, studio footage, interviews, etc. I guess just having the Imagination, BW Presents Smile, and TLOS DVDs are good enough.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: are these the Lei'd in Hawaii things?

Considering everyone bemoans the "DDT" (Dreaded Double Thread) I think this - Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days. Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic. - is a bit misleading.
Anyhow - I just got into Lei'd in Hawaii and if anyone wants to revive discussion after an eight year hiatus, bienvenidos.
I constructed a Lei'd in Hawaii playlist from what we have so far, it's only 8 tracks (obviously) and an intro to "Surfin'" I think is hilarious.
It goes nicely as a bonus EP to Smiley Smile.
Lei'd in Hawaii
1. Help You, Rhonda (Lei'd in Hawaii studio) - MIC 2. God Only Knows (live 1967 rehearsal) - Endless Harmony ST 3. California Girls (Lei'd in Hawaii studio) - MIC 4. The Letter (live rehearsal 1967) - MIC 5. You're So Good To Me - Wally Heider boot 6. Their Hearts Were Full of Spring - Wally Heider boot 7. Surfin' rehearsal - Aloha from Hawaii....and Hollywood 8. Surfer Girl (live in Hawaii rehearsal) - GV:30 Years 9. Heroes & Villains - Concert/Live in London two-fer
What's the difference between the Wally a sided boot and Smiley/Wild Honey twofer bonus track of Their Hearts were Full of Spring? I've only heard THAFOS Hawaii rehearsal on that twofer.
