I got a taste of AIR's new album from a promo I watched online - I'm still on the fence about it....I was kinda turned off by the 'eerie' sound you mention.
Does the beauty overshadow the eeriness?
It does - there's also so much cool stuff too (great half 'synthetic'/half orchestral beats at the start), although my internet kept crapping out on the stream so I haven't been able to listen to it all. The songs with the guest vocalists were very good, although unsettling. If there's any sense in me, I'm going to pick it up and watch the film too. Thanks! Yeah, I'm eagerly waiting for the 7th to roll around (you all across the pond may get it sooner than us yanks though). The iTunes album download comes with the movie I do believe. Should be a real treat!

Regardless of how I listen to CDs or Mp3s (sometimes I do sit and just listen to an MP3 or CD album) - I find that vinyl has a much deeper and cleaner sound.
That's cool. I was just responding to your post (#20). You kind of said the opposite of what you are saying in this post with no mention of why you prefer vinyl over mp3 (digital). I agree that vinyl has a different sound, whether I would call it a "cleaner" sound, not so sure, there. Definitely a different listening experience, for sure. I am happy to see vinyl making a bit of a comeback. In post 20 I was just agreeing with a poster that said vinyls make for a more interactive listening experience (getting the record from the sleeve, placing the needle, having to get up and change sides). I wasn't really referring to the quality of sound in that post. Looking back my post really doesn't make sense though haha. But regardless, indeed it is different! I'm glad they're making a comeback too!

Vinyl commands more active and interactive listening.
No, it doesn't. It depends on the person. When I listen to an MP3 album on my computer it's usually just for background noise (even if it's Pet Sounds).... But with vinyl I sit in a chair and close my eyes and really soak in the music. With the knowledge that vinyls wear out over time, I cherish mostly every listen.

I've been listening to U2 ever since I was a little kid.
I LOVE The Joshua Tree and Zooropa is one of my absolute favorite albums.
But I HATE how U2 has chosen to be marketed. I really dislike most of their music after POP. I hate opening The Rolling Stone and seeing something about Bono in there every damn time. I think they are incredibly overrated and overhyped for their modern work.
I just watched their new documentary From The Sky Down today....it really gave me a new appreciation for the the old U2. But nowadays Bono seems to think that money can buy success (the mega-shows, the Spiderman broadway play)...I suppose it has brought success so far, but I think people will start to see through the facade if they don't start creating some original eno-less music soon.
It's easy to blame it all on Bono, but hell the whole BAND must be down with the asinine way in which he promotes the band. I'm with you, the last album of theirs I could stand was pop. It was great, though. Agreed. I guess since Bono is the outspoken frontman it's easy to pin all the blame on him. And I disagree that VDPs is overrated. I guess it's all a matter of opinion, but to me he's been very consistent at making phenomenal music for over the last 45 years. The fact that people from every spectrum of the music industry use him for his talents says something about his stature.

Will be on the lookout for those! When work picks up again I'm definitely adding quite a few more BB albums to my collection.
I got a vintage Friends pressing last month as well - sounds pretty damn good, I think I'll spin that one tonight.

My first vinyl experience: Herb Alpert's Going Places.
That record makes it sound like the musicians are in the room playing right in from of me. I mean, it's utterly unreal how amazing it sounds on vinyl.
I've yet to really listen to SMiLE on vinyl. I just haven't been in the mood lately I guess. I really can't wait though!
Its a trip with my basement surround sound playing mono pet sounds or SMiLE. Playing phil spector records on vinyl are amazing as well. I listened to the new Pet Sounds pressing a month ago (been listening to side 2 on repeat for the last few days) - WIBN was kind of a letdown - but the rest of that album....it was like another speaker was hooked up and I could hear things more clearly/distinctly. I really thought it was hype beforehand...but damn vinyls rule. Can't wait to get a copy of All Summer Long!

It varies so much for me.
The Beach Boys will always be my number one. But some weeks I'm really into Coldplay, other weeks I listen to nothing but Bob Dylan. Others the Doors, The Zombies, The Beatles, U2, Dennis Wilson, Eminem, Sum 41, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Armin Van Buuren.
I'm all over the place when it comes to favorites.

No, it really doesn't sound like Parks at all....it sounds uninspired and way too synthy. The title of the song is: Skrillex orchestral Suite by Varien. So Varien must be a composer or something. Upon second thought, Skrillex is in a upcoming movie called 'Regeneration' (I think) and that may be what Van Dyke Parks was called in for. I don't know. Ugh, I'd just really love to hear what they came up with! *thanks for looking for info though!
