I don't understand how it can be so hard to find... It was a top 10 album pretty much everywhere, so it's not exactly obscure...

Oh, I did see the Simply Vinyl re-issue a few times, but that doesn't count.

I go record shopping at least once every week and I've been in dozens of second hand record stores and at record fairs since I became a serious Beach Boys fan about two/three years ago, but so far I've NEVER seen a single copy of Pet Sounds on vinyl anywhere. I've gone through many hundreds of best of compilations, dozens of 15 Big Ones* and several copies of pretty much everything else, but so far... No Pet Sounds.

* I'm pretty sure 15 Big Ones is in the top 10 of records most often sold to second hand record stores.

Tony Asher. And Van Dyke Parks is a very close second.

What, he likes Green Day? That's so cool... I never expected he could like anything that simple and noisy.
I detect alot of the Beach Boys in Green Day's music.. probably not intentionally on their part, but it's there.

A lot of Californian melodic punk rock bands were influenced by The Beach Boys. Take The Queers for instance, they have a Beach Boys cover on almost every album they've ever done and they even called one of their albums Don't Back Down. Pennywise recorded two Beach Boys covers as well.

Cause as we all know, none of the Beach Boys would ever have even considered consuming any unhealthy products.

See what I mean? We're all human and make bad mistakes.

When you do things on a regular base, they're not mistakes anymore. Murry was just a bad person.

And you can say a whole lot of negative things about Brian, but not that he's a bad person.
2159  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: MURRY Picture Thread! + info too... on: March 09, 2006, 02:53:18 PM
I don't understand how anyone can think of Murry as a likeable person. That guy should've been locked up.
2160  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Reunion: how would you plan it? on: March 08, 2006, 12:44:48 PM
I don't believe that Mike would tour with Brian's band.

I'm pretty $ure it could be arranged $omehow...
2161  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Reunion: how would you plan it? on: March 08, 2006, 12:06:01 AM
Mike, Al and Bruce should just join Brian's band for a couple of shows. That would be the best (and safest) way to do a reunion.

Found this on Google... This is a recent photo of the Kromme Waal in Amsterdam:

Is there anyone living in or nearby Amsterdam to check this out?

I don't really live near Amsterdam (+/- 2 hours by car), but I come there at least 5 of 6 times a year... Next time I'm in Amsterdam I'll look it up and make a picture. Thanks for the address.

Since you're in Holland, can you show us what the area shown on the cover of Holland looks like now?

I don't know exactly where in Amsterdam that is, but my guess is that it look pretty much the same. Hardly anything has changed around the Amsterdam canals, I think most of the houses around there are protected monuments...
2166  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Friends Cover on: March 06, 2006, 12:36:00 PM
My guesses:

In the clouds: on the left is Brian, below him Dennis I think (maybe even twice)... On the right are Al and Carl... The face on the left in the bushes looks like an older Paul McCartney (more from the 80s than 1968), so I doubt it's him. The face on the right in the bushes looks like Bruce. The reflection in the water (?) could be Mike...?
2167  Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: Live At The Roxy Theatre on: March 06, 2006, 10:24:33 AM
The Beach Boys NEVER had a setlist this great. I don't really like Brian's vocals here though.
2168  Smiley Smile Stuff / Brian Wilson Solo Albums / Re: I Just Wasn't Made For These Times on: March 06, 2006, 10:22:25 AM
Damn, I think they're Bri's best vocals of his solo career, before or since...

I agree.

I love this album. Great song selection and nice, mellow and very enjoyable performances.

Tears In The Morning.

Which was, by the way, one of the biggest hits the Beach Boys ever had here in Holland.

You know what...I use to argue that Carl was the second best musician in the family...but after learning about and listening to Dennis' stuff its really hard to just easily give Carl that title.

Yeah, it's hard to say if Carl or Dennis was the second most talented Wilson... Dennis was definately a better songwriter, but Carl was obviously a better singer and musician.
2171  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Classics Selected By Brian Wilson on: March 05, 2006, 11:07:18 AM
A superfluous release because the mainstream audience will prefer a 'real' greatest hits compilation and the fans won't be too interested in buying the same songs again. It's nice to know what Brian's favorites are, but a simple list on his website or in a fanzine would've been good enough.

However, it's a nice selection of songs. I'd prefer it over any regular greatest hits CD.
2172  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: Good Timin': Live At Knebworth 1980 on: March 05, 2006, 11:02:25 AM
Musicians usually prefer playing new songs over songs they've already done a thousand times, so that could explain why Brian seems to be having so much fun during KTSA.

And I'm pretty sure Brian's piano is absolutely inaudible throughout the entire concert.
2173  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Guilty Pleasure Songs From The Catalog (Or Not) on: March 03, 2006, 04:17:50 AM
I made a top 25 of my favorite Beach Boys songs recently, and I'll admit it included Winter Symphony, Soulful Old Man Sunshine... and... (*ducks for cover*) Kokomo.  Cool

Commercially speaking it was the best thing that could've happened, creatively and artistically speaking the worst.

"I seriously can't believe that there actually are people that think Pet Sounds isn't among the 10 best Beach Boys albums..."

That's not stating opinion. That's taking your opinion and stating it as fact and degrading people to go along with it. That's not cool.

You're right, that's not cool. If you found my post offensive, I hereby apologize.

I should've said 'understand' instead of 'believe'. If English isn't your first language you sometimes make a bad choice of words, I guess.  Smiley
