Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / 60s albums rushed?

The thread about Lana prompted me to post this -
Is it known whether the Beach Boys Lana and Farmer's Daughter are the same recordings as the Johnny Dew acetate versions?
It has recently come to my awareness just how much Capitol appears to have wanted to rush out albums and therefore Brian was forced to rehash ideas in order to satisfy the label.
Examples I can think of: -the above acetate being used; -the Lonely Sea being used after essentially being an outtake from an earlier album; -Brian re-visits tracks recorded for other projects as Beach Boys records: Rabbit's Foot / Our Car Club, Big Beat / Do You Remember?
I'm sure there are more examples, these are just off the top of my head.
I guess I'm asking if you think Brian would've cannabilised his own work like that anyway, or whether it was in an effort to provide Capitol with product?

Only the Beach Boys could have a single mix stashed away for a song that gets kicked off an album because the album lacks a feasible single!
It will be great to hear a clear master of this!

How can you be sure it's lossless and not just FLACed from iTunes or Amazon?
There are ways to know after you've downloaded, namely use software like "Lossless Audio Checker". The answer will be clear. I think it is reasonable to assume that the files are from the master quality source, rather than an iTunes download - qobuz is a reasonably reputable service, not some two-bit pirate operation. The price is pretty small.

For those that were screaming out for a lossless release of this set - it's available to some Europeans - Okay, here's the link! http://www.qobuz.com/be-nl/album/the-big-beat-1963-various-artists/0060253767445- FLAC 16bit / 44.1kHz - Wish I had a friend living in Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, or Luxembourg.

Right Time - AJ Lead Vocals Run James Run - AJ Lead Vocals Last Song - LDR On the Island - Zooey Sharing a New Day - Kacey Guess You Had to Be There - Kacey Special Love - Frank Ocean Sail Away - ??
Hopefully Brian will have more than 8 songs. I didn't realize how much of a collaboration album it was until I made this list...
Add: Sail Away - that would be AJ & Blondie Chaplin vocals. Summer Means New Love [1965 track with lyrics] Danny Boy - ? has this been nixed? Saturday Night on Hollywood Boulevard - ? here's hoping for - Last Song w BW lead as the japanese bonus track!!

One mix of First Love (pretty sure it's the original one) has a charming version of "Viggie" with a cute ocarina hook. Carl's very prominent on "Brian's Back", of course. Almost a co-lead vocal.
Thanks so much - is there any "particular" "release" [ahem] that contains the "remix" version. I believe that there is a 2 CD "Darkside" [ahem] - which would seem to be the original.

I'm with Jay & Smilin Ed H, Carl is definitely there. Maybe Brian too, though I can't decipher for sure if it's in fact him. The song itself is good. Except the slightly off guitar solo.
Carl is very obvious on several tracks of the original First Love mix. Finally someone has reminded me there was a remix of the First Love album - is there any easy way to know whether a particular version is a first mix or re-mix, other than listening really hard for Carl? Any tracks in particular that feature Carl pretty prominently?

Pretty sure this is the disc that was cloned to be disc 1 of "Smile (Bits & Pieces)" 2 disc set a few years later - so I hear.
Similar packaging, but incorporating an extra disc showcasing some (at the time) more obscure or recent "finds".

Still no real news on the set then?
It's disappointing not to have heard anything. I'm tipping a pre-Xmas release at this stage, but hopefully I'm wrong and we'll have a track list and official release date by the end of March. Is the box showing up on the Capitol release schedule yet?

I got stiffed by Brad on both that CD set and an expensive leather bound - set of photos.
The man has not an honest bone in his body.
I doubt he ever even had a copy of those tapes from which to make that First Wave set. In my estimation, he just worked up a plausible "sessions" track listing and proceeded to take orders. I still have a copy of the track listing somewhere amongst my stuff.

Which is still as many as Al, Carl and Bruce put together (not counting co-writes with Brian). It's also something like a third of all the songs he wrote for the band (as opposed to his solo stuff).
Dennis was more prolific and more of his songs remained unreleased. Therefore, there were more of them to choose from when comiling the GV box! simple.
