I spoke very briefly with Bruce yesterday before a show and he mentioned a Sunflower release coming out in summer. That's all I got.

Mike is great about signing things for fans in most any circumstance (Bruce is not). If your goal is a Mike signature, I wouldn't worry about springing for the Meet and Greet. I'd arrive early for their arrival to the venue, or wait afterwards. I think before is usually a better bet with any performer, as they aren't exhausted from their night's work. Butt I've seen Mike willingly oblige in just about any given scenario...say what you will about the man, but he always treats fans well.

To put an end to this story, I did not pay for the meet and greet. I waved to Bruce when he arrived at the venue and he waved me over and told security it's fine. He signed my Smiley Smile and Surf's Up, and admired my vintage 1983 Beach Boys hat.

I saw Mike arrive at the venue, but he got there pretty late and I let him be. When he was walking out for intermission,  i held my Pet Sounds up and he nodded in recognition. He came by when he was leaving stage before the encore and signed. He also came out after the show and signed for a few people and signed my Smiley Smile.

Scary thought...If I’d realized back then who’d played Mr Hawthorne on the New Leave it to Beaver, I’d never gotten into Brian’s music which means i likely wouldn’t be alive to even be typing this sentence. Yikes.
Ha. I had to look that up. The Beach Boys' frequent appearances on Full House is what kept me away from them for a long time. Thankfully some people who I respected steered me in the right direction with their music.

Before 2012 he was mainly looked at as lame by the general public. Not the worst thing in the world. Post 2012, and going forward though having seen the worst of him, well, this may really prove damaging. As said above, it’s a shame this didn’t happen earlier
Anecdotal experience: I'm a younger fan, born in 1984, and grew up hearing disparaging remarks in regards to Mike Love. My mom told me she always thought he was a creep. A show I was at around 2010 had the bamd singing the chorus of Good Vibrations adlibbing the lyrics to "Mike Love is a piece of sh*t", Belle and Sebastian has a song naming all the Beach Boys they love, emphasizing "I can even find it in my heart to love Mike Love."

I just thought it would be interesting to see how many opposed to this show are actually meat eaters. I want to clarify something I said earlier in this thread. I have many, many relatives that hunt, and I myself considered doing the training and getting a license. I am pro-hunting. I see no problem in it, as long as you use it to feed your family, and eat what you kill. But shooting something for fun/ "sport", and ripping the head off to put on your wall is something I am very much against, with every fiber of my being.

Right there with you, aside from having any desire to hunt.

Since the other petition thread is locked, I guess I'll ask this here. How many people on this board are meat-eaters?
On again off again. Currently giving a 2nd go at being vegetarian.  Nearly one month into it.

Why on earth would they do this?

Thanks for the advice! Bruce actually approached the small group I was with twice last time around and was very kind, but I was dumb and only had one album with me. Mike took a separate route and we were unable to meet him before and after show, but I'll give it a go again.

Sure thing! As has been discussed here many times, Bruce is the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde of the group. I've met Bruce three times, the first two (2012 & 2015) he was a total charmer and I thought he was just the sweetest guy in the touring lineup, though I had heard stories. Then, meeting him completely by accident in 2017 when he wasn't "on" with the smiles and such...what a nightmare.

Oh yeah, I've heard stories and believe them. Honestly I was surprised how cool he was that night, probably one of my favorite interactions with musicians that I've met.

I did a meet and greet in August of last year and was allowed to bring one item for them to sign, which they graciously did. But they were very strict about enforcing the one item limit.
Thanks for letting me know. I've got two I want signed (Bruce already signed one of them) so that might be too steep a price for me.

Hello, has anyone done the meet and greet experience with Mike and Bruce lately? Will they sign things if you bring them?
63  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: First BB song herd on: January 25, 2020, 08:52:11 AM
There's a good chance I heard their music without realizing it prior to this, but I first learned who the Beach Boys were from Full House in the early 1990s. So probably Kokomo or Barbara Ann.

Which kept me from listening to them for a long time, because I only knew them as that hokey band from Full House.

There are probably bunch of vintage store signing photos showing BB albums in shops. Here's an "LA (Light Album)" signing:

Who are the people next to Bruce?

I caught the Beach Boys at Treasure Island last night. It was my first casino show and first Mike & Bruce show. I'm not sure if it's the venue or the audience the band attracts, but the people around me were pretty dreadful. The people around me were talking loudly through songs, fumbling with their cellphones on full brightness, and had their cellphone flashlights on while recording video. Like c'mon! Otherwise it was a fun show.

The setlist was what you'd expect. Most of the vocals sounded live, but on the last track, Fun, Fun, Fun, Mike's vocals sounded noticeably cleaner and stronger than the other songs. Is it known if they lipsynch?

Other than that, Bruce stopped by with a group of us twice, and was in a friendly mood. Much appreciated that he took a minute to sign, chat, take photos, and inform us that the merch table sells shot glasses and imitate Israeli ambulance noises. Honestly it's one of my favorite experiences from meeting a musician.

"Hey Brian, do you like your cousin Mike?" "No, he is a whiny scumbag piece of trash."
- 2 answers to really dumb questions that Brian would NEVER EVER give the public
I mean, he sort of did here. Maybe the greater context of the original video would change the meaning:

I hope he comes to Minneapolis. I think this time I am going to break down and do the Meet and Greet.
I'm not sure if he's going to do more meet and greets - the last couple shows I've gone to haven't had the option (Minneapolis Christmas show, Surf's Up Milwaukee show)
68  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The fate of the Still Cruisin' Corvettes on: October 03, 2019, 11:00:12 PM
Peter Max is the real jerk of the story. Along with, perhaps, the guy who sold them to him. He likely could have got more money selling them one at a time and at least some of them would have found good homes.

I realize I'm replying to an ancient post, but how many realistically can or want to deal with the logistics of owning 30+ cars, storage, and deal with selling them? I'd take the cash too.

I agree that last night was more than just an "off night". Brian either looked terrified or spaced out. It reminded me a little of some early 80's clips...

I don't even know how to recognize a good from a bad Brian night. The last show I saw was a Christmas show in Minneapolis, and Brian seemed a fair bit more engaged and better vocally. Relatively better, but not what you'd call good.

Trust me, if you were there in Milwaukee, you would have recognized it.
I was in Milwaukee. It was rough. I'm saying his Minneapolis Christmas show was rougher. I don't know if I've seen a "good night", barring the time I saw him in 2009.

At one point during the end of the set - Paul Mertens put down his sax mid-song, walked over to Brian, put his hands on Brian's shoulders and gave him a hug. I don't know if the band sensed Brian might have really been struggling, but it was a touching gesture.
From my angle, it looked like he adjusted Brian's chair so he could be closer to the microphone. Brian looked kind of startled.

My mom attended and it was her first Brian Wilson / Beach Boys show and she said she was crying the whole time because of Brian's condition. I admit I got a little emotional during Surf's Up realizing it's the first and likely last I'll hear him perform it and as I was having that thought, Brian had a 1000-yard long stare in my general direction.

The band sounded great as always and it was a pleasure having the Zombies open.

I had hoped to get Al to sign my Pet Sounds but he didn't seem to be in the mood and waved us off before and after the show.

This isn't on the Beach Boys site yet but they're playing Treasure Island in Minnesota November 15th.

"All over the place" and "no story" are critiques that I've heard leveled at some of the greatest movies ever made, so I have a very difficult time with those kinds of remarks. I remember sitting with a group of people watching There Will Be Blood in the theatre and heard one friend turn to another after an hour and say, "Is there any plot here?" I thought, you are watching one of the greatest movies of the last ten years, and this is your reaction?
... yeah. You've just described my experience walking out of just about any of my favorite films.
