1  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: I'm no music snob, But I think I hate new music.... on: February 21, 2007, 09:20:44 AM
With the advent of my space there are plenty of opportunities to hear and appreciate many exciting new groups. As far as most of the "signed" artists, many are just guided as sequels (sound alikes) to some extent, yet even know the music biz is freeing up a little. Love Norah Jones and her new album.

Always the same two songs? why I ask why?
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boy's Story Coming to the Big Screen on: November 17, 2006, 09:04:14 AM
I believe it probably won't be all that great.  Mainly because DL is involved.  The movie will probably have to focus on a specific area  or two because there is too much to cover.  It will probably be fairly weak.

How many  times will they mess with Pet Sounds before the masters burst in flames..hehe

7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian article on: August 26, 2006, 07:19:44 PM
I met Brian once and I got the impression that he was a Very mentally ill person who did not want to do what he was being forced to do.

Chuck,

Do tell why the board has gotten so elitist and cliquish as of late.  It has become BB snob land it would seem.  Or would you estimate that I need meds?

12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Album form Al? on: July 29, 2006, 08:29:32 AM
Al Jardine is a brilliant if at times a tad lame musician.  That aside, a warm glass of ovaltine with that little impish man sittin' on my knee, lookin' down the coast or whatever.   Cool Guy Perhaps a soothing pep talk as well regarding his realeasing of a new internet-only cd.  Now I am getting that California feeling. Razz
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / Book Reviews / Re: Catch a Wave : The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson on: July 27, 2006, 12:26:23 PM
I had a hard time locating the book.  But did and it was food for thought.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BWPS: How much input did Brian have? on: July 27, 2006, 12:21:07 PM
BWPS is a collage put together by his bandmates and Mr. Parks to honor the album that never was and sadly freinds never will be.  Still, it is a awesome listen at times and I feel BW put his heart and soul into the collage.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Album from Al? on: July 27, 2006, 12:18:42 PM
Gosh I love that little guy Al.  He truly was the third genius in the BB's.  His cd must include a heady over-produced thinly mixed techno/ disco remake of his Disney-esque "Lady Lynda" from the highly under-rated La light album.  Mr. Jardine is still a largely untapped reserve of interesting talent.  Al, just do something,cd,book, concerts something instead of sitting on your tookas.  We want to hear him live but the little guy is as evasive as BW in the years 68-82.  Why doesn't Al capitalize on the interest in his music....I haven't a clue.  I just wanna give him a super tough Big Sur bear-hug.  And squeeze the little impish man.
16  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Discuss, praise, ridicule, and/or mock American Idol performances here. on: May 11, 2006, 06:13:30 PM
If it doesn't have melody nor harmony it ISN'T MUSIC.  Hip hop has neither.  However Music is coming back AI is garbage and Kelly Clarkson is ok but not star material.
17  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: San Diego-Pro's and cons please... on: May 11, 2006, 06:02:53 PM
Thanx Marie, I am actually making a record there.  Plus I want to live near the ocean.  I am getting signed to a small label.  I figured housing would be high but I doubt it is as high as Manhattan.  A power pop cd I am cutting for a label there.  Do U live there? Just curious.  It was very kind of you to tell me about the area.  I use to reside in LA and I think I will like San Diego.  Thank you again.

LA scares the living shitel out of me.

20  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Alone Again (Naturally) on: May 09, 2006, 06:13:45 PM
One of the most melodically depressing songs ever.  I love the spanish guitar break too.  Lounge before there was lounge. Afro

23  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The Ramones Thread on: April 17, 2006, 12:08:08 PM
I loved Dee dee Ramone very much.  He split when the band went Hollywood.  Up to End of the century they were a powerhouse IMO.
24  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Discuss, praise, ridicule, and/or mock American Idol performances here. on: April 17, 2006, 12:06:05 PM
I like Katherine or the brunette girl alot.  AI is a bullshit show that rarely has any talent on it.  It is like kareoke with humiliation. Or like Simon gets the chance to say everything you ever wanted to say to weak ass singers.  I think Kelly Clarkson is horrible as well as the fat black guy who beat Clay Aiken(Reuben stinks as an entertainer).  Clay Aiken is perhaps the most talented vocalist to emerge from AI but is lame and passe as a creative entity. AI highlights to unparrelelelled success everything that is wrong with American music as well as what is wrong with the way it is foolishly marketed.  Looks and gang-affiliation are the KEY to success in america.  I give AI props in one respect however..They do not accept Rap or hip-hop as music. Because it isn't music and takes zero talent to produce it. Period. America is starving for talent, yet looks and image and finance are all that propel the biz. American artists like Fiona Appel and Nora Jones are true talents.  If they were gang members they would probably be bigger, since we as a nation glorify murder and crime as worthy of fame. American music execs have alot of blood on their hands as well as tobacco companies. Music execs love to drink from their little vomit bowl.
25  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Jack White makes song for COKE commercial. on: April 17, 2006, 11:50:28 AM
Don't get me wrong, they are still better than 98% of most recycled crapola in the biz.
