Not this again.. Please see the old threads for more on this.
What is the "this" which you're referring to? Bill's theory. I think if you have a look back at the history on here you'll see it's just a fantasy. I'll add to that, i'm pretty sure that was confirmed by those that would know. Brian was spontaneously rolling through an age of significant change. Joining the dots, after the fact and drawing a preconceived conclusion doesn't make it correct.

I always wondered about that, too. But unfortunately I can't tell what Sonny West (it is him, isn't it?) and the other are saying. I don't think this has anything to do with the Beach Boys but maybe I'm wrong. My wild guess is The Beach Boys sent Elvis a good luck postcard and he opened it. The picture would of had no Brian in it, Sonny asked where's Brian? Whatever happened to him? He's still out there writing songs... The look on Elvis's face is one of disappointment and empathy? Perhaps he knew of Brian's struggle and withdrawal?? Elvis was nervous about getting back out on stage and performing, perhaps he felt an affinity with Brian? Pure speculation of course. But the more I watch it , the more I'm convincing myself this could happen

What's your thoughts on this track? Well, it's ok but I'm not blown away. I love the strings on the master take, especially the lonesome violin, so I miss those. But as with so many of the '71 recordings, Elvis doesn't go the extra mile, therefore staying behind the song's potential. If this was 1970 it would be a totally different story. But let's face it, for the most part 1971 was not a particularly strong year when it comes to studio recordings. There are some very good ones but not enough to justify the release of such a boxset imo. What do you think? I agree, its Elvis, but not as he could be.
