Music Trivia: Kathy Silva married Sylvester Stone of Sly and the Family Stone at Madison Square Garden in NYC June 5, 1974 -- six days before I saw the Who there and two weeks before I graduated high school. Had I known then I was going to write this book, I would have gotten to the Garden a week earlier This is usually where AGD jumps in with " you need a Tardis"

Two new posts are up on the companion website . . . Presenting the Book to the Beach Boys -- about my recent experience meeting Mike, Bruce, and David. CANDIX Enterprises, Inc. Discography -- a complete look at the indie record label that released "Surfin'" b/w "Luau" and, as they say, the rest is . . . http://becomingthebeachboys.com/ Thanks catbirdman for the kind support. Would love to tackle that ambitious project with the Boys' input. Good stuff there! Tho that guy between Mike and Bruce doesn't look anything like the picture on your website. So, Bruce got a copy and the three of them signed Mike's copy and gave it back to you? Looking thru the Candix disco, I had several questions( which I have to ponder before asking) but I would be interested in this one: How can you tell by the Delta numbers that a record was both pressed first and released later( #'s 336/338) ? or am I reading incorrectly and you simply mean 338 is delta-numbered earlier

By the way, Kent, I would have appreciated being credited for my black & white shot of Carl in the 70's... Don't know where you got that copy with the Reprise credit; haven't ever seen that before, and they never had the rights to use it! Sure wish you had contacted me; couldn't given you some great shots to use from Carl's show at The Roxy
Hey Ed, I really feel we all need to see them ( like now ) please And then we'll have world peace!

I still have a lot more promo CDs -- solo stuff, side projects, guest vocals, etc. -- before I move on to cassettes. It's going to be a rainy weekend, so maybe I'll have a chance to post them today or tomorrow.
Sounds really cool, Love to see them!! Hope your power stays on ( hurricane?)

If I recall, when the box set was put on hold, David called Capitol and asked if ESQ's set needed to be returned, and they said "yes." Right or wrong, I didn't make that same offer with the personal set I received...
I think that's enough of my personal bidness for tonight. Next topic Chris?
I'm going to round up the scans of BBs promo cassettes from the General topics thread and post them in Media. Then I think I'll see what other ones I have. Not certain if there are others posted elseweher in other topics, but it seems a good idea to have them all in one easier to find location?

Did you return the cassettes? ( I'm thinking: NO )
ESQ returned its set as requested, but I personally got a set for my role as "Research Coordinator," along with a signed thank-you letter from Brian. That set I kept. didThat's very cool considering the note from BW; Basically, wondering if they let you keep yours but return ESQs or if you got them later. and , if later, are they the same as the original set sent to ESQ( maybe they sent you ESQ's?)

By the way, the advanced promo cassettes did get sent out a few days before the entire release was put on hold; ESQ was actually asked by Capitol to return its set.

Inside covers and discs. Oddly, the interior of the cover is in color on the counterfeit, but in black and white on the legitimate releases: The jewel case inserts for the legitimate releases are clear, and there is this photo underneath: Obviously I got lucky in that the one I posted WAY up above is the legitimate early withdrawn issue. I also notice there are a lot of numbers around the hub of this disc, legible from the back side; are these the same on the early and later Capitol versions? I'd presume they're different from the counterfeit version

The numbering of the SIP CD singles is a mess: - The advance release of "Hot Fun in the Summertime" is BBPRO-1. " BBPRO 1 01@" is etched on the hub of the disc. As stated above, no mention of Brother Entertainment anywhere on the CD or jewel case. - The normal promo of "Hot Fun in the Summertime" is BB PROCD-2 on the label and jewel case, but "BBPRO 1 01@" is etched on the hub of the disc -- so it's the same mastering as above. - "Forever" is PROCD-3 (without the BB). But "BBPROCD 3 01@" is etched on the hub of the disc - "Under the Boardwalk" is BB PROCD-4. Can't see what's etched on the disc. - "Summer in Paradise" is PRO CD4 on the label, but "BBPRO CD 4 01%" is etched on the hub of the disc - "Summer of Love" was a Scotti Bros. release (SBDJ 78033-2)
So both "Under the Boardwalk" and "Summer in Paradise" are PRO CD 4...

Nice. And quite a nice collection you have ^^^ there, I might add; weird that they couldn't get all the numbering straight. IDo you think that's on Navarre or Brother? Any idea what the 01% or 01@ references? I notice there's an "A" just a tiny bit farther along on SIP, a "B" on Hot Fun and a "C" on my Forever; any idea on that?

yeah, why not. Maybe I'll win the grand prize, I subscribed
But you already own everything included in be grand prize. In the Outer Mongolian release version as well as coloured vinyl. Maybe if you win you'll redistribute it all to Third World and UK fans… I was thinking for most of it, about you, John Ooh, where's the :blush emoticon when you need it!!! I bet John has most of it as well. Best send it down Melbourne way where it can be best appreciated; our local stocks of Surf City Allstars souvenirs is critically low. Actually, David, keep me in the draw & when I win this bounty, I'll make up the difference on the postage! gee, offering bribes...

It's a bummer if people are really holding back from any interviews whatsoever specifically because they're doing their own book. Seriously, who is going to pick up a Marilyn autobiography and say, "Nah. I was going to buy it, but I just remembered she gave those five interview quotes to that Carl biography."
But of course that's the way most people, of the interviewees, will think about it. Save the really good stuff for their own tomes. Tho, I wouldn't have thought Brian or Mike would divulge much in any case. Seems odd to say Bruce is writing , when he so loudly proclaims he never will. I suppose one by Marilyn could be fairly good, depending of course, how much is really based on her own memories and not glommed from other sources. In any case, the info that's been presented seems to try to make a better case for the Carl book, but based on the previous reviews it still seems one to wait to hit the bargain section
