Why is it always Ryan Reynolds doin' the reaction shots? Why not the Olsen Twins, or Bea Arthur?

We don't talk about Full House here.

Well, it seems there were only two - the first one, which just had "Smile" and a mouth at the top; and the second one, which had the added text about "SECOND EDITION" next to the mouth.

On the whole, the record doesn't sound terrible, UNTIL it gets to "Surf's Up" and then it's so screechy and distorted I have to turn it off.  I even looked at the vinyl, it's not worn or anything.

I'm thinking of putting the TSS box version of "With Me Tonight" after the last part 2 'dit-dit-dit heroes and villains' variation, starting with the lone bass riff.  Perhaps the accidental crash that brings the song to an end can lead back into "My children were raised"? Smiley

Here's a question....

Does anyone else's first edition Brother "Smile" LP sound ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY AWFUL in "Surf's Up"?

Seriously - most of the ending portion (listed separately, and wrongly, as "Child Is Father Of The Man") is a loud burst of static that sounds like a needle scraping across grooves!  Nearly knocked me off my chair! O_O

Mine came from Discogs.  Someone from here pointed me to it - it confusingly was listed as a Brother Records release, rather than Vigotone.  (Fair enough, that's what the labels say.)

.......Crap.

Had no idea about the 1991 one.  Oh well.  Just spent a lot of money to get Vigotone and Second Edition, I can't do anymore.  My next purchase when I get money again is more than likely going to be hunting down "The New Album", which I've had zero luck with so far.

Well, I bought the Second Edition so hopefully I'll be done.

But yeah, there seems to be two editions of the Vigotone variant - one with Brother Records labels, and one with blank labels.  I assume the later is a knockoff?

But that's all there is?  Like, once I get the Second Edition I'll be done?  (I have the first edition + Vigotone in the mail + Sea Of Tunes already.)

Quick question - are there only four unofficial Smile vinyls?  The original boot (Brother Records), the Second Edition (Brother Records), the 3-LP colored edition (Vigotone) and the recent colored single-disc version (Sea Of Tunes)?

Ditto, John! How can anyone NOT want to hear how that amazing piece of music was put together?

But "velvet pancakes"? Really?? What sounded like THAT??!

You obviously never saw "Walk Hard". Smiley

There are just so many outtakes in these sessions where Brian stops everything for no apparent reason, and you just want to scream "GODDAMMIT BRIAN, IT WAS FINE!!"

I guess to him the instruments didn't sound enough like jewelry, or crying, or velvet pancakes. :-P

Wow.... that REALLY sucks, I didn't even see that auction. :-(

Man, "Secret Smile" is ROUGH to get through, isn't it?  I heard Brian abort 12 takes of "Cabinessence", then realized in horror the REST OF THE DISC was more of the same. :-P

As far as vinyl boots go, I think the last one I'll try to find is the 'second edition' Brother one.

Does anyone know what's so different about that, other than obviously the removal of the Miles Davis track?  Like, do they use an actual Smile version of "Wonderful" rather than the Smiley Smile one?
64  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who has ever had a big slap from ebay ? For listing a ummmm you know what ! on: October 30, 2014, 06:53:53 AM
I think I have the Purple Chick Smile, never cared much for it for some of their editing tactics (like that ugly slow-down at the end of "Look").  Was "Secret Smile" just a set of MP3's?  In that case, I think I have that as well.

Someone found me a really inexpensive Vigotone "Smile" vinyl set (with all the goodies attached) so I have that on the way, too.

Funny story....

My buddy generally dislikes the Beach Boys.  I mean, I played "Smile" for him claiming it was the greatest album ever (which I honestly believe), and he hated it.  He made me turn it off.

However, this past weekend, I played him 'Summer Of Love'.  HE LOVED IT.  HE FRIGGING LOVED IT.  He declared it the best Beach Boys song ever.

*face palm*

Read "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and write me an essay titled 'Why This Book Is B.S.'. :-P

(That would be about as worthwhile as all the kids in my high school who wrote book reports on the only Lennon biography we had.... you guessed it, Albert Goldman's.)

Well, to be fair, I just bought the "Heroes And Villains Sessions Parts 1 & 2" CD in a record shop, and I can almost guarantee I've heard all of that.  Not to mention, in much, MUCH better quality - and not at chipmunk speed.

(Besides - the Vigotone Smile has that entire side of Psycodelic Sounds material.)

Yeah, well..... too late now. :-(

Though it goes without saying - if anyone on here has one to spare (and is willing to be reasonable), you know where my inbox is....

For one thing, I was *six* in 1993....

And no, because every copy I see online (other than this one) costs a ridiculous amount.

GODDAMMIT!

They killed that "Smile" Vigotone set now. :-(  I really wanted that, too - that was the cheapest I'd ever seen it.

Ah.... THAT's why I can't find "Adult Child" on eBay.  I've been looking for an LP version like crazy.

Wow.... I've never heard a Maharishi story that DIDN'T boil down to him being full of sh*t. :-P

No, no, go on as much as you'd like!  I'm always open to new H&V structures. :-)

I mean, mine's just based on the GV boxed set/Odeon Smile layout, because that's what I'm most used to.  I'm just used to that Part 1 (with Cantina)/Gee/Part 2 (chorus variations) lay out.

That sucks.

I bought the Brother Records "Smile" (with 'Here Comes De Honey Man') on eBay for $9.00 a few days ago.  XD
75  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 17-minute \ on: October 28, 2014, 07:22:02 AM
(Also, your version definitely gave me some ideas of how to make mine longer... like adding in "All Day" before "In The Cantina.")
