Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mystery Bruce Johnston album
|

I found, on one website, the tracklist for an album called "Fun" by the Catalinas, which was apparently another one of Bruce's gratuitous fly-by-night surf groups. (It apparently featured Leon Russell on piano.)
However, I can't find ANY other information about this album, and unlike Bruce's other side projects, this one doesn't seem to have been released on CD.
Anybody??
(By the way, if anyone's getting curious... my discography is coming soon. It will be a downloadable DOC file.)

I want to include the physical fitness album, but I don't know where it falls chronologically. The Bellagio page's "Ones That Got Away" page is missing stuff like that (along with "40 Top 40's", which I don't think was ever released even though Andrew's book mentions it, and "Stars and Stripes 2".) I added some sections: BLONDIE CHAPLIN * Blondie Chaplin * Ostrich Man (with Skollie) - I can't find a tracklist for this ANYWHERE. * Fragile Thread * Between Us THE FLAMES/THE FLAME * Ummm! Ummm! Oh Yeah! * That's Enough * Burning Soul! * Soulfire!! * Soul Meeting!! * The Flame (There are at least three other Flames albums as well, including an unreleased Brother Records release I believe, but all of these are compilations. Incidentally, I wouldn't mind hearing these albums - would be interesting to hear a young Stig O'Hara doing Beatles covers!! ) THE RUTLES * The Rutles (both versions) * Archaeology * Sweet Rutle Tracks (the album's worth of unreleased material that's been passed around on countless bootlegs... "Sweet Rutle Tracks" was the name of the core bootleg though, and all others are just rip offs of it) Still not sure about David Marks, though. EDIT: Added "Disco Celebration" - I'd never heard of that one. I also started a David Marks section... DAVID MARKS * Without Earth (with The Moon) * The Moon (with The Moon) -> I don't know the tracklists of these. I know there's a 2fer CD, but I can't tell where one album stops and the other begins! * Something Funny Goin' On * I Think About You Often * Live At Blue Dolphin -> There are a couple David Marks compilations as well - "The Lost Years" and a collection of Marksmen songs.

Alright, my 'simple' Beach Boys discography is about 45 pages now... because everytime I look, I find another friggin' album!! But can someone more knowledgeable look over these lists of albums I've covered and see if I'm missing anything?
THE BEACH BOYS: STUDIO ALBUMS * Surfin' Safari * Surfin' USA * Surfer Girl * Little Deuce Coupe * Shut Down, Vol 2 * All Summer Long * Christmas Album * Today * Summer Days * Party * Remember The Zoo (noted within the discography as a hoax) * Pet Sounds * Smile * Smiley Smile * Wild Honey (both versions) * Friends * 20/20 * Reverberation * Add Some Music * Sunflower (both versions) * Landlocked (including the fake David Leaf version) * Surf's Up * Carl And The Passions: So Tough * Holland (both versions) * Caribou Album * 15 Big Ones * New Album * Love You * Adult Child * Merry Christmas * California Feeling * M.I.U. * Light Album * Keepin' The Summer Alive * the unmade 'ecological' concept album * Cousins, Friends And Brothers * The Beach Boys * Still Cruisin' * Summer In Paradise * Stars And Stripes 1 * Stars And Stripes 2 * The Beach Boys Salute Nascar
THE BEACH BOYS: LIVE ALBUMS * Concert * Live In Michigan * Lei'd In Hawaii * Live In London * In Concert (both versions) * Beachago * 25 Years Of Good Vibrations * Good Timin'
BRIAN WILSON * A World Of Peace Must Come (with Steve Kalinich) * The Wilson Project (with Gary Usher) * Brian Wilson * Brian * Sweet Insanity * I Just Wasn't Made For These Times * Orange Crate Art * Soul Searchin' (aka The Paley Sessions) (with Andy Paley) * Imagination * Live At The Roxy * Pet Sounds Live * Gettin' In Over My Head * Smile * What I Really Want For Christmas
DENNIS WILSON * Hubba Hubba * Pacific Ocean Blue * Bamboo
CARL WILSON * Carl Wilson * Youngblood * Like A Brother
BRUCE JOHNSTON * Surfer's Pyjama Party * Surfin' Round The World * Hey Little Cobra (Rip Chords) * Three Window Coupe (Rip Chords) * Going Public
MIKE LOVE * Almost Summer (Celebration) * Celebration (Celebration) * First Love * Country Love * Looking Back With Love * Catch A Wave * Mike Love Not War
MIKE LOVE AND BRUCE JOHNSTON * Symphonic Sounds (with the Royal Philharmonic) * Summertime Cruisin'
MIKE AND DEAN * Rock And Roll City (and all its various alternate versions) * Christmas Party
AL JARDINE * an untitled unreleased album * Big South * Live In Las Vegas
That's all I have so far, and hopefully I haven't missed anything because this is getting rather huge... and I still have to fit David Marks, Blondie Chaplin, and Ricki Fataar in there somehow.
*sigh*

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Track lists of these albums?

For my discography I'm putting together, I need the tracklists (and any other track details, if possible) for the Mike and Dean releases: "Rock 'N' Roll City", "Rock 'N' Roll Again", "Christmas Party", "Scrooge's Rock 'N' Roll Christmas", and any others I may have missed.
Thanks in advance!

Ah, you're the person who wrote that discography I believe? Just the person I was looking for! Incidentally, are you ever going to update that page? I mean, now that "Mike Love, Not War" can officially be added to the list. Incidentally, speaking of "Landlocked", what do you think about the booklet's note that "Til I Die" was an extraneous track not part of the 'album'? I've never heard a Landlocked boot that had it, but if they're talking about the "Endless Harmony" version (which I believe they are), I would be inclined to agree with them... I wouldn't imagine that strange mix being intended for official release in any way.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Which raises a question...

Yep, it's an original, with the booklet intact. The booklet raised a question though... it states that the BB's unreleased final Capitol album was actually meant to be titled "The Last Capitol Album", whereas the Bellagio discography calls it "Reverberation".
Which is the proper title?

Smiley Smile Stuff / 1960's Beach Boys Albums / Re: Pet Sounds

Well, using the Eighties version was a rough approximation - the article said that the "I'm In Great Shape" that supposedly appeared on "Remember The Zoo" 'evolved' into "Poor Old Body."
(And yes, I'm well aware of the "Smile" track of that same title.)

Speaking of "Pet Sounds" related stuff... I *FINALLY* got around to putting together a rough "Remember The Zoo"... not half bad really! Obviously, it doesn't much resemble what the phony article described, but it's still interesting to hear. My version was something like this...
1) In The Back Of My Mind (standard version) 2) Let Him Run Wild ('alternate version' I found online) 3) Summer Means New Love (standard version) 4) The Little Girl I Once Knew (45 version from box) 5) Trombone Dixie (trimmed to remove chatter) 6) In My Childhood ('Still Believe', left channel folded to mono) 7) Pet Sounds (left channel folded to mono) 8} I'm Waiting For The Day (an 'alternate version' I believe?) 9) I'm In Great Shape ('He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body To Move' - the Brian track, folded to mono, with 60's style bass and reverb. Hey, I was just following the article.) 10) Tones (the Carl 'Smile' track. Makes a nice closer!)
As for the two missing tracks ("Teeter-Totter Love" and "Remember The Zoo"), I might include the Marcels' TTL if it sounds Beach Boys-ish, AND if I can find it (hint hint), and may fake "Zoo", if I can... but for now, it's not that bad of an album. Very down-beat and Pet Sounds-ish, in fact!

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Is this unreleased album for real?
|
on: May 28, 2007, 11:38:36 PM

A while back I remember reading about an unreleased 1982 album called "Cousins, Friends and Brothers"... I might've even asked about it here. I can't remember doing so so there's a possibility that the thread just didn't attract that much attention.
But is this album real? It's not listed in that great "The Ones That Got Away" list on the Bellagio site...
