LOL, yep - I did leave Brian's comment (as well as the later "f***, I can't sing this bitch!")... why not? Smiley
28  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / "Sunflower" as a 2-LP on: November 16, 2014, 10:12:09 AM
I've been thinking recently.... given the overload of material (three scrapped track-lists and a couple other circulating leftovers to boot), what if "Sunflower" was expanded from a measly 12 tracks to a mighty 31?

I've started putting this together for myself - the track order is essentially arranged in chronological order according to when the track was completed - and so far it's not too shabby. :-)

SIDE ONE
01) The Lord's Prayer  [mono with one channel delayed, since the uncirculated Sunflower-era mix was Duophonic]
02) San Miguel
03) Got To Know The Woman
04) Celebrate The News
05) Loop De Loop
06) Forever
07) All I Wanna Do
08) Deirdre

SIDE TWO
01) Break Away
02) I'm Going Your Way (California Slide)
03) Cotton Fields  [45 version]
04) Slip On Through
05) Walkin'
06) Games Two Can Play
07) When Girls Get Together
08) Soulful Old Man Sunshine

SIDE THREE
01) At My Window
02) This Whole World
03) Where Is She?
04) I Just Got My Pay
05) Good Time
06) Carnival
07) Our Sweet Love
08) Fallin' In Love (Lady)

SIDE FOUR
01) Tears In The Morning
02) Back Home
03) Take A Load Off Your Feet
04) Add Some Music To Your Day
05) Susie Cincinnati
06) It's About Time
07) Cool, Cool Water

Now THAT, to me, is a powerhouse Beach Boys album. Smiley

Yeah.... I honestly have no idea where I heard that version now.  It wasn't on my CDR.

I specifically remember expecting them to say "dentist" but they didn't.  Huh... no idea, then.

Huh.... I'm almost tempted to get my Beach Boys CD binder out of my car and listen for sure!!

I'll need to check that out again later.
31  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'Add Some Music' mix confusion on: November 14, 2014, 07:50:18 AM
I'm almost certain, when I tried to piece together "Sun Flower" (the original version) and "Add Some Music" for myself, I used an alternate mix - possibly from 'Get The Boot'? - where they say "wicker chair".

I played "Sunflower" (the normal version) yesterday, and hearing them say "dentist chair" threw me off, I wasn't used to that change!
32  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / 'Add Some Music' mix confusion on: November 13, 2014, 06:04:26 PM
I'm curious.... other than "Tears In The Morning" (which was originally a different take used), do we know if the songs from the older, scrapped lineups of "Add Some Music/Sunflower" were the same mixes as the released versions?

For example, I know there is an alternate mix of 'Forever' out there, as well as one of 'Add Some Music' (I believe the lyrics say "wicker chair" instead of "dentist chair"?) - were those from the unreleased LP's?

Thanks!!

Thoughts?  Anyone?

Bueller?
35  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Heroes and Villains: The Special Edition EP on: November 11, 2014, 12:02:51 PM
Well, since my 22-minute H&V was more or less buried at the end of a thread, that gave me the opportunity to smooth out some of the edits, and make a more appealing package out of it! Smiley

So, I present the special edition "Heroes and Villains Director's Cut" EP!  Along with a couple tweaks here and there, the suite has been divided into 10 individual FLACs which still flow together as a continuous 21:43 piece. Smiley

"Surf's Up Part 2" is a 10-minute masterpiece revealing, in graphic detail, the EXACT meaning of 'columnated ruins domino'. Smiley

US oddities aside, "Country Air" is a pretty damn strange inclusion.
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 17-minute \ on: November 10, 2014, 07:21:46 AM
Is it just me, or does streaming it from the Zippyshare page (instead of downloading it), and playing the heavily-compressed preview version, add some depth that normally isn't there?

It sounds sounds a bit odd and interesting on headphones to me. Cheesy
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 17-minute \ on: November 09, 2014, 05:41:50 PM
Okay.... here is my 21:49 "Heroes and Villains".  This is as far as I'm willing to go.
http://www24.zippyshare.com/v/15513133/file.html

And for my money, the 17-minute one I made is still much, much better.  I tried so hard to make this all work, and I'll admit, I may have failed.

I'll pay what I have to to complete the set.  I just can't find a copy for sale anywhere.

(Only an old, now-finished auction where it sold for $16.)
41  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who has ever had a big slap from ebay ? For listing a ummmm you know what ! on: November 09, 2014, 11:21:19 AM
Surely, you jest. ;-)

Seriously, though........ my collector's obsession is kicking in full.  I need to find that 1991 Smile 2-LP and complete the set.

COUGH COUGH.  HINT HINT.  INBOX ME.  I'M IN O.C.D. HELL HAVING FOUR OUT OF THE FIVE. :-P

I'm curious.... the liner notes of "Smile Second Edition" promise a "Third Edition" to be released sometime in the late 80's.

I'm assuming this never happened?
43  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 17-minute \ on: November 08, 2014, 08:04:07 PM
Okay, change the topic title to "23-minute Heroes and Villains coming!" Smiley

It's not a replacement for my 17-minute one (since people seemed to really like how that was put together).... just an obsessively-inclusive alternative!
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The complete album chronology - is this it?! on: November 07, 2014, 12:05:57 PM
Eh, I'm not that picky, honestly.  That's why "Shut Down, Vol. 1" was included - it was so closely related it merited inclusion (and in my discography I explain why I included it).

I had no idea "Scrooge's Rock & Roll Christmas" was an album though?  I thought it was only a movie....
45  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Laughing Gravy 45? on: November 07, 2014, 12:04:40 PM
Yeah, too much.  I wouldn't even pay more than $50 for the Vigotone "Smile".  (Okay, I might have if it was absolutely necessary, but I found it for $50.)
46  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The complete album chronology - is this it?! on: November 07, 2014, 06:05:32 AM
Why'd you cross out the "Deadman's Curve" soundtrack?

Because it's not a Mike Love album: he's guesting on several tracks. That's all.

Well, it seems as valid as the Radio Shack stuff - Mike wasn't on every track there.  What about "A Baker's Dozen"?  I mean, was that meant to be a credited collaboration album?
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Laughing Gravy 45? on: November 07, 2014, 06:03:50 AM
Eh, it'd still be cool to have as a "Smile" collectable.

I highly doubt I'd be able to afford one if it showed up, though!

Okay, I'll admit it - the collecting bug has bitten me.

I kinda do want to get my hands on that 1991 2-LP version now, mainly because I have the rest of them.  So, *cough* you know... :-P
50  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Laughing Gravy 45? on: November 06, 2014, 07:49:19 PM
I'm curious.... does anyone actually OWN the Laughing Gravy 45??  It seems *incredibly* rare.  I can't even find the B-side online anywhere.

I did find a label scan of the "Vegetables" side - quite odd that it identifies it as being 'from the album Smiley Smile', when that's clearly not the same version!
