Tony Sheridan is indeed still alive. And milking his 'Beatle' (cough) status for all it's worth.
Every now and then, the topic of a 'new' Beatles album comes up.... despite persistent legends, there aren't THAT many unreleased Beatles songs. A lot of those titles - "Colliding Circles", "Always and Only", "I Should Like To Live Up A Tree", etc, are fictitious. To the best of my knowledge, here is a list of 'unreleased' recordings.
* Besame Mucho, 1962 (released in edited form on Anthology 1) * How Do You Do It, 1963 (released in edited form on Anthology 1) * You Know What To Do, 1964 (released on Anthology 1) * Shout, 1964 (released in edited form on Anthology 1) * If You've Got Trouble, 1965 (released in edited form on Anthology 2) * That Means A Lot, 1965 (released in remixed form on Anthology 2) * Hold On, I'm Comin', 1965 (not the Sam and Dave track, but rather, an unreleased John demo from the Rubber Soul era... probably out on a bootleg by now) * Rubber Soul, aka 12-Bar Original, 1965 (released in heavily edited form on Anthology 2) * Anything, 1967 (unbootlegged 17-minute Sgt Pepper outtake) * Carnival of Light, 1967 * Hey Le-La-Lu, 1968 (unbootlegged Yellow Submarine outtake, appeared on rough track lists for Anthology 2) * Circles, 1968 * Sour Milk Sea, 1968 * Child Of Nature, 1968 * Junk, 1968 (released on Anthology 3) * What's The New Mary Jane, 1968 (released on remixed form on Anthology 3) * Not Guilty, 1968 (released in a ridiculously butchered form on Anthology 3) * Etcetera, 1968 (unbootlegged White Album outtake) * Watching Rainbows, 1969 * Mailman Bring Me No More Blues, 1969 (released in a ridiculously butchered form on Anthology 3) * Teddy Boy, 1969 (modern-day edit released on Anthology 3) * Rocker, 1969 (brief track from the "Get Back" LP) * Save The Last Dance For Me, 1969 (ditto... not worth releasing) * The Walk, 1969 ("Get Back" reject) * Who Slapped John, 1969 (oldies jam from "Abbey Road" sessions) * Be Bop A Lula, 1969 (oldies jam from "Abbey Road" sessions) * Grow Old With Me, 1994 ("Anthology" sessions) * Love Me Do, 1994 ("Anthology" sessions) * Now and Then, 1994 ("Anthology" sessions) * All For Love, 1994 ("Anthology" sessions)
Other than the piles of garbage from January 1969, that's pretty much it.

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Has Anyone Else Heard Any Unrealeaed Albums/ Lost Materpieces Besides Smile?

Some of my favorite albums are officially unreleased. For example, Chumbawamba's "Jesus H. Christ", Eminem's "F***ing Crazy" and "Off The Wall" (both far less commercial than the "Slim Shady" and "Marshall Mathers" LP's from the same time period), and the Bee Gees' "A Kick In The Head Is Worth Eight In The Pants." The latter is actually my favorite Bee Gees album.
Other ones that have a handful of good tracks are They Might Be Giants' "Superfueled Freaksickle" (from which all material was actually released commercially anyway), Eminem's "Don't Call Me Marshall" (a lost 8 Mile-era album), and Maurice Gibb's "The Loner."
I'm hoping we get the third (and final) recorded track from Pink Floyd's "Household Objects" on a future Immersion set. (Meddle, perhaps? That's coming next...)

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Phony 'Landlocked' ad?
|
on: July 01, 2012, 04:29:47 PM

Andrew's 'unreleased albums' page mentions a mock-up ad for "Landlocked" printed in a book written by David Leaf about Brian.... apparently all the song titles on the ad are sourced from a country album.
Could someone please scan that ad for me? I've always wanted to see it.

He's trying to dispel false 'facts' on that page as well - thus the inclusions of "Remember The Zoo" and "Landlocked". I appreciate the information he has about those two albums.
I agree, though, that page needs a revamp; "Smile" and "A World Of Peace Must Come" are both released now, and the mid-90's album, "Unplugged In Paradise", and "Mike Love Not War" are all missing.

Here's the tracklist for side 2, which should be available within a week or so (still working out the title track)....
07) "Pet Sounds" - The boxed set version, which has yet to include a lead guitar track. I found this version particularly appropriate, because the "Remember The Zoo" version was said to have vocals; this version seems poised to leave room for vocals... which we know in reality were never recorded.
08) "I'm Waiting For The Day" - The alternate version sung by Mike, as heard on The Pet Sounds Sessions.
09) "I'm In Great Shape" - According to the false article that bore the RTZ legend, in 1966, this title was actually a very early version of Brian's 1988 b-side "He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body To Move." Well, of course, that is utter bull. So here, I've created my own version, starting with the SMiLE rendition (taken from the Purple Chick boot), with the reverb exploding right into that very b-side, folded to mono, sped up to de-age Brian's voice a bit, and loaded with Spectoresque reverb.
10) "Teeter Totter Love" - Funnily enough, when I first made my own 'Zoo' compilation, I used an acapella version of the Marcels song here... it actually didn't fit that awkwardly onto a Beach Boys album! But, now we have the real track, which sticks out like a sore thumb on a Beach Boys album... but nonetheless, in keeping with the fake tracklist, here's Jasper doing his thing.
11) "Tones" - The complete overdubbed version, complete with the breakdown ending removed from The Smile Sessions.
12) "Remember The Zoo?" - The original article described this non-existent title tune as a bizarre song akin to "Tomorrow Never Knows". And bizarre it shall be - a truly strange, stripped-down rendition of "Pet Sounds" thickly layered with jungle noises, backwards animals, melodic elephant trumpeting, echoed and reversed bird calls not unlike Paul's 'seagull' noises from TNK...... I just hope everyone enjoys it. ;-)

Honestly? Try a quick Google search.... that's probably THE easiest unreleased Beach Boys album to find, outside of the various "Smile" bootlegs. Hell, I found a "Landlocked" CD in a used CD store once.
The track list: 01) Loop De Loop 02) Susie Cincinnati 03) San Miguel 04) H.E.L.P. Is On The Way 05) Take A Load Off Your Feet 06) Carnival 07) I Just Got My Pay 08) Good Time 09) Big Sur 10) Lady 11) When Girls Get Together 12) Lookin' At Tomorrow
Some boots add the Desper mix of "Til I Die" (or a medley of a rough, half-finished mix and the Desper mix) onto the end of the album... according to the liners on the version I bought, this song wasn't part of the album at all.

Is there any given reason why most of that album hasn't leaked?? (At least, out of the tracklist on Andrew's site.) We have "Battle Hymn" and, I THINK, "Ding Dang"/"Rollin' Up To Heaven" is from that timeperiod... but all of the other songs are MIA.
It just seems strange to me when (as far as I can tell) not only has every single other unreleased album leaked in its entirety, but we have loads of session material from every Beach Boys album.

I've noticed when compiling my anal-retentive Beach Boys discography that Bellagio's "The Ones That Got Away" page (which was, indeed, a huge assistance) is missing a few entries, so I decided to start from scratch. These are the unreleased Beach Boys-related albums, or scrapped album ideas, I'm aware of... perhaps someone might know of others?
* Beach Boys - two shows (afternoon/evening) recorded at Michigan State for a possible live album (1966)
* Beach Boys - Smile (1967... even though this is hardly 'unreleased' now that we officially have it)
* Beach Boys - Lei'd In Hawaii (a fake studio-recorded 'live' album, after two live recordings were scrapped) (1967)
* Stephen John Kalinich and Brian Wilson - A World Of Peace Must Come (1969... no longer unreleased - released in 2008)
* Beach Boys - Reverberation (or) The Fading Rock Group Revival (final Capitol album, essential prototype for "Sunflower") (1969)
* Beach Boys - Sun Flower (unfinished first line-up, almost entirely different from "Sunflower" LP) (1970)
* Beach Boys - Add Some Music (completed LP, rejected by Reprise and revised as "Sunflower") (1970)
* Beach Boys - Landlocked (unofficial title - compilation of "Sunflower" outtakes) (1970)
* The Flame (including Ricky and Blondie) - untitled second Brother LP (1971)
* Dennis Wilson - Poops (or) Hubba Hubba (1972)
* Beach Boys - 'Caribou Album' (unfinished and largely unbootlegged LP, save for 'Battle Hymn' and dirty 'Ding Dang') (1974)
* Beach Boys and Chicago - live album from collaborative tour (1975)
* Beach Boys - 'New Album' (true title unknown, followup to "15 Big Ones") (1976)
* Beach Boys - Adult/Child (1977)
* Beach Boys - Merry Christmas From The Beach Boys (1977)
* The Rutles (including Ricky Fataar) - 'Sweet Rutle Tracks' (bootleg title, demo LP of possible soundtrack inclusions) (1977)
* Dennis Wilson - Bambu (1978... officially released in 2008)
* Beach Boys - California Feeling (prototype for "M.I.U.") (1978)
* Beach Boys - Winds Of Change (not unreleased per se, rearranged and retitled "M.I.U.") (1978)
* Jan and Dean with Mike Love - Deadman's Curve (soundtrack, worked into J&D's "Silver Summer" album) (1978)
* Mike Love and Celebration - Disco Celebration (1979... technically released in EXTREMELY limited quantities)
* Mike Love - First Love (1979)
* Mike Love - Country Love (1979)
* Beach Boys (or) Mike Love and Al Jardine - unrecorded ecological concept album (1980)
* Adrian Baker with Mike Love - A Baker's Dozen (bootleg title only??) (1982)
* Beach Boys - live recording from Cleveland considered for release (1982)
* Beach Boys - Cousins, Friends and Brothers (speculative title, never actually recorded) (1982)
* Brian Wilson - 'The Wilson Project' (aborted album sessions with Gary Usher) (1987)
* Brian Wilson - Brian (first attempt at a second solo LP) (1990)
* Brian Wilson - Sweet Insanity (revised version of "Brian") (1991)
* Beach Boys? / Mike Love? - Unplugged In Paradise (strictly an idea, never recorded) (1993)
* Brian Wilson - 'Soul Searchin'' (bootleg title - aborted sessions with Andy Paley) (1996)
* Beach Boys and others - Stars and Stripes Vol. 2 (late 1990's)
* Blondie Chaplin - Fragile Thread (1999)
* Al Jardine - untitled solo album (1999)
* Al Jardine - Big South (2001)
* Mike Love - Mike Love Not War (or) Unleash The Love (2005)

I would LOVE to get a copy of this... strictly to hear the fake stuff! :-P
Unlike the Beatles (the undisputed kings of outfakes), there's not really much out there in terms of fake Beach Boys stuff - outside of this CD, I can only think of "Grin", that "Someone's Got A Birthday" song, and "Here Come De Honey Man."
