i have no use for these greatest hits packages.  Luckily I don't have the completist mindset ha.  50 Big Ones is definitely something I'll pass on too, just getting the single on itunes will be good enough for me.  Hopefully the real boxset is where we'll get the good stuff.

I'm curious if anyone has noticed Mark's stamp on the new stereo mixes?  Like on TSS Heroes and Villains how the background vocals come in louder than the original mix, or how Mike's bass part on the "children were raised" was also brought higher in the mix?  Should be noted that I mostly enjoy those two additions.  Were those even a Linett thing?

Today, SDSN and SS will certainly be day 1 purchases.  The rest? Eventually.

it's definitely a weeeird weird choice to exclude Wild Honey and Friends.  I'll assume they'll be coming soon.

well hopefully if these get an international release, the issues get fixed.  Or at least, someone else gets a pass at them.  Though Linett has done great work, sometimes I do sense a bit of rush.  Particularly in Disc 1 of TSS

Not the most surprising thing I've seen today.

here's the quote from Brian's FB

"If I was on an island, just for melody, I would take albums by the Stones, AC/DC and the Beach Boys' Smiley Smile." - Steven Tyler

scott speedman is not near the caliber of actor Eckhart was, or the rest of the cast for that matter.

Everybody should follow up on this post and check out the music mentioned in this in it. Japanese rock music from the mid 70s to the early 80s betrays a prominent Beach Boys influence. Van Dyke Parks produced the original band Hosono was in, Happy End, and he was a big fan of exotica music. Another member of Happy End was this producer and songwriter Eiichi Otaki. He's absolutely wonderful, and his album A Long Vacation from 1980 features genuine Beach Boys wall of sound type production and a cameo from Fun, Fun, Fun. It's sort of weird sh*t, and is hard to track down, but it's a special pleasure for long time Beach Boys fans, and is incredibly infectious.

betrays?

Anyway, that yellow magic song is money.

i'd be curious how they would release that stuff here in the states.  Would they be ok with releasing some of these albums on their own?  The two-fers was such a good deal, and since those are still readily available, would anybody new by these, even if they had stereo?

i don't think phil is saying anything outwardly bad at the moment.

anyway, i'm pretty confident these will come stateside at some point.   So i'm not gonna be shilling out hundreds of dollars for them. i will just be patient.

hearing these Today and Summer Days tracks in stereo is too much for me...I know some people think it's blasphemous, but i've pretty much always preferred the official stereo mixes to the mono.  Just makes the sound a lil more modern.
98  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: July 25, 2012, 08:53:12 PM

My knowledge of the matter is minimal. But, from watching clips alone, I can't see what's so bad about the dude singing
DWB. It's no Foskett at the Kingdome 83, but it aint terrible either. Maybe it's his vocal improvisations near
the end, that it make it so objectionable. I could see that...

It sounds like a cat being swung around the room by it's testicles

dang it, i'm in a library, people are trying to study. don't make me laugh like that again.
