I actually like fun too.  Listen to some of their music, they clearly have a songwriter who likes being adventurous and writing good hooks. I wouldn't be surprised if they put out a great album someday.
The dude has already, it's called Dog Problems by The Format though~

I mean like musically important.  I think this last album has 4-5 of my fav tracks from him.  But I hope he keeps pushing his music styles.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcOJu0g8dbw this one is the worst, this is Liam's solo project and this song sounds almost exactly like Instant Karma.

which is why i suspect it was never on any Oasis albums.  Btw that album isn't a Liam solo project, he wrote 4-5 tracks, the rest of the band had theirs too.  The Roller isn't a gallagher song.  Odd thing about that album is Liam's songs are far and ahead the best tracks on it.  The rest of the band brought tracks like the roller *shudder*
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: November 13, 2012, 12:59:17 PM
if i take the best oasis albums (ie the first 2), i really don't hear anything overly beatles in them than any other british band of the 90s.  actually i think that continues through out their career.  Yeah the have beatles-y moments, and they're open with their obsessions, but i don't think the gallagher's were just a beatles rip.

At the risk of moving this thread further off topic:

Somebody a page or so ago mentioned being a fan of the 'SOTSOG' era of Oasis.

I'd say that this is probably my favourite Oasis era; not necessarily for the songs themselves (although my favourite Oasis song(s) may just be Roll It Over and Let's All Make Believe), but I love the eerie production they were going for at that time.  I didn't really enjoy any Oasis albums after that, despite being a huge fan of theirs in my youth (like a few others here).

Saw them live at the old Wembley stadium during that FTM tour.  It was the Saturday, July 2000 (the live album I think was taken from the Friday night if I recall correctly) - my first ever gig.  Saw them again in summer 2005 I think at Milton Keynes, which was also the same summer as my first ever BW show (in Brighton).  My interest in Oasis was beginning to wane at that point.

Haven't bought Noel or Beady Eye's albums, although I heard the latter's lead single on the radio at the time it was released and thought it was alright.  Heard a fair bit of Noel's stuff as well; it definitely sounds like classic Noel, but I'm unsure if this is a good thing or not.

Yeah Noel's album is classic Noel.  Though some of them, particularly "everybody's on the run" would have been absolutely killer with Liam's voice.  That song would have been a classic Oasis song.  Noel is still great on his own, and beady eye has their moments, but together it's obvious how much better it'd be.

14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Is Little Saint Nick underrated? Of course you silly elf! on: November 08, 2012, 03:50:39 AM
traditional newguy thread.

"is *insert song title* liked?"
"I've been listening to this song and it's great!  You guys NEVER talk about it!"

I'm not sure it's underrated either.  Any christmas song that makes it into the christmas music canon from a pop/rock band is hard to call underrated.

The group of Surfer Girl, Surfer Moon, Catch a Wave, Hawaii, In My Room and definitely Your Summer Dream are just too much for LDC.  Also big on Our Car Club, but that's on both.

19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Tony Visconti On Wild Honey on: October 31, 2012, 08:52:46 PM
this was robert christgau's review on the album for the curious

Wild Honey [Capitol, 1967]
It feels weird to call this a great record--it's so slight. But it's perfect and full of pleasure; it does what it sets out to do almost without a bad second (except for "Let the Wind Blow," each of the 11 tunes--total time: 23:54--ends before you wish it would). And what does it set out to do? To convey the troubled innocence of the Beach Boys through a time of attractive but perilous psychedelic sturm und drang. Its method is whimsy, candor, and carefully modulated amateurishness, all of which comes through as humor. Tell me, what other pop seer was inspired enough to cover a Stevie Wonder song in 1967? A+

A lot of Carl's lead vocals.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 50 Big Ones (Remixes?) on: October 25, 2012, 07:57:24 PM
some of the stereo mixes/remasters are pretty narrow for stereo.  Like Linett was going for a stereo mix circa 1965.  PLMW on Summer Love Songs was a lot wider I thought.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: One Year On [Nearly] - The SMiLE Sessions - Thoughts on: October 25, 2012, 09:05:01 AM
I want a disc 1 mono/stereo remaster!
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: October 21, 2012, 04:46:38 AM
I kinda think Linett made these stereo in a 1960s sense.  I feel like the Please Let Me Wonder stereo mix on summer love songs is a lot wider than the remaster.  But then again Kiss Me Baby remaster is super wide and sounds great.  I think that's where the difference is between the Pet Sounds stereo and the remasters for Today.  PS was given a more modern stereo, while Today is a stereo mix of the 60s.

And yeah I agree SDSN is hit or miss, but I'm probably just so enthused with the Let Him Run remaster, much better than the Warmth of the Sun Mix.

Also, the mono remasters are killer too.  PLMW has never sounded so clear in mono.

tree and surfer girl.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: October 19, 2012, 01:41:59 PM
Cool, thanks.  I'll eventually get them all -- as originally planned -- but I was just so blown away by Today and Smiley that I'm going to have to accelerate that initiative.  Especially while they're still 9.99 at the Best Buy.

So...I guess it don't matter which I get...they're all good?

I dunno why you didn't get sdsn yet!  The others sound like they're remastered, ie great, but sdsn is in stereo!!!  I love it.  And the mono remasters are also great.
