One thing that ticks me off is people quoting from the setlist site (not Eric 's wonderful one) because almost all the old shows they list were copied from the research Andrew and I did for bellagio over the years. Only difference is that when we find an error at bellagio we update it while those other sites that copied us just keep the old errors we've corrected. What I'm saying is that the only accurate source of such info is the gigs and sessions section of bellagio hosted by esq and compiled by Andrew and I with help and input from friends like c man and bgas
Thanks for the compliment on my site, although it is in major need of updating. I do plan to do a major update at some point. SetlIist.fm is cool in a way, but it's the Wikipedia of setlists. Anyone can contribute and change and edit at will, and with that comes a lot of uncertainty. Part of what takes so long when I post setlists on the archive is that I check to see if things make sense in context, and I try not to post "from memory" setlists unless they are from eras that are underrepresented, and I'll always make a note of it. Undoubtedly, there are still inaccuracies on my site, but I'd like to think the quality control I implemented over the years made a difference!

For some reason, it feels like an eternity ago for me, rather than the year seemingly going by fast. I did listen to this heavily last summer and fall, particularly on hikes.
I'd agree with the person who said that they skip "Our Special Love" and "The Last Song". Those are definitely my least favorite tracks by far. The tracks I enjoy the most are "Whatever Happened", "Tell Me Why", "The Right Time", "Saturday Night" and my absolute favorite "I'm Feeling Sad".

Almost Summer and Cruisin were on the Almost Summer soundtrack.
On this LP, I've always enjoyed She's Just Out To Get You, probably Mike's most spirited lead vocal ever! And Song Of Creation is great. Could have been a hit if done by a more well known group.
Country Pie is a bit grating to my ears. Gettin Hungry is good, definitely different than the original, but perhaps a minute too long and drags toward the end.

Interesting he chose a group photo without Alan......
I can see that being interpreted either way. It could be a group-politics-motivated decision, or they may have just been looking to use one of those early-era pictures that evoke the band's earliest days. A lot of books and articles use those early Al-less shots. Until it was mentioned here, the early BB photo on the cover, with Dave and thus sans Al, never occurred to me to be a slight toward Al. I saw/see it as representing the span of time from the early BBs (in photos) to ML today in the top photo. I'm totally looking forward to Mike's book, as I am Brian's. Wonder to what extent Mike realizes that the reality is that there is no way Brian is going to come across poorly in his forthcoming autobio, while it's up to Mike to show some humidly and counterbalance his braggadocio concerning the biggest hits by also focusing on being the guy who wrote the lyrics to stuff like The Warmth of the Sun and Please Let Me Wonder, rather than continually harping on the success of Kokomo. (And Kokomo is a song I love, btw. Initially I was going to mention Mike's cringeworthy Summer of Love "It'a a Love Thing", but BW has written some cringeworthy stuff too.) Al's absence occurred to me immediately upon viewing the cover photo in the wee hours of last night when it was posted on Mike's Facebook fan page (I had insomnia). While I think that things between Mike & Al have definitely improved over the 1998-2010 period, I still don't observe them to be close friends at this point. I alluded to this in my post earlier in this thread (although not directly). HeyJude made some great points as well earlier in the thread...Mike, from 1998-2013, has, whether purposely or not, mentioned Al very little in his interviews, and at times seemed more than willing to write minimize his contribution to BB history. He has mentioned him a bit more often in the last 3 years, and has some complimentary things to say about Al's voice, and has mentioned that he has spoken to him, so things seemed to have thawed out a little bit. But I would stop short of saying that they are good friends. Even during the C50 tour and the concurrent and subsequent CD releases, Al seemed to take a distant 3rd place in importance when it came to track selection for 50 Big Ones and Live - The 50th Anniversary tour. Look at Disc 1 of 50 Big Ones and who sings lead on the different songs. Also look at what songs got cut from Live - The 50th Anniversary Tour, and what stayed. Brian and Mike were prominently featured, while Al was featured about as much as Bruce & Dave, although he sang significantly more leads than both. That said, I look forward to any upcoming books, shows, and studio/live releases coming from any and all Beach Boys! I'm grateful to have the Beach Boys that remain, and I welcome any output they give to us!

I can identify only 9 songs from 1962-1985 that have the following characteristics:
- One Lead Singer - No Harmony vocals by others (double or multi tracking the lead vocal is allowed) - No background harmonies, counter melodies, oohhs, ahhs, etc. (not even the slightest additional vocals other than the lead singer are allowed) Oddly, all of the songs I can identify are from the 1960's and only the Wilson brothers get the spotlight. Please correct me if I have forgotten anything or made a mistake:
Your Summer Dream, 1963, Brian In the Back of My Mind, 1965, Dennis Girl Don't Tell Me, 1965, Carl Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder), 1966, Brian Caroline, No, 1966, Brian I'd Love Just Once to See You, 1967, Brian How She Boogalooed It, 1967, Carl Be Still, 1968, Dennis Busy Doin' Nothing, 1968, Brian

The rarest Beach Boys song is a good SiP song. Haha. Or... a song with a spoken section. There can't be too many of those. That's excluding studio instructions, informal chat and "talk tracks" (and that awful business at the start of "TM Song")... - Lonely Sea (Brian) - Finders Keepers (Mike) - Drive-In (Mike) - The Little Girl I Once Knew (Mike) - She's Goin' Bald (Brian and Mike) - Busy Doin' Nothin' (Brian) - At My Window (Brian) - Games Two Can Play (Brian) - Santa Ana Winds (Alan)* - The Beaks Of Eagles (Alan and Mike)* - Summertime Blues (Mike)* H'mm. More than I thought! Do any others come to mind? Edit: now including contributions by other posters*... Child Of Winter

I'm sure the article is just looking to the one full-blown PS tour in the US in 2000 and ignoring the subsequent international legs and shorter US excursions (2006/2007 amounted to about 9 shows, and they did PS twice I believe on the 2013 tour). "First time in 17 years!" sounds better. I suppose "first extensive US PS tour in 17 years" would be technically accurate.
...yes, except 2000 was 16 years ago.

From the article:
"The 2016 tour will be the first time Pet Sounds will be played in its entirety on stage in 17 years. When Pet Sounds was released in 1966, "We didn't play it on stage," Wilson says, describing the record as, "an album that started out with 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' and just went from there."
*** Was the Winter 2007 Pet Sounds tour just my imagination then?
And didn't it get played once or twice more recently, I think maybe during the Jeff Beck tour? Oh yeah! I forgot about that!

I actually like hearing Cool Head Warm Heart, but I do sense the audience getting restless when they play it. I am pretty neutral on Pisces Brothers, but I'm thinking that this shouldn't be a permanent staple. Audiences seem to appreciate it, but its appeal may wear thin if played year after yearwith the same video tribute.

Yeah, there is no reason to think he's saying the vox only is new to the new box. "There is a box set they put out several years ago, and they're getting ready to do another one, which is the 50th anniversary of Pet Sounds, um, where it's just a CD of just the vocals. It's a multiple CD set, and it has just the vocals on this one CD." (15:23)
The mention of the new set is more an aside. His comment about the vocals-only disc is referring back to the old box.
Agreed.
