76  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian's Home Demos? on: October 13, 2011, 05:44:59 PM
So where are all of Brian's home demos from the Smile period?Huh There seems to be demo-like songs scattered throughout their history, from Brian's early personal tapes with Spanish Assignments etc (heard on the PreHistory boots), the demos with Gary Usher, the piano demo of Don't Talk on the PS Box, and of course the later 70's songs like Still I Dream Of It, and then the Cocaine Sessions. It's always seemed to me that he probably recorded home demos of the Smile tracks with just the piano..... They must just be lost?? I mean I'm sure they would have turned up on the new Box, its just something that has always driven me crazy. I remember reading somewhere about someone (I think it was a photographer) housesitting for Brian in the late 60's and saying that he had tapes lying around everywhere..... I'm sure they're just lost, but I'd love to hear any other stories about this if anyone has them....

Wow, pretty disappointing. Just one Steve Fataar song on there "Is It You." Love the Flame album, was hoping there would be more songs from them out there.  Haven't tracked down all of the Flames albums yet, not as excited to do so now.... So no info on that follow up album? Fictional? Actually recorded?

Aside from the 1970 Brother LP, can someone inform me of any other original Fataar family or Blondie compositions on the earlier Flames LPs? Lots of covers I know, but I was wondering if there were any originals.... Also would love to hear any information on an unreleased follow up album later in the 70s? The Allmusic bio mentions it, wasn't sure if this was accurate...

Could someone Please Make my day with this one? Have never heard of this tape and its hard to find much info on how involved Brian was with the project (from what I can tell, not as much as I had previously thought).

that is indeed the SMiLE font. and it is indeed EXCiTiNG!!!

also... "Little Pad" and "Tones" are way too similar to be unrelated.

...well, they both include slide guitar, however the chords, melody, and structure of the song are completely different, so I'd guess that they're pretty much unrelated.

The tag to Cabin Essence is easily my favorite recorded Beach Boys moment, and possibly my favorite recorded moment of all time.  It reduces me to tears every time I hear it, and I'm one jaded dude.
Like I said before hearing the sessions is amazing too. The song that gets me all the time is the Slow version of Till I Die, Brian Wilson soul in a song

Are you referring to the alternate Desper "long version"?

What a bombshell that would be, but I'm with Ebb and Flow here - if true, I can't imagine that such news wouldn't be conveyed by someone like Alan Boyd, or that we wouldn't hear a thing about it for several years after it actually occurred.
Then again no one (until Al) had spilled the beans about this whole summer Capitol Smile album until now, so you never know..... But I have a feeling that this isn't the case.

Also, I thought that there was a possibility that the film was possibly found with Directors notes, but that the audio was most likely gone, making the found film statement correct but a whole lot less exciting.
83  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Hand written letters fron Brian up for auction on: June 02, 2010, 10:55:20 PM
Well, it looks to me like the letter on the right is in Blue pen, and the one on the left is in Black.  Also if you look closely at the letter on the left marked 2, you can see the writing showing through from the flip side.  So IMO, two different letters.  Take that for what its worth. Not sure if everyone already implied that....

Anyone have any more info on this?  What a "striped down set" might mean? Will he be playing songs with Dave Alvin, or will Dave just be playing his own set?

The one real change in IJGMP, aside from the lyrics, is the intro.  The "dit-dit-dit" intro is gone, later to be reworked (as Leaf points out) as the "ooooooooooooh Goin' on" intro in Goin' On.

You forgot to mention that between ADUFS and Goin' On, that particular vocal harmony chord progression was recycled during SMiLE as "Bridge To Indians".

Which part is that "Bridge to Indians"? I have never heard that description...

Sorry to dig up an old topic, but I'm just going through and reading al the old threads.  I found this same Goin' On/Bridge To Indians progression on the Light Album (i think) outtake Why Didn't I Tell You.  Anyone have any info on this song?
