26  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: I Believe in Miracles and Can't Wait Too Long on: November 08, 2018, 12:35:15 PM
Been rebuilding my BBs mix from the ground up since losing a hard drive and am once again obsessed with this Can't Wait Too Long snippet described in this thread.  However, the Archaeology track that I've found cuts out for a fraction of a second at 0:11.... Does anyone else have a copy without the glitch?  I can't remember if the cut out was always there when I've listened to the track in the past....The Linnet version on Secret Smile has no bass at all, so I'd love to find a glitchless copy of the Archaeology version!

Other websites say that the single came out in ’65 (http://www.45cat.com/record/us-x847559), so not sure how likely that is to end up on this year’s compilation.

Wow, did not know this. Always had it in my Master Mix as a 1968 anomaly...

The other track on the 45:

The AFM contract # 106707 for "Baby What You Want Me To Do" (aka "Peep And Hide") states:

date: August 17, 1964
musicians: Tommy Morgan, Hal Blaine, Tommy Tedesco, William Pitman
producers: Brian Wilson, Bob Norberg
session leader: Hal Blaine

The  credit for the Twelve-0-Four side says production and writing by Bob Norberg. Can't find an image of Baby What You Want Me To Do.

Oh really? I was going off of this old link: https://www.surfermoon.com/essays/bwprods.html

What are the odds we could get these if Brian was only a performer and not the producer of the session?

Did anyone mention the Bob & Bobby tracks "Twelve-O-Four" and "Baby What You Want Me To Do" for their wish list yet? These are 1968 BW productions correct? Would like to have clean mixes of these.
30  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / General Copyright Extension Question on: October 16, 2018, 04:03:12 PM
If these releases are intended to extend the copyright of these songs, what's to stop me from HYPOTHETICALLY pressing up an album that featured something like "Visions" a track not released on any of these? I don't have the time or money to do anything like that. This is purely something I was just curious about.

Ughhhhhh..... I was waiting until today to listen to this!!!!! Fans are insanely lucky to have access to these videos. I'm extremely disappointed.
32  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Standard Lie #1 - Dennis Co-write? on: October 05, 2018, 01:06:41 PM
Ah, that would make sense! Disregard then!

Not seeing anything online about the other Dennis. Active in the 70's I'm assuming.
33  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Standard Lie #1 - Dennis Co-write? on: October 05, 2018, 12:34:27 PM
Someone linked to Dennis'  ASCAP page in another thread and I found this title "Standard Lie #1" listed as a 50% co-write with Stella Parton (Dolly's sister).  Anyone know anything else about this? Doesn't have any of Dennis' songwriting earmarks to me at least....

A decent quality version of the Awake demo would be worth the price of admission alone

Say wha? When did this start making the rounds? You could really top yourself if you posted a clean Carry Me Home!   Smiley
35  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: photos of the Wild Honey stained glass window?? on: March 17, 2016, 12:59:19 PM
Thought I'd take another shot at this... Anyone have a picture of the full glass? My Dad is a stained glass artist and is making a replica for me. Can almost patch together the whole design between the Cover, Chair pic, and Rovell pic. I'd love to know what color the flower is on the lower right and also see if there is anything above where the album is cropped. Thanks!

A+++++ Craig!!!!!!!!! Great read! Does an a cappella mix of this song exist that includes the harmonies during the verse?? Possibly my favorite vocals ever from the Boys. The only version I've heard is missing these.
37  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Time To Get Alone - I want to know everything! on: June 25, 2015, 07:49:29 PM
Pages 126-129 of Priore's book feature Danny Huttons recollections about the song. Specifically his contribution of the multiple keyboard production. He also mentions that Brian called in the string section. It also features a quote by VDP who says that Danny "did the layering on that one, and Brian approved." I'm assuming he meant the vocal arrangement. The book paints the song as a true collaboration between Brian and Danny (at least Redwood version, which the BBs version is built on of course). Not trying to diminish Brian's involvement, just adding some more info that is out there.
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Time To Get Alone - I want to know everything! on: June 25, 2015, 04:54:06 PM
I don't have the book in front of me, but I believe Priore's Smile book had a section on this song. Maybe someone can find the quotes. Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember reading that the distinctive call and response piano/harpsichord(?) production flourish in the verse was the idea of Danny Hutton?? Not saying as a co-writer, talking specifically about the keys sounds. It's truly one of my all time favorite songs as well, and i love it no matter who came up with that idea, such an amazing sound!!!!
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unknown Instrumental - Friends on: June 02, 2015, 07:12:36 PM
I actually started this awhile back. I'll take a look for it and see if it's worth posting.

Cool! I'm a fan of your other mixes! Interesting to see I'm not the only one to make the connection, I hadn't seen it mentioned before.
40  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Unknown Instrumental - Friends on: June 02, 2015, 06:14:12 PM
This is the piece with what sounds like taped piano strings... I've seen it mentioned as a Friends OR 20/20 outtake, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways, I was driving in the car yesterday and when the song came on, I spontaneously started singing the verse to Time To Get Alone on top of it... It seemed like a strange revelation... Can anyone tell me if its even possible that this could be an attempt at  an alternate TTGA? Or maybe someone with some audio skills and 15 minutes could splice it together so that you can hear what I'm hearing? It sounds like the same chords and roughly same tempo, and the right hand melody definitely conceals the similarity...
41  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - \ on: October 28, 2014, 12:33:19 PM
FWIW I bought the track on amazon. When I imported it into iTunes, it lists the composer as solely "Joe Thomas"....
42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alex Chilton and Brian on: July 11, 2014, 06:26:13 PM
There's one version of a Box Tops Greatest Hits (which I've seen used in most record stores) that features liner notes on the back recalling Alex's story of sharing a bed with Brian, Dennis, and Charlie (iirc) as well as a line about how Brian once called Alex in the middle of the night later in the 70s ask him to come straight to LA so that Brian could produce an LP for him... Always wondered why they'd include those anecdotes on a Box Tops greatest hits but there they are... I'll take a pic next time I see it.

I love the background harmony blend of Brian/Al/Blondie/Matt ; sounds brilliant to me.

This sounds amazing.
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson album update in Rolling Stone on: June 10, 2014, 10:55:45 PM
Give me a "Deluxe Edition" with the "original versions" of the duet tracks and I'll be stoked. Michael Jackson's most recent album had this, with an original version of the track without Justin Timberlake. I know it's different since the released version was remixed and reworked by Timbaland. But it got me hoping that they could do a similar thing here. Sorry for the alarmist post the other day! If Brian is actually bummed about comments like mine, that sucks. But this is a place for hardcore obsessives, and if I can't whine and moan about Joe Thomas and my suspicions about his dubious influence here, then where can I???  Huh Smiley

Dear. God. No.......... I truly admire the folks on here who are willing to give this all a chance... But let's be real... This is terrible news...

Let's be real...  this is pure prejudice.

Hate to get so negative, but I'm sorry this is like my worst nightmare. Dream album: Brian, Mark Linnet, and the wondermints

So your worst nightmare is Brian working with a bunch of younger artists who are fans of his...  but your dream is for him to work with Wondermints.

Check, please,
Jon Blum

Sorry, had a few drinks when I first posted. I think somewhere in that mess of a post I wrote "not my taste" so I guess it is just my own prejudice in a way. As far as the wondermints/Linnet comment I guess I just meant that I'd love a home grown TLOS type album one more time. And yes, my worst nightmare is DEFINITELY Brian working with a bunch of you get artists (esp LDR and FO who are not even in the same musical universe as BW stylistically). I mean hey, maybe Lil Wayne is a Beach Boys fan, might as well get him on there too. This isn't like the idea of a High Llamas collaboration, it's something else. Anyways, just my taste. I don't like olives on my pizza either, but that's just me.

Dear. God. No.......... I truly admire the folks on here who are willing to give this all a chance... But let's be real... This is terrible news... All we all really want is one more album of Brian Wilson... That's why we're here... With the way the record industry works, I don't see how anyone realistically thinks we're getting "3 albums" any time soon. Whether we'd like to admit it or not, this may be one of the last albums we get from Brian. After having to sit through the Disney and Gershwin albums, despite their brilliant moments, it is truly disappointing to discover we could be getting another album with an "angle." this is clearly not going to be BW's final opus. It's the Joe Thomas show, let's be honest. Anyone who thinks we're getting something like the Carole King version of Good Kind Of Love better not hold their breath. Get ready for a new kind of bad.... There will be attempts at modern radio production that make TWGMTR's autotune pale in comparison. Someone said Twilight Zone. This is not good. They would not be calling in these artists for background vocals. There is a specific goal in mind here....I'm sure there will be a few great moments musically, but I'm literally cringing imagining the singers involved. One of the things that still blows me away about the BBs is the honestly in their delivery. Do we all know what the term "affectation" refers to? Zooey, Lana Del Rey, maybe you guys aren't familiar with these artists... Maybe I'll be proven wrong... It's Grammy bait, it's lame, it's cheese, it's disappointing. I'm bummed. Hate to get so negative, but I'm sorry this is like my worst nightmare. Dream album: Brian, Mark Linnet, and the wondermints plus Justyn Wilson and Al and Matt Jardine on BG vox doing the Life Suite.... Nightmare Album: Joe Thomas at the boards with his straight out of the 90s drum sounds COWRITING a duets album with a bunch of singers that I don't care about at all. Argh. Duets?! I mean Brian would be thrilled at a hit album, but it's just not my taste. And I just don't see it really being his baby. And I know it's not written in stone that it's a duets album, but trust me, they wouldn't be calling in these artist if it weren't for a Santana style grab at Grammy.
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Questions for Blondie Chaplin on: March 26, 2014, 09:28:58 PM
1) How did you meet David Johansen? Did you ever see the New York Dolls perform? What is the story behind the album "Here Comes The Night"?
2) Do you keep in contact with Ricky at all? The songs you wrote together for The Beach Boys were incredible, is there a chance you would write with him again?
3) are there any songs you wrote with Ricky/any of the BBs besides Carry Me Home, Hard Times and the studio version of We Got Love that remain unreleased?
4) Have you had the opportunity to listen to any of the material from the second Flame album since you recorded it? How would you compare it to the first Flame album that you recorded for Brother?

Thanks!!!
48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Place to Ask the Bedroom Tapes Author Your Questions on: March 10, 2014, 07:05:27 PM
Question for the author, since I couldn't get a response in another thread:

Regarding "Our Happy Home" and  "You're As Cool As Can Be," do either of these titles refer to the track "Unknown Instrumental (Rehearsals)" on Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 20 - Friends, 20/20, and Odds & Ends??? The description in the article of Happy Home could apply to this track...

Or perhaps someone on the board has another title for this short instrumental...
49  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Place to Ask the Bedroom Tapes Author Your Questions on: March 09, 2014, 12:09:13 AM
Can the author give any titles regarding the 1968 songs mentioned here: "Note: A few additional tracks from this era have been recently discovered, but not heard by this author." ?

Surprised no one has mentioned this at all!!!

50  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson's Secret Bedroom Tapes - LA Weekly 1-30-14 on: March 09, 2014, 12:06:14 AM
Perhaps I should post this in the "ask the author" thread, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if "Our Happy Home" was actually the track "Untitled Instrumental - rehersals" from "Unsurpassed Masters 20 (1968-1969) Friends, 20/20, Odds and Ends" ??
