1  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Ghost of Christmas (Bennett) - Chords? on: December 03, 2012, 12:52:18 PM
Hi,

the song is still stuck in my head. Does anyone of you happened to know the basic-chords Scotty is using here?
I have always problems to get them right. I used to be a Bass-Player, so Iīve always just focussed in "hearing" Bass-Notes and the Melody (means, I can hear a melody and play it on my piano) but I always have problems finding the right chords.

Can some nice person help me out?

Just to give you an example. When I start with the chorus (letīs say Iīd start with C) Iīd pick those chords
C/A-Minor/D-Minor/G
C/A-Minor/F/E-Minor (Iīll take mine on the rocks...)

hmm.... ?

Hi Boys Smiley,

I was just wondering - did anyone of you ever play "Go away boy"? The song has such a simple, sweet melody and I just play it with a simple, suiting chord-progression but I am sure that itīs incorrect (or not even close to the original)

Because I always start just with an "C (Go away boy", A-Minor (you remind me ...) Fm- G
Bridge I used a: D-Minor-G-EM-A?

Itīs suitable to the melody but not correct. So does anyone of you have the correct chords? I am not very good in hearing the right chords, I can find out the meldoy of a song (or the Bass line, because I played Bass for over a decate) but I am awful with chords Smiley

I would appreciate any help

Martin

So, who will do "I loves you Porgy"... need this one and my ears are not good enough to get it right Sad

"Clang of The Yankee Reaper" is the only album of VDP which is "easy to follow"... all the other oneīs are more or less avantguard. I totally LOVE Song Cycle. But the VDP Album I really love the most is "Live at the Ash grove". Wow, he is playing and singing so wonderful and the setlist is brilliant.

And I heard that they wanted to do an Irish Folk Album too. First Single: "I canīt remember why Iīm drinking to forget"...

Hi - yeah, it is said that a bad mix can ruin the whole song. The funny thing is, when you listen to a song with bad mix with your headphones, it sounds fantastic. But listen to a song with bad mix with your lousy PC Boxes or in a car - the song can sound completely wrong. Acutally this problem does occure to many people - the more techniqe you use, the easier it is to make a song unlistenable Smiley.

So, I am blown away by your voice. May I ask you, what do you use for recording?
7  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: \ on: August 29, 2010, 01:00:48 PM
OK Luther Smiley. I was thinking about writing new lyrics for it, somthing that doesnīt have anything to do with the Beach Boys Smiley: I thought it was funny to use quotes from other Beach Boys Songs but it COULD be, that I have misjudged it Smiley. I didnīt want to write "oh Beach Boys are the best band, you cannot find anything better in the whole land"  (yes, this was a suggestion by someone i asked to help me with the lyrics  Grin)
8  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: The Night Was So Young cover on: August 29, 2010, 12:53:02 PM
Wow, thatīs good.

A friend of mine (btw, he co-wrote a song with Andrew Gold for his upcomming album) has such a little programm/mashine. He just press(es) one button and he can sing in 4-part-harmonis. I thought he have used this as well. Wow, you sound amazing in the choir. I have singing in harmonies as well (with myself) but Iīm always having problem in mixing the harmonies. They ALWAYS sound out of tune. Even when the notes were sung correct, they sound wrong.

The funny thing is - many years ago I used real cheap recording equipment, and I did not had this problem back then. Now I am using "better" stuff and itīs driving me nuts...

Hi Luther,

thank you for listening... oh, bad that you did not like it Sad

I know, many Beach Boys Fans (even myself) donīt really enjoy groups which sound like the Beach Boys or even worth write a Tribute to them. But I am a each Boys Fan. And I had to do this Sad.

WE made a little video as well Sad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhiKIQAQsnA

Hi Luther,

beautiful - the tempo could be a little slower, but you sang it real beautiful, specially the chorus with the choir. Did you sang the vocals yourself or did you have a little programm to help you? Smiley

This is one of my favorite beach boys songs and I know the story behind the song Smiley
11  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / "First American Band" (Vocals by Kayla Williams) on: August 29, 2010, 04:00:40 AM
Hi,

I am proud to introduce a new song to you. “First American Band” is a collaboration of Martin Gotz (Austria), Bernd Oettinger (Germany) and the talented and beautiful singer Kayla Williams (Canada).

I wrote the song back in September 2009 and asked my friend Bernd Oettinger to produce it. After this, I invited Kayla Williams to sing the song - she agreed real soon. So Iīd say, letīs Surf Rock Smiley

Iīm not quiet sure if you are familiar with Kayla Williams. She has such amazing talent and made cover versions of many Beach Boys Songs you can find on youtube.....

First American Band

God only knows how many tunes
Iīve listened to in my room
Songs of endless summer
And the Surfer Moon
Made me cuddle up with a surfer girl
In the Californian sand
I caught a wave while I fell in love to
The rhythm of a steel drum band

Chorus:
The First American Band
From Southern California
A Cousin and a Friend
Along with three brothers
They made their Mamas cry
With every single song
Their story isnīt over
As long as their music plays on

Verse:
Caroline my little girl
Oh, where did your long hair go?
You are no longer the sweet thing
That I used to know
I will pick you up in my 4-0-9
We’ll cruise the hamburger stands
Because, everything is just fine
When they play “Do you wanna dance”

Chorus:
The First American Band
From Southern California
A Cousin and a Friend
Along with three brothers
They made their Mamas cry
With every single song
Their story isnīt over
As long as their music plays on

(Bridge – Instrumental)

(Chorus)

12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian: \ on: August 01, 2010, 01:13:08 AM
If I am not mistaken, Debbie Keil was on this board about a year ago and she brought some light into the Kent-Stories, which were very interessting.
So I wouldnīt believe too much of what Kent wrote. Altough, I heard from an other source that Brian did not like one Song from the album, but Bruce - who was the producer by this time - decided to cut for the record.

Could be Oh Darlin where Bruce changed the tempo, could be "When girls get together", could be "Endless Harmony" as well. Who knows. Maybe we should ask Bruce about it?

Thank you again luther and wirestone Smiley. Uh, I really missed some spots... could be the ear, could be the lack of vocabulary Smiley

Thank you my friends Smiley

First I thought it is "The story is always you",.. hmm... can be both, canīt it....  Brian does not pronounce it very well.... Smiley
14  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: The Like in I Love you, lyrics, chords??? on: July 31, 2010, 12:38:03 PM
Wow, thank you so much Luther. You are too good!!

I always have problems to "hear" the Gershwin Songs. They are crazy, I worked over a week just to get the chords for "Someone to watch over you" and in the end I did not get them right.

A real big and warm thank you man. "When we connect the dots" my gosh. I listened to the song so many times on my Ipod and I always thought he was singing "We we met the dance" and was wondering: "Gosh, this does not make any sence at all"  Grin

So, do you think the lyrics are OK that way - because I am not a native speaker, there is a huge possibility that Iīve mist a spot Smiley

You reached into my heart
And found the music of my soul
The melody unfold (?) for you

Iīve never danced before
Until you asked me
The magic lights lead up the floor

Lighting in the starless sky
Til weīve found the inner light
Now we can duplicate the universe

The pain in painting, the muse in music
The Like in I love you

When you connect the dots
I see your picture coming through
The star is always you

Its more than harmony
When you sing with me
Itīs an entire symphony

Lighting in the starless sky
Til weīve found the inner light
Now we can duplicate the universe

The pain in painting, the muse in music
The Like in I love you
15  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / The Like in I Love you, lyrics, chords??? on: July 31, 2010, 09:38:16 AM
Hello,

I know, this question does not have much to do with the Beach Boys, but I was just wondering... has anyone here already found the chords for "The Like in I love you"? I listened to it several time - I still have problems to "hear" the whole lyric (I cannot find the First line in the 2nd Verse) and from the chord-progression, itīs a typical Gershwin Song... way too complicated for me Smiley

Because Iīd love to make a cover of it, but somehow I am stucked Sad
16  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: \ on: February 20, 2010, 01:48:16 PM
OK, thank ya you two Smiley

Hmm... awfully identical... hmm... thatīs bad man, thatīs way bad... because when Iīm comparring the two melodies just by writing down the sharp notes, they are different.....hmm.. maybe I should go back to the start and do something else Smiley
17  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / "A mid winterīs dream" - Does it sound too much like KOKOMO? on: February 20, 2010, 11:43:42 AM
Hi boys Smiley,

I wrote a new song in December 2009. But  I never recorded it because I was concerned that it sounds too much like KOKOMO. Because the thematic of the song is summer, hawaii and so on. I played it to a friend and he said: "Yes it sounds similar"... I wrote down the sharp notes of both Kokomo and my song and found out, that the melodies of the vocals are different... OK, but the question is,... is it too close?

Luther, what do you think, you are the expert Smiley
Thank you guys!

Martin

Hi Luther,

The Piano is cool and your Voice is really nice. I havenīt expected this Smiley:

I like those harmoies - really cool. The Production is made in a real high quality... what do you use for recordings???

My Song is not finnished yet... The Backing Track is PERFECT but my vocals suck. I asked a friend of mine to sing it - he agreed but I havenīt heard much from him lately...

21  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: Christmas Greetings :) on: December 05, 2009, 08:33:28 AM
Thank you Luther...
yeah, my Co-Producer said the same thing about the Guitar... but I wanted to have it in because I think itīs cool Smiley The first demo had some "woom-poop-duh-wah" and some "hum-bub"... "hum-bub"... and so on... because I wanted to do it in a Beach Boys Style, but then we had to go for something else to get some Webradio-Support ... pöööhhhh Sad... but I like the way it is... Smiley

Thank you for your opinion Luther, means a lot Smiley

22  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Christmas Greetings :) on: December 05, 2009, 07:13:18 AM
Hello Folks,

itīs christmas time isnīt it Smiley. And for this reason we - "The Back Country Connection" - has created the Christmas Song "Snowflakes on the Mountain".... 10 Singers share the lead vocals on this tune. I would be really glad if you could have a listen to it. The song has already some Webradio-Cover and is available at ITunes and stuff Smiley

The Genre is Country Rock...so I think....

And here is the LINK

Snowflakes On The Mountain

Verse 1:
Far away from the city
Miles and miles outta town
Snowflakes are falling
They just keep comin' down
Up on the mountain
The snow's gettin' thick
And everywhere you look
It's startin' to stick
Everything stops moving
The whole world's standing still
The snow keeps on falling
In the winter chill

Chorus:
Snowflakes on the mountain
They just keep fallin' down
A white coat of winter
Covers all the ground
The whole wide world is quiet
It's such a wondrous sight
Sparkling in the darkness
A mountain top silent night

Verse 2:
The pine trees are all white
Their branches full of snow
Our little road's covered
But we've no place to go
We'll just stay at home
And sit next to the fire
As the snow keeps falling
And the drifts get higher
We'll pass the night
Cuddled up in the fire's glow
The two of us together
And enjoy the snow

Chorus:
Snowflakes on the mountain
They just keep fallin' down
A white coat of winter
Covers all the ground
The whole wide world is quiet
It's such a wondrous sight
Sparkling in the darkness
A mountain top silent night

Outro:
We want to wish you a Merry Christmas...
...Merry Christmas to all
We want to wish you a Merry Christmas...
...Merry Christmas to all...

Maybe I imagined it but I thought a guy wrote it on page 1... gosh... I should stop drinking the irish milk.. or the water...

By the way - ireland. "Hurrican" Brian hit Ireland by the start of september. The tickets were daylight robbery (250 Bucks) so i didnīt go there.. but I got a nice Video and some pictures...  Grin

25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brianīs new Songs... on: September 25, 2009, 06:32:23 AM
My Gosh, percentage... Scotty also mentioned that Brian wrote the whole songs and most of the lyrics for "Oxygen" and "Mexican Girl"... but they are also mentioned at 50/50 collabs. I say it doesnīt really matter who makes what, both were included so you can share the credit...

But I am wondering know.. .you said that Brian wrote most of the songs in the 70th? Huh? Which one? I only know "California Role" was wirtten in the 1980th but the other ones?

But I am still laughing about Scott telling us how this collaboration started in the first place (if I got it right)... "Brian called me like every day... Hey Scott, you have a home studio, havenīt you..."..."Yes...?"... "Can I come over and record some stuff...?"... .."Well, should I say no?" Grin... so I wonder if it really happened that way...

I like these things... Melinda stated somewhen, over 10-15 years ago (was it in the I just wasnīt made for these times doku?) ... that Brian said: "Hey, I have an idea for a song, letīs go to Andy..." Smiley...

BTW... I asked a question here about Debbie and Debbie answered. I asked a question here about Beach Boys Manager and ... I got a real unexpected email.... So this is a question about LOS, Brian and Scotty.... so just in chase..... ---> jamesdavid_martin@yahoo.ie  Grin
