.so the weakest songs from summer days and summer nights...have to be "Amusement Park U.S.A." or "The Girl from New York City"
Which just goes to show how strong all the tracks on the album are. I'd love to hear a stereo remix of The Girl from New York City.

"California Feelin'" was done much better on Brian Wilson's Classics compilation;
Really? I thought Brian Wilson's Classics comp version was awful. Leaden with a totally uninterested Brian vocal. I thought Al's version is the best version I've heard of the song (and I've heard Late Brian, Rocky Pamplin, Carl and Al sing it).

How many takes of it are circulating? I've heard two versions. One from the special, and another take that breaks down because of coughing.
I've heard that there are two complete takes on the Long Lost Surf Songs 6 without coughing. Brian's vocals are very clear and strong. Apparently. Both are leagues ahead of the filmed take that's in the special.

Sounds like the mics on the audience get switched off during 409
As I wrote earlier...the car medley starting with 409 is lifted directly from the Sirius XM performance. Although the NPR version is mixed better, a quick comparison shows that the performances are one in the same...same guitar licks, same remarks by Al to "Go David go!" That is why the audience drops out--because the Sirius set was taped in a studio with a less exuberant audience in attendance. Sorry, didn't catch it when you said it earlier. That makes a lot of sense.

I'm about 20 mins. in and I think that "Isn't it time" is indeed the studio version with additional overdubs. In fact I think this version is much better. The overdubs make this sound much fuller and Brian Wilson-like. This should be the single version
What's really strange is that the very final sung line right at the end (which I presume is Brian) is live. Sounds like the mics on the audience get switched off during 409

There was an interview somewhere with I think Danny Hutton where he said he kicked out Brian and Landy from his studio during recording for the 1988 album. Something along the lines that why was Brian letting Landy call the shots arrangement wise as Landy clearly had no idea what he was doing.
I also remember reading an interview from somewhere who said if Brian was left to his own devices in the studio, the arrangements would come out sounding like Sweet Insanity, the inference being that the arrangements for Sweet Insanity is how Brian would arrange if he solely produced himself.

I think it must be sort of awkward for Brian that very obviously drugged-out recordings of him doing music exist that fans could easily acquire if they were so inclined, haha. Things like the infamous cocaine/hamburger sessions, "Teardrops On My Bed", or the various clips on Endless Bummer. How does Brian feel about this or does he more than likely not care? This was posted in the Brian's lowest ebb thread and it got me thinking. City Blues from GIOMH is demoed on the Cocaine Session bootleg in pretty much the same form as the finished song. What I'm wondering is, did Brian simply remember the song for GIOMH, or did he listen to an old demo and if he did, I would've thought listening to the Cocaine Session tape would be pretty painful for him. Does another demo of the song exist? Then I wondered did someone else simply transcribe the song for Brian from the Cocaine tape and he went from there? Does anyone know? Also, I really like the song, it's one of the few I think works on GIOMH.
