With special emphasis on Pet Sounds and Good Vibrations. Ugh...lets put emphasis on the REST of the story for a change...we all know and love the PS/GV deal but we've read about it 50 million times.
Funny how with an emphasis on pet sounds and good vibrations the cover of the book is from the Surfin safari photoshoot..

Just as the Four Seasons became Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and the Animals became Eric Burdon and the Animals, so should it have become Mike Love and the Beach Boys.
But you know what? Mike is too humble to put himself forward like that. (Do you know he once met Marlon Brando?)
No cuz he wasnt the sole lead vocalist. Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, Steve Perry, Lou Gramm, Steven Tyler are the lead vocalists in there bands. So that would make sense to name the band with them as top billing. Diana Ross and the Supremes, Gary Puckett and Union Gap, Huey Lewis & The News, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Mike Love & The Beach Boys...? Mmmm not feelin it They should have been Mike Love and the Four Assholes. Hahaha like the four seasons.. The four aces.. The Four Freshmen.. The four assholes! Although I don't think Alan, Brian, Carl & Dennis were assholes

I hate to say it but I like An American Family a little better...
You could easily win that Unpopular Beach Boys Opinions thread. haha ya prolly but C'MON the casting was horrible. The actors who were portraying Al and Bruce are obviously much taller then the actual Al and Bruce. ALSO... the scene on the plane when Brian has his breakdown.. Bruce is in that scene. But wasn't in the band at that time. Dec 23 1964 was the breakdown. Bruce joined april 9 1965. ooh the inaccuracies!!

We were in the dressing room at this fundraiser in New York, and Don Henley and Timothy Schmidt from The Eagles walked in. And Timothy was very nice, but Don was just kind of aloof and walking around the room. And finally, after a few minutes of chatting, Don pulls out a copy of Pet Sounds on CD that he wants Brian to sign.
So Brian grabs it and he signs, "To Don, thanks for all the great music." And he's handing it back to Don, but before Don can take it, he grabs it back and he crosses out "great" and puts "good music." [Laughs.] And the thing is, there's no irony there. He's not being funny. He's really thinking, "I wrote 'great,' but I don't think it's great. But it's good. It's good music." And he handed it back to Don, and it was perfect.
Just when I thought it was possible to not love Brian Wilson anymore than I already did...
God bless Brian Wilson. I think he already did.

This Beautiful Day: Good album opener.. Very Much 'From There To Back Again' and Summer's Gone... Runaway Dancer: Hands down the best song on the album.. In my opinion. Very George Michael and WHAM! Definitely could be gettin jiggy wit it on the dance floor with this one. Whatever Happened: Can't go wrong with AJ & DM. But where is David..? On The Island: Very Jimmy Buffet! Would like to be "On An Island" with Zooey. Half Moon Bay: Great jazzy track. Our Special Love: Peter has a really good voice. Sounds very 80's. The Right Time: Eh.. This one doesn't do much for me. Guess You Had To Be There: I don't do Country..But I'll Accept this. Put this on a Country Station. Somewhere Quiet: Sounds like Al but doesn't say featuring Al Jardine...? Sail Away: It's ooook. Saturday Night: Catchy Tune. Put it on the radio. The Last Song: This one Lasts a little too long.
It's about time BW had current artists on an album. I loved that Brian wished Carl & Dennis could have sang on the record.
After 11 Studio Albums this is my favorite... It hits all the right spots. Bravo Brian Bravo.
