With special emphasis on Pet Sounds and Good Vibrations.  Ugh...lets put emphasis on the REST of the story for a change...we all know and love the PS/GV deal but we've read about it 50 million times.

Funny how with an emphasis on pet sounds and good vibrations the cover of the book is from the Surfin safari photoshoot..

You could get one with Mike's face saying wheeeeeeeeen
103  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love on Love & Mercy: ‘Poor Brian, He’s Had a Rough, Rough Time’ on: June 13, 2015, 09:45:51 PM
Just as the Four Seasons became Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and the Animals became Eric Burdon and the Animals, so should it have become Mike Love and the Beach Boys.

But you know what? Mike is too humble to put himself forward like that. (Do you know he once met Marlon Brando?)

No cuz he wasnt the sole lead vocalist. Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, Steve Perry, Lou Gramm, Steven Tyler are the lead vocalists in there bands. So that would make sense to name the band with them as top billing. Diana Ross and the Supremes, Gary Puckett and Union Gap, Huey Lewis & The News, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Mike Love & The Beach Boys...? Mmmm not feelin it

They should have been Mike Love and the Four Assholes.

Hahaha like the four seasons.. The four aces.. The Four Freshmen.. The four assholes!
Although I don't think Alan, Brian, Carl & Dennis were assholes

The 1972-73 tour box set needs to happen.

yeaaa I've pretty much given hope on that one. All we get is 1 f***ing song from different shows (made in california). For Christs sakes "Summer in Paradise" (London 1993)Huh how random is that....

Didn't Mike say something about releasing archive material that its scraping the bottom of the barrel? yet he wants to re-record some of the beach boys songs... yeaaa that makes total sense.
106  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love on Love & Mercy: ‘Poor Brian, He’s Had a Rough, Rough Time’ on: June 10, 2015, 08:54:08 PM
Great buckets of bullshit! Mike Love could fart and you people would crucify him for that. Man o man if you despise the guy so much here's an idea.. Don't listen to the group he's in or see him in concert. There.. all better now we all can sleep tight now.
107  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Becoming the Beach Boys, 1961-1963 -- Available Now! on: June 10, 2015, 06:57:26 AM
Ok.. Barnes and noble says available July 31... Amazon says June 26... Who do I believe!?
108  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy - News and Reviews - First clip is out. on: June 08, 2015, 06:53:09 PM
yep, filming fuller house with mike and bruce as we speak
109  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy - News and Reviews - First clip is out. on: June 08, 2015, 06:51:38 PM
"Bruce" had one line in the movie. Mike Love's lawyers were right, its a Brian Wilson movie, not a Beach Boys movie.

ya cant have a brian movie without the beach boys.
110  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy - News and Reviews - First clip is out. on: June 08, 2015, 06:41:19 PM
I hate to say it but I like An American Family a little better...

You could easily win that Unpopular Beach Boys Opinions thread.  Smiley

haha ya prolly but C'MON the casting was horrible. The actors who were portraying Al and Bruce are obviously much taller then the actual  Al and Bruce. ALSO... the scene on the plane when Brian has his breakdown.. Bruce is in that scene. But wasn't in the band at that time. Dec 23 1964 was the breakdown. Bruce joined april 9 1965. ooh the inaccuracies!!

We were in the dressing room at this fundraiser in New York, and Don Henley and Timothy Schmidt from The Eagles walked in. And Timothy was very nice, but Don was just kind of aloof and walking around the room. And finally, after a few minutes of chatting, Don pulls out a copy of Pet Sounds on CD that he wants Brian to sign.

So Brian grabs it and he signs, "To Don, thanks for all the great music." And he's handing it back to Don, but before Don can take it, he grabs it back and he crosses out "great" and puts "good music." [Laughs.] And the thing is, there's no irony there. He's not being funny. He's really thinking, "I wrote 'great,' but I don't think it's great. But it's good. It's good music." And he handed it back to Don, and it was perfect.

Just when I thought it was possible to not love Brian Wilson anymore than I already did...

God bless Brian Wilson.

I think he already did.

I don't think the folks behind this show have any clue who Charles Manson is. If they did then this actor would have a beard and long hair.
115  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Aquarius on: May 27, 2015, 08:03:56 PM
The new Manson themed show airs Thursday May 28 on NBC. Would be cool to have a little DW in it.

119  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why Didn't Dennis Have More Lead Vocals? on: May 18, 2015, 02:40:09 PM

I kind of like the fact he didn't sing more. It makes the songs he did sing more awesome.
120  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Recent Bruce interview on: May 16, 2015, 02:45:12 PM
Didn't know Surf's Up was considered a "classic" song..
121  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What is the most devastating moment in the band's career? on: May 16, 2015, 02:43:30 PM
I find Wipe Out with the Fat Boys pretty devastating...
122  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy - News and Reviews - First clip is out. on: April 14, 2015, 06:23:40 PM
The casting for this movie blows chunks.
123  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Pier Pressure (board member reviews) on: April 07, 2015, 03:38:05 PM
This Beautiful Day: Good album opener.. Very Much 'From There To Back Again' and Summer's Gone...
Runaway Dancer: Hands down the best song on the album.. In my opinion. Very George Michael and WHAM! Definitely could be gettin jiggy wit it on the dance floor with this one.
Whatever Happened: Can't go wrong with AJ & DM. But where is David..?
On The Island: Very Jimmy Buffet! Would like to be "On An Island" with Zooey.
Half Moon Bay: Great jazzy track.
Our Special Love: Peter has a really good voice. Sounds very 80's.
The Right Time: Eh.. This one doesn't do much for me.
Guess You Had To Be There: I don't do Country..But I'll Accept this. Put this on a Country Station.
Somewhere Quiet: Sounds like Al but doesn't say featuring Al Jardine...?
Sail Away: It's ooook.
Saturday Night: Catchy Tune. Put it on the radio.
The Last Song: This one Lasts a little too long.

It's about time BW had current artists on an album.
I loved that Brian wished Carl & Dennis could have sang on the record.

After 11 Studio Albums this is my favorite... It hits all the right spots.
Bravo Brian Bravo.
124  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: When Was Dennis At His Peak as a Songwriter? on: April 05, 2015, 09:29:04 AM
Not really sure he had a "peak" considering his output or input was not consistent. All I know is that it was a mistake not having 4th of July and Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again on Surf's Up.
125  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / KOMA Radio Spot on: April 05, 2015, 07:25:22 AM
Any info on this? Year.. Was Bruce present?

Also I listen to this 10 second clip over and over. The harmony is so pure.
