Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: The Stephen Desper Thread

Speaking of "Country Air", I have a question about an odd, interference-like noise that shows up in all versions of the song that I've heard. It starts at about 1:17, during a short time when there's no singing. It get's the most audible at about 1:22 or so. Almost sounds like what happens when your cell phone gets too close to your computer speakers. Do you happen to know what this is, Mr. Desper?
That would be a messed up cable distorting the Chamberlin's output.

For real though, this is the greatest day on the Smiley board since BarryDavidThompson said: My first Manson wrote listen a very beutifull song sung by one Willium Axl Rose . A song called look at your game girl. Axl in fact became completley obsessed with manson. He wore a shirt very often with various masnon themed frazes, ie charlie dont surf!
Fair enough, he was very fkd up.
But, he did have a very eatherel sence of song. A song that only, in my mind, has no fear. He, and in every sence of the word had balls. His was a world of confusion, but his lyrics speak out to me.
Bottom line though, FUM HIM THE MOURDOROUS BASTARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Praise him and you are as bad as I am!
Im in no way religious, infact I hate the whole god fad. But I still feel like Ive sined for praising MANSON.
Cheers
Barry

I have to say, I am very excited for these releases. It's quite unfortunate that Wild Honey, Friends, and 20/20 aren't included, though I can understand the business sense behind that.
But, given Acoustic Sounds' reputation (I was just reading amazing reviews of their transfer and new release of Duke Ellington's 1951 Masterpieces album, for instance), these hold promise of finally representing these records the way they're supposed to sound. I'll wait to see Stephen Desper's response, but I hope they will manage to capture, for instance, more of the original intended sound of Sunflower .
The last pressing that I bought a few years ago was a definite improvement in sound over any CD release so far. Can it really sound even better? Yes. I am relatively new to the audiophile world, but I have discovered that there is a big difference between an average consumer release and what a label geared to audiophiles does. Half-speed mastering and other techniques which take great care to capture as much sonic information on the original master tape as possible are the norm with these specialty labels (MOFI, Acoustic Sounds, etc.). I would be very surprised if this release of Sunflower, for instance, doesn't sound significantly better than the 2009 vinyl release. You will likely hear increased separation and clarity of individual instruments and an increased sense of presence. And I suspect the difference between this and the 2009 vinyl will be bigger than the difference you heard between that and the CD. I could be wrong, but I suspect (and hope) I'm not. I sure hope they tone down the massive treble on Sunflower and give it a more natural tone.

Holy sh*t... This makes me super excited for a 1965 comp.
It makes ME super excited for the 1966/1967 comps! Before those get here, may I be the first one to beg, plead etc..Mark & Alan to give us that version of Barnyard with the backing vocals on it that was included on the 2011 SMiLE Sessions review streams. PLEASE. Also, Any other SMiLE material that you guys wanted to include on the 2011 release but ran out of disc space for. P.S. No more Good Vibrations unless you found the vocal multitracks or succeed in reversing the polarity of the hit single's backing track and can use it to isolate the vocals from the mono single. Pretty Please! The 66/67 comps are gonna be a ball. We need more Smiley era recordings of The Boys getting stoned.

thanks agd, this board is indeed very special. i am humbled by the vast knowlege on display, and i lke the friendliness of the board. just clicked over here from a very dysfunctional board that does not tolerate veering too far from the consensus, and it's a relief to see how harmonious smileysmile.net is.
What, the Steve Hoffman board?

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Pink Floyd to release new album in October 2014

"Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album, The Endless River, in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the summer."
So, it seems that "leaked" composer sheet is likely a fake.
Totally fake.
