Mike as well as the whole band sounds really good lately. I'm shooked at how good it actually sounds

Unless we're talking about a certain 7 minute plus song.  Shocked (no tongue in cheek emoji I can see, so I've chosen a random one)

I don't really buy into the length being an issue, it came down to other issues.

Yeah...WIBNTLA would have to have been edited somewhat (likely to trim the ending ala MIC) in order to add it to the album and not drop something else. But I agree with you that it came down to other issues. It's also been said that the dispute resulted from Dennis' insistence that the LP close with WIBTLA, following TID, and that placing it anywhere else in the running order would lessen the effect. Once Jack and Carl determined that SU would be the closer, Dennis pulled his song(s) from the project altogether.

Dennis wanted more of a say and Carl and Jack had their own ideas of the track order.  Really it was kind of petty for Dennis to pull his songs, but there was definitely a power struggle between Carl and Dennis, and Carl won.

Imagine the coming years if Dennis had won the battle. It would've been glorious!

It would've been fine trimmed down imo, the outro is it's weakest part

Yeah it definitely looks like Rob. Too bad he doesn’t get any solos. I loved his take on don’t worry baby when he was filling in for Matt

Just curious, any reason as to why Brian sang the 1st verse of Rhonda? Don't think I've ever seen that in all the years Al has been touring with him....it's Al's signature BB song.

He completely destroyed it too unfortunately.

Besides that, he had feeling, when it happens it happens

So Giggens was talking about Al rerecording the bass for seasons in the sun and that could've been a possible factor for the set to be pushed back. Do you guys think that could be the case? I mean, it really doesn't matter anymore but, hey, I'm curious  Roll Eyes

I’ve been saying for a long time that they should be equally billed, especially when it became apparent that Al was not just a special guest and a permanent fixture in the touring band. Maybe it’s because they’ve built up the name “Brian Wilson” to be a sort of brand at this point. Al seems to be a really humble guy and I give him a lot of credit for that. But they’ve been touring together for almost a decade now, I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be “Brian Wilson & Al Jardine” on the marquee. But like I said, Al is humble and it seems like he wants to be supportive of Brian above everything. I don’t think he particularly cares that much if he gets a decent amount of lead vocals spots, though I agree that I think he should be more heavily featured.

Yeah I totally get that they're trying to cash in on the Brian Wilson brand name more than anything else. But a show billed as "The Brian, Al & Blondie Show" would still carry the Brian Wilson name and I don't think they would lose any attendance, I would rather think that they would win some people because as I stated earlier, I would much rather go to that kind of show than the one they're doing now, I can't be all alone feeling like this

Here's the majority of "It's OK":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUsO5DLOHtk&list=FL0dftRhJ76dCyJthC4OcDRw&index=2

Can't tell if it's supposed to be a Matt lead or if he's just taking it over because Brian's not singing. Kinda seems like the latter as the verse starts. I dunno. The band and Matt sound excellent. Brian looks completely blank. I'm sure he's less so when he's more engaged singing a lead. But at this stage, if they want to do gigs, I'm not opposed to it being more of a "Brian Wilson Band" concert and have Brian just come on stage for a set of songs where it's mostly his leads.

Yeah, they best and easiest way to utilize it is to them starting the show, taking a small break while Brian joins them for the second - smaller - set to where he sings his favorite songs to close it. I don't think anyone would mind this, I would actually rather go to a show that's set up that way, just let Jardine and Blondie get the spotlight at the beginning while ending in a big crowd pleasing crescendo with Brian taking over the show

Brian sounds the best he has in several years absolutely but does anyone find it criminal that Blondie has more leads than Al now and the only new song they add is It’s Ok a song Brian has said makes him have bad memories? Their set lists have become so stale except for the that brief something great from 68 tour

I do like that they're incorporating Blondie more into the show. Al should have more leads than what he's currently having though.

I also think that they should give Brian some slight vocal tuning on these live shows, it's not a bad thing

The lack of group interviews for this release is so disappointing.

No indepth interview about this amazing period of time  Cry

Here's what you missed:

"I think my cousin Bri' was more interested in the drugs at that time."

"Til I Die is fantastic. It was Brian's last great song. I wrote Disney Girls because 22-year-olds smoking pot gave me the heebie jeebies."

"We usually ate all the food in Brian's fridge before we recorded. Surf's Up was kind of a drag because there were all these people around Brian's sandbox doing drugs. I kept out of all that! But... I should probably rerecord Take a Load Off Your Feet. Wait, was Vegetables on that album?"

"What? Surf's Up? Oh, yeah, that song was quite an experience. Van Dyke wrote that one in 15 minutes and I thought it was fantastic. Then we did Summer Days and Summer Nights, a real rock and roll type album."

 LOL

For being a bed resting vegetable Brian sure did much on these sessions  Roll Eyes

Jokes aside, Good Time left me a bit in awe, there's something about it that sounds so timeless and modern.

Not sure if this has already been answered, but is there a particular reason why Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again was excluded from the second disc tracklist?
Does it really matter on what disc it is, I mean it's still on the boxset?

Bit late to the party (been trying to limit computer use, I suffered a concussion 8 days ago) but these are both amazing as others have said. I think Feel Flows almost works better without the flute to be honest.

Didn't realize the set is out Friday. Thought it was the 31st.
Are you alright?
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set on: August 20, 2021, 12:51:44 PM
So somewhere along the lines with all of the stuff about this set being moved up for later release I got it in my head that is was due for a late September release. Today I say it was due on Friday and my mind went nuts, I'm so looking forward for this, and instead of having to wait a whole month, as I previously though, it's only one week, AWESOME! Grin

Yeah he still does the falsetto in the outro of fun fun fun and it sounds great. I really think a song like Don't Worry Baby would have fitted him at least back in the days but he never sang that right?

Well...

Also...this bizarre take from '69...shared lead with Al...and way too much tremolo on the organ. The medley itself is nice, but "Don't Worry Baby" feels quite out of place, as does Bruce's squeeling...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHdi3zW78pg&t=795s

Don't worry baby weren't in that medley was it? Or is it later in the concert? I've always wondered about Mike's sounds on the intro of I Get Around on that show, and it's hella funny how Bruce jumps when he does it haha.

On that first video you linked was interesting, the version itself isn't something I'd want to remember haha, but Bruce's vocals is on point, he really had a great voice.

Yes, it runs from 11:30-12:30 in the video...quite roughly shoe-horned between lovely versions of "The Warmth of The Sun" and "Please Let Me Wonder".

Ooooh, thank you for that! He really did nail please let me wonder though didn't he? :D

Podcast sheds some interesting light on what MIGHT have been one reason for the delay/halt in the project.  Alan mentions how they went through several iterations of the set in terms of sequencing the tracks, and the final track sequencing selection came about after input from “the group.”  The final selection is similar to what they did with Made in California, and we know who was behind that.  So perhaps - this is all speculation of course - the initial sequence of the albums with bonus tracks following including a capella, instrumental mixes, finished outtake songs and unfinished demos and Dennis tracks did not meet with a certain member’s approval, and the live versions and finished outtakes following the albums, with the demos, unfinished Dennis tracks and outtake songs on the fifth disc was just what this follicularly challenged member wanted to sign off on the set.

Yeah.. Damn it Stamos!!

Dennis was so productive during these years yet he's hardly present on Surf's Up and Holland. It's nothing short of a real shame Undecided

Steamboat is one of my all time favorite beach boys songs though.

When and why did Bruce stop doing Brians falsettos live? Anyone who knows?

He still does the fun fun fun outro falsetto so he obviously has it in him, but it feels like he stopped doing them looong ago? He already had stopped doing it when they played on Knebworth 1980 correct?

Wow, the Jazz Festival is all the way into October!

As for John Stamos, by all accounts he's a nice guy and a good friend to the band, but from a musical perspective he's just not a selling point for me. David Marks, on the other hand, would be.

Anyway, I'm not going to any concerts or other events with large crowds for quite a while yet.

David marks would be for the more diehard fans, but in general no one would know who that is as opposed to Stamos.

Stamos also has the lead on a new show on Disney+ which means they could be winning some people/families just by that.
