Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The most stunning Beach Boys AI I've heard yet

When I suggested that Dae Lims "fix" some Brian vocals (including on Wilson/Paley material), I meant that I'd love to hear better Brian vocals (not necessarily younger Brian vocals) on those tunes/segments. For example, in Elbow '63, I'd like to hear on key mid-to-late 90's Brian vocals for the "we made music" section. I don't need to hear mid-60s Brian vocals.

While Brian is still with us, I'd like to see Andy Paley and Darian produce a "Wilson/Paley Tribute" concert in LA (and NY?). All Wilson/Paley tunes would be featured, with other Wilson, Paley and BB songs filling out the show. Obviously, it would be a niche event. But, I believe many Board members would endeavor to attend.

The Dae Lims AI stuff is incredible! It would be great if he could use AI to "fix" the vocals in various BW recordings:
- Wilson/Paley tracks like Elbow '63 ("we made music ..."), Proud Mary, Slightly American Music + Going Home
- Intro to the Hallmark version of The Spirit of Rock N Roll
- How Could We Still Be Dancing ("dance the night away, dance the night away" and "hey everybody")
- Fairy Tale

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson & Joe Thomas

I've never minded the sound of a Joe Thomas/BW production, including "Everything I Need'. However, I think Joe's influence on songs selected for an album is the real problem. I don't think I'd dislike the sound of a Thomas production of "Chain Reaction of Love". But, I doubt Joe would ever select that song for a BW album. Of course, I understand that Brian (presumably) could have overruled Joe (and/or others) to include more Paley/BW tunes on Imagination or NPP. And, Joe wasn't around to overrule when it came to songs for GIOMH (the album).

I agree that recent photos show Brian looking better than he has in awhile. However, I fear that he continues to have trouble walking - is he confined to a wheel chair? As they say, "father time in undefeated"; while Brian survived mental illness, drug use, Landy, etc., he's probably winding down in all respects as the years pile on.

I recently discovered Elbow '63 (although the song references 1964?). Who handles the low vocals on this one - Andy Paley?
Along with Chain Reaction of Love, Elbow is one of the better not-yet-officially released Wilson/Paley tracks.

Thanks for the info. I now understand that Brian cut a new version of GIOMH (the song) for the album of the same name. So, there was not a lead vocal re-do over a common backing track, as there was for You're Still a Mystery. Previously, I was comparing the GIOMH album track to the original (booted/BW web site) version of the song from the Paley sessions.

So, the sequence was (apparently):
- original version of Water Builds Up (WBU) (pre-1987)
- parts of WBU morph into Let's Go to Heaven ... (1987)
- WBU is brought back (with modifications) for the SI sessions (1990)
I should also note that a couple of other SI era tunes were released in revised form on Gettin' In Over My Head:
- "Save the Day" became "Fairy Tale"
- "Let's Stick Together" became "The Waltz"
I rather enjoy "Fairy Tale" and "The Waltz", which may place me in the minority of BW fans(?).
In my opinion, another unreleased BW song ("Turning Point') would have been a candidate for "sharpening" (and release) somewhere along the way. Did that song originate during the Paley Sessions (post - SI)?
I welcome any and all fact checks by the Board readers.

As best I can tell, of the 13 songs often associated with the ill-fated Sweet Insanity album:
- 1 (Country Feeling) was later released "as is".
- 4 (Don't Let Her Know ..., The Spirit of Rock N Roll, Rainbow Eyes and Make a Wish) were later released as completely new recordings (with tweaks - mostly revised lyrics)
- 1 (Water Builds Up) was later significantly overhauled and released as Let's Go To Heaven in My Car.
- 7 (Concert Tonight, Someone to Love, Do You Have Any Regrets, Brian, Hotter, Love Ya and Smart Girls) were never released in any recognizable fashion (to the best of my knowledge).
Of the 7 "missing" songs, I believe that "cleaned up" versions of Someone to Love, Do You have Any Regrets and Love Ya would have been welcome additions to the long list of officially released BW solo efforts. It's much more difficult to imagine reasonable versions of Brian, Hotter and Smart Girls ever being released.

I like the idea of using AI to fix or complete BB/BW songs. With respect to fixing, the intro to The Spirit of Rock and Roll (by BW) on the Hallmark album is a top candidate for repair. Other candidates include several songs from BW's Getting In Over My Head and the Danny Hutton duet (Hold Back Time) on the VDP/BW Orange Crate Art album.
