I'll be waiting to read reports about the auto-tune. If its the same level as the 'Doin It Again' DVD I don't think I want to bother.

Auto-tune was gone by the time they got to Phoenix on 7/7 (apparently the concert this DVD represents).  That's not to say that they haven't fixed stuff in post-production because they likely have (most live releases do) but B-Pain was long gone by the time of this show.  The show(s) on "Doin It Again" were very early on in the tour.

Not bad.  We're getting a few lesser known songs.  I mean, All This Is That on a Joe Q Public release?  Very not bad.

That said, I still eagerly await and desperately want a video document of all 61 songs.  Either by releasing the entire RAH show (preferred) or a compilation of various shows.

This is making me want the live DVD/Blu-Ray right freakin now...

'cept please be the entire 60+ song set.  Yes I'm greedy.   Cool

Someone mentioned (perhaps in another thread) that there are 3 DVD projects in the works.  Do we know if that means 3 *IN ADDITION TO* this release (which I will be getting from Amazon today) or if this is included in that tally?  Either way, we're looking at another 2 DVD projects.  I just hope to God that one of them will represent a complete concert (drawn from multiple sources if necessary) with all the songs they've performed this tour.

It might also be that "Made in California" will become the quintessential collection... all the hits, a boatload of rarities and unreleased gems... all in one place.

I'll withhold further judgement until I see the tracklist.

By the way, for those who are interested, the Japanese release of the 50-song hits package will add a 51st song("Be True to Your School") and special packaging. It is being offered for preorder by CD Japan.

I always found it curious that BTTYS was being offered on the single disc GH release, but absent from 50 Big Ones.  Now I know why... to be held out as a "bonus track" for Japan.  LMAO.

They will be back.

LMS2: Almost Summer

insert YouTube link here

Do you think it's a bright idea to be talking about a place such as LMS on such a public board that is known to be read by insiders and Capitol suits?
83  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Details on the new greatest hits albums and remasters on: August 09, 2012, 10:27:22 AM
Perhaps someone has touched on this, but since we know that Mark Linett has done some work on a stereo "Wild Honey" mix, and the song Wild Honey is on 50BO's, perhaps we will see a new stereo mix of said track. That would be enough to make me shell out the money for the CD's.

This.

It would not surprise me at all if the set features all the new mixes, meaning stereo Good Vibes etc.
84  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: August 08, 2012, 12:37:59 PM
But the question remains: What is the motive behind Capitol & The Beach Boys' "Wall of Secrecy" policy?

Is everything a conspiracy theory with you, Phil?

Is the Earth really flat? Who shot JFK? Did we really walk on the moon?

You become a bigger joke with every post, Eeyore.
85  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: August 08, 2012, 09:27:10 AM
I'm disappointed that the 2012 "50th Anniversary" archival campaign has been poorly coordinated, and falls far short of what it could have been.

When are you ever NOT disappointed?

Seriously, 2012 has been an amazing year thusfar, and it isn't over yet.  Remember, there is still the Box Set to look forward to which we know little to nothing about.  Plus who's to say that the rest of the albums in the catalog won't be re-released.  Why, just because Capitol hasn't told us their plans RIGHT NOW doesn't mean that things won't be continuing to come down the pipe for some time yet.
86  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: August 08, 2012, 07:39:56 AM
A partial end to the "Wall of Secrecy". Way overdue. So a half dozen 1960's albums are apparently being sent into permanent exile?

Damn Phil, simmer down dude. You're gonna have a heart attack!

We still don't know what future plans for the catalog are, nor do we know the details of the box set.... which could either be a revamp of the 30 Years set or something akin to the Beatles box.  We just don't know.  Stop being all gloom n doom until we know for certain.  Chillax, Eeyore.
87  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: August 07, 2012, 11:25:19 AM
Gotta have "Surfin'", and "409"... and I would most sincerely hope they'd be in order of release.
You're right....drop Little Girl I Once Knew and  It's OK....dammit.....

I have a strong suspicion the list I posted earlier may very well be what we end up seeing.  No evidence to back me up on it, just call it a well educated guess.

89  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: August 07, 2012, 10:41:39 AM
FYI - including B sides, a BW solo release that was on a BB album and two Xmas singles, there are 57 Hot 100 charting US BB songs.

One would have to assume they'd leave off "Beach Boys Medley"... probably get rid of the two Christmas singles as well... that still leaves 4 songs that will not likely appear on this set.  Add to that the likely inclusions of "That's Why God Made The Radio" and "Isn't It Time (re-recorded)" and we're back up to 6 charted songs that will likely not appear on this set.

I'd venture to guess that "Ten Little Indians", despite being on the Hot 100, will not appear on this set.  Likely ditto "Peggy Sue".

Unless "50 Big Ones" is just the name of the compilation and there will be 56 (give or take) tracks...

Gotta love the guessing game...       Cool
90  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Doin' It Again DVD/Blu-ray due August 28 on: July 20, 2012, 11:21:44 AM
Although, it does make you wonder:  if the other concerts that were filmed (like Red Rock) for a possible DVD release will be used as part of a more elaborate documentary/tour-diary (as a few posters have suggested) why release this PBS special if they're both basically the same format i.e. documentar mixed with live song excerpts?  You'd think that any other DVD release would be a complete show concert DVD rather than just an "expanded" version of this "Doin In Again" program?

This.

I still have to believe that we will get a faux full concert (with clips from multiple shows, including overseas) if they continue to film concerts but already have this one "in the can" and ready for release in a little over a month.

Adam, you guys really don't have to do this for me on my 36th birthday... especially since I'll be stuck in 'sconsin...

That said, a DVD of the show would be pretty sweet for a belated birthday gift.  Hint hint.   LOL

If WIBNTLA hasn't been booted, where did I hear it, then?  Or is there a song with a similar lyric line that I could be thinking of, sung by Dennis?  Whatever song it was, it was not that spectacular.

Adam Marsland did a cover of it on his band's live tribute to Dennis and Carl CD...
94  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your fantasy archival release ... on: July 05, 2012, 09:20:09 AM
Release it on beachboyscentral.com in FLAC format with cool downloadable liner notes. No need for much promotion, hardcore fans will get the word out there.

EVERYTHING that is in the archives needs this treatment. I WILL BUY IT ALL!!  May take me a few years to be able to afford it all, but make it so and it will be mine   Smiley

I haven't listened to SIP in a while, but I'm sure my family will forever be tormented by the memories of me blasting it out of my stereo constantly when it came out and for a year or two after that...

Hmm, maybe THAT is why they don't like our Boys...  It's all starting to make sense now!   LOL
96  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 42: Marcus Amphitheater - Milwaukee, WI 7/1/12 on: July 02, 2012, 08:19:15 AM
At least I was not surrounded by any drunks and being Summerfest that's saying something.

I wish the same could be said for my experience... I had two drunk ladies in their 60s shaking their asses in front of my face most of the night on virtually every song.
97  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 42: Marcus Amphitheater - Milwaukee, WI 7/1/12 on: July 02, 2012, 05:05:37 AM
- Heard "Ride" by the Wondermints during the intermission

Also during the pre-show walk-in mix.  The couple that sat next to me must have thought I was crazy because I was singing along to that and "Guess I'm Dumb"    Cool

But i thought Brian said he didn't even knew his brother did a record.

He also said "I threw it away, I junked it. I thought it was inappropriate music for us to make, yeah." in reference to SMiLE.

So what is on those 5 CDs that came out last year?!?
