Listen to the mix of "TTGA" from "American Band" - it's effectively upside down, hence you can hear Mike's part predominating. Further to the 'Leo Controversy', I think it's significant that the person who told me it was him behind the SOTs turned out to have highly questionable integrity. Three guesses... Hmm... who could that possibly B.E. ??

To my ears it sounds like Jeff Foskett shadowing Brian. I hear Brian in there somewhere, but the prominent voice sounds more like Fosky to me. I hear BW quite a bit in the other background vocals and of course the "I'll leave her, and you'll leave him" bit on the fade.
On the other hand, BW was still doing falsettos into the late 80s, witness "Heavenly Bodies" from the Usher sessions
One of the great mysteries of the universe....

OMG Steve.... I can't even begin to imagine what you're going thru right now. As others have mentioned, the important thing is you and your family survived. Hang in there my friend, and know that we're all here for ya.

In the final years of Kowalski's tenure, "Dance Dance Dance" sounded more like "Snooze Snooze Snooze"... way slowed down... sounded awful... Haven't had the pleasure of seeing the new band yet, but all reports are they are doing a great job.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Mike in audience for TLOS DVD taping?!?
|

So I watched the TLOS DVD last week with a good buddy of mine who is also a major fan, and after the performance they show a shot of the crowd.
He asked me "Is that Mike?!?" So I rewound and freeze-framed it and sure enough... some middle aged guy in a Hawaiian shirt and ball cap, who in a fuzzy profile view, looks like it could possibly be the Lovester.
I know it probably isn't, but could it be that Mike was in attendance that day?!? It does kinda look like him, but was unable to get a decent enough freeze-frame to tell for sure...
Anyone know what I'm talking about and feel like chiming in here?

Gettin In over My Head 14. Don't Worry Baby
Was this ever on CD as an import? I thought it was an iTunes exclusive with purchase of the album... As for the other tracks, I haven't seen them available separately, sorry. We *really* need a site like BBCentral was gonna be, where we can buy these tracks (as well as the TLOS bonuses) a la carte.

My guess is tht other than another "Greatest Hits" cd or two, we'll see nothing more in the future from the Boys. The Boys are getting old, the group is fragmented, and Capitol Records doesn't seem to be interested. This doesn't bode well for the future.
I seriously doubt that's the way it will play out. Nice tease there, Jon... Let's hope for a Denny Rarities set somewhere along the line, based on the success of POB/Bambu last year

Pearl Jam has released no less than 264 (!) official live albums so far... They simply release an 'official bootleg' of every show they do so that there's nothing left to bootleg... I wouldn't mind if the same thing would be done with the Beach Boys archive... Amen to that! In addition to what's already been mentioned (SMiLE box, Hawthorne II, live concerts) I'd really like to see the BW camp recreate a FULL concert DVD. They could record it on a soundstage ala SMiLE, over several days or weeks, ensuring that they get the best possible performance from the big guy. Just please don't change wardrobes ala Pet Sounds live, or a worse offender BW On Tour where the band changes clothes while performing the songs. I knew they were talented, but wow!

I read that Brian will have track-by-track commentary.
Here's a transcript
"This song is about the sun, and how it's lucky to roll around Heaven all day. Oh and it's an old sun too. It's called That Lucky Old Sun. I went to the record store... do they even have those any more? And I bought Louis Armstrong's version. And I changed the chords, and this is how it sounds."
"This song is about morning, and the beat it has."
"This song is about love... the good kind. Not the bad kind."
"This song is about how my wife will be my surfer girl forever and ever."
"This song is about living, not dying. And how we should let things live. Oh and whales."
"This song is about all the girls in Mexico."
"This song is about finding your role in California."
"This song is about oxygen, and how you need it to go to your brain."
"This song is about midnight, and how it's the start of a brand new day"
"This song is about going home. It's called Going Home... haha!!"
"This song is about California, and this dream i had about singing with my brothers."

Good to see ya here, Scott! I'm hoping to make at least one of the shows at Potowatomi Casino in Milwaukee later this month, but don't know if my finances will allow me to yet. As for requests, I'll leave that to others. I'm glad that you are introducing some lesser-known songs that were never performed by the guys back in the day. The segue from "Let Him Run Wild" to "Little Girl I Once Knew" is classic. Heard a recording of a show last year and was blown away at that moment. Hope you stick around, this is a great forum
