Good things are coming …
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian Wilson 2019 signed collectible VIP tour poster on: November 06, 2019, 08:31:08 PM
This is an original 2019 collectible VIP poster signed by Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin, Matthew Jardine, Darian Sahanaja, Mike D'Amico, Probyn Gregory, Bob Lizik, Gary Griffin, Paul Von Mertens, Jim Laspesa and Rob Bonfiglio.

With the unfortunate passing of Nick Walusko, Endless Summer Quarterly [ESQ] magazine is putting together a very special tribute in honor of Nick for the upcoming Winter 2019 edition. In addition to the new issue, ESQ is a part of this initiative to assist in raising funds for Nick’s unreleased solo album project, with 100% of the proceeds going toward funding Nick’s album.

This is your chance to own a historic collector's item, as well as help fund the completion of Nick's album. The winning bidder's name will also be included in the "Thank you" section of the liner notes.

Hi All,

Recently I joined Pray for Surf podcaster Phil Miglioratti in interviewing author Jim Hirsch, who collaborated with Mike Love on Good Vibrations: My Life as a Beach Boy. He discusses his process working with Mike and we got into the current Beach Boys/Brian Wilson touring situation and the fallout from the 50th anniversary. We only scratched the surface and will do a part two next week. You can listen here: http://prayforsurfblog.blogspot.ca/.

Mike states why/how the 2012 tour ended in his book… from his perspective.  Not sure how Mark asking the question would provide a new revelation.

You've already received your Mike apologist credentials, no need to continue to flaunt them here.  Where does Mark say he is asking for a new revelation about the breakup of C50?  Mike discusses Manson in his book, does that mean asking questions about Manson is off limits for all future interviews?  If so, why didn't you step in and proclaim that as a useless question when it was under discussion a few weeks ago?  Is there a anything else in the book that future interviews shouldn't bother with?  Maybe his discussion of the hit single Kokomo that didn't involve cousin Brian?

Other than further cementing your status as a Mike apologist what value did you intend when making this comment?

EoL

You've got to get both books.  No collection is complete without them.

Regarding David Beard: I can't think of many of us, including anyone commenting on him in this thread and me, who have done even a tenth of what he and Lee Dempsey together and separately have done for the Beach Boys and the Beach Boys community.  And I know from decades of observation, that they are both bona fide admirers and respecters of Brian and all the Boys.

Thank you Cam.

There was never an agenda.  It isn't fair to The Beach Boys' legacy, or to Mike Love, to suggest that my error in judgement in writing the article on Examiner that used a poorly worded term (which was changed) was due to being hired to design and write a tour program.

After the Examiner article appeared I reached out to Melinda and Brian apologized.  Melinda responded in kind, and we moved on.

Again, it was my decision to write the article.  It is a mistake that I deeply regret.

With the exception of colleague Andrew Doe, I don't follow either board closely enough to know who is and isn't here or there.

In fact, the only reason I was aware of this thread was because Lee Dempsey copy and pasted (in an email) what Debbie said, otherwise it wouldn't have even been on my radar.

For the most part, this is all inconsequential … It has nothing to do with the music.

This type of attack is why I'm not here anymore.  What makes it worse is the comment discredits all the members of The Beach Boys.  The idea of me being anti-Brian is lunacy.  That's like saying I don't like music.

I was hired to produce the 2015 and 2016 programs because the group trusts me to do a great job visually, and create an accurate balance to the group's past within the pages of each program.  I can say those tasks have been accomplished.  Ask anyone who has last year's program, or purchases 2016's.

Here are links that represent three consecutive editions of ESQ:

For the record (and they ALL already know this because I've told them), I love each member of The Beach Boys for what they've musically given the world.

Also Debbie, buy the program, and review the contents before stating something so uninformed and erroneous.

I agree, those questions should never have been asked. You could/should have taken it up with the people asking that stuff originally and helped end it all long before this. You chose otherwise.

Have to play devils advocate,  but how do you know he didn't?

If even one call was posted to 'stop the lying', maybe it would be different. But lies and liars get a free pass, while asking questions gets calls to let it die

Because the questions you are asking are, frankly, none of your Damn business. What does or doesn't happen on a board which you are no part of is none of your concern, plain and simple. Whatever lies and misinformation goes on there is on the heads of the so called liers. Once it leaves this board, it is not your crusade nor mine, or billy's, or any other board member.

Just curious.  You seem to have the same spelling and grammatical skills as the certain person who supposedly started another board.  Are you the same person, or did you just quit school at the same age?  Seriously, there is spell-check.

Now, to address the funding of that other board:  I think the term "follow the money" applies in pretty much everything that happens in the Western world.  A certain editor gets a tour book gig and he suddenly becomes anti-Brian.  That would be one example.  So who happens to be funding this thing?  I thinks it's a legitimate question, given the history.

Anti-Brian??

Like this?

In my recent interview I mentioned the Pet Sounds Forum, but the promotion was for Andrew Doe's Bellagio site, which is located via the sign post nailed to the palm tree on ESQ's landing page.

The Spring 2016 edition of Endless Summer Quarterly will be going to press VERY soon.

Contents:
Interviews with Brian Wilson, Melinda Wilson and Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen for Campaign To Change Direction.

An exclusive look at the making of the Wrecking Crew for the "Love & Mercy" film; including interviews with Johnny Sneed (Hal Blaine), Gary Griffin (Al De Lory), Teresa Cowles (Carol Kaye), Jim Laspesa and others.

Rare behind-the-scenes (on set) photos are included.

Sound great David, will be nice to have some good background material to accompany the Blu-ray.

What's the likelihood of you interviewing Rocky Pamplin about his forthcoming NYT best-seller dishing the dirt on his five minutes in the presence of the Beach Boys? (Please tell me the chances are slim!!!!!)

ESQ has never had an interest in "the dirt."  We know it, but we don't go down that road. The music, and anything any one of the members is promoting is our focus.  Albums, tours, causes, etc.

Pet Sounds 50!
50 Years Of Good Vibrations!

Got mine this morning, devoured it while the laundry was drying. The Paley interview is the stuff of life to the likes of me. More new session dates !!

One point I would argue: Landy didn't help Brian get his publishing back... because he didn't get it back. He did get an out of court settlement of $10 million in April 1992, but the publishing remained with Irving/Almo.

The Griffin recordings - am I right in thinking they're mostly, if not all, covers ?

Based on the titles, I would tend to think so...however, seeing the title "Mary Honey" makes me wonder, as Chuck "Crane" Kirkpatrick recalled that Brian played him his demo of a tune with that same name following the "Shortenin' Bread" session at Brother (January '78). Brian even had Earle run off a cassette dub for Kirkpatrick, but it was later stolen from his car in Miami years later. I'd always assumed the song in question was actually "Marilyn Rovell", recorded by Brian in '76 during the New Album era, and that Kirkpatrick was just misremembering the lyrical hook and title...but now I'm not so sure...

Craig, between the three of us, we can obtain the answer, and more information surrounding the song, and print a follow up in ESQ.   I have an email out to Gary Griffin for clarification.
