126  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Show 15: Sands Bethlehem Events Center - Bethlehem, PA 5/17/12 on: May 18, 2012, 03:02:11 AM
Wonderful review Sherrif! I still have to wait for more than two months, but reading about the shows nearly every morning surely builds up my anticpations.

IMO 'Ballad of ole Betsy' would be a great addition to the live repertoire. Scott sings it great and if Jeff gets a lead, well, Scott deserves one too. :-). I hope they'll keep up with rotating songs every night to keep things fresh. Hopefully other early tunes to add will be Custom Machine and Drive-In. As for more recent material I'm hoping for You Still Believe in Me, Break Away or California Saga (Hey, Al deserves more leads too). In Europe Tears in the Morning is very popular so it might get in there instead of RnRM or California Dreaming. Til I Die or Surf's up are probably the stuff of dreams I'd say.

This whole tour has been a dream come through already!

Well done both of you. I was under impression the location of the houses had never been discovered. You must have been the first ones. Which 'gracht' is it?

Hi, Loaf, what's your source for this info?

I bet this was a joke from a board member.

Hey Sound of Free, thanks for your excellent review. It's Darian who sings Carl's parts during All This is That.

That really was Jeff singing the first verse.... no Brian to be heard AT ALL.
141  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Live Grammy Discussion Thread on: February 12, 2012, 06:32:41 PM
This was good! Maroon 5 were acceptable, Foster the People: hated the guys voice, all Fender guitars, striped shirt on the drummer: nice touches though.

The Beach Boys: sounded just great... Slightly awkard arrangement with and extra chorus tacked on up front. Was this to lift pressure from Brian (for singing right on the first note)?

The musicians:
David Marks, Al Jardine, Jeffrey Fosket, Scott Totten, Probyn Gregory: all on guitar and vocals (Probyn also tannerin)
John Cowsill on drums, Nelson Bragg on percussion and vocals
Paul Mertens; flute, saxophone and vocals
Brett Simons: bass and vocals
Brian Wilson on piano, Darian Sahanja and Scott Bennet

No Nicky Wonder...

I read about the meeting at Derek Taylors house a few weeks ago in the new Byrds Biography Requiem for the Timeless by Johnny Rogan. Ill look it up later tonight.
145  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: When was the last time Bruce Johnston played bass? on: January 16, 2012, 11:14:09 AM
Weird, huh? He told about this on the BBB-board. No room for a keyboard, but to have something in his hands, he chose to strap a guitar on. He wasn't plugged in...
146  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: When was the last time Bruce Johnston played bass? on: January 16, 2012, 03:23:58 AM
Bruce was miming during that show, there wasn't enough room onstage for his keyboard, so he took a guitar to save room.

148  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Artists the Rock & Roll hall of fame dissed on: December 17, 2011, 08:40:31 AM
Smokey Robinson and The Miracles.

Smokey is in there already as a solo artist. The other members who were essential to their success, co-arranging and writing with Smokey, deserve being inducted. They are Warren Moore, Bobby Rogers, Claudette Robinson and the late Ronnie White and Marv Tarplin.

And what about David Marks and Bruce Johnston? I mean, when Metallica were inducted it was the current four and three previous members (Burton, Newsted and Mustaine)? The Temptations included the classic five plus Dennis Edwards.
149  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: THE BEACH BOYS ANNOUNCE 50TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION, NEW ALBUM AND TOUR on: December 16, 2011, 11:53:34 AM
Its Jeffrey Foskett in the last vocal booth.

To be clear; the musicians involved in the session presumably were Brett Simons (bass), Darian Sahanaja (keys), Nick Walusko (guitar), Scott Bennet (keys/guitar?) and Jeff Foskett (vocals) from Brians band, John Cowsill (drums) and Scott Totten (guitar) from Mikes band plus Gary Griffin (keys) who sometimes plays with Brian band live and on record. He used to be in the Beach Boys live band in the 90s I think. I believe David Marks was filmed for this promo video on a later date, I'm not sure he is on the actual track.

I hope more guys from the old days will contribute to recordings in the future (Carli Munoz, Ed Carter, Bobby Figueroa, Matt Jardine!!!, Billy Hinsche!!!)

(Sorry pixletwin!! Smiley)
