1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set on: October 08, 2020, 04:56:30 PM
Smiley Smile Forums: Mr. Capitol?

Capitol Records: I am extraordinarily busy, Smiley.

Smiley Smile Forums: I just wanted to ask about the Feel Flows set, the 50th Anniversary boxset for the Beach Boys. When do we get it?

Capitol Records: You don't

Smiley Smile Forums: Why not?

Capitol Records: We're only releasing 3 tracks.

Smiley Smile Forums: What 3 tracks? You have to release all the songs, right guys?

Capitol Records: Wrong, sir! WRONG! Under the US Copyright Act signed in 1976, it states quite clearly that all copyright won't expire IF - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy! - "Copyright in sound recordings and television broadcasts is not calculated with reference to the life of an author. " et cetera, et cetera..."Copyright in sound recordings expires 50 years from the end of the year in which the recording was made UNLESS THE RECORDING IS PUBLISHED DURING THAT 50 YEAR PERIOD!! It's ALL there! Black and white, clear as crystal! You PIRATED Beach Boys songs! You UPLOADED them to Youtube, which now has to be claimed and shut down, so you get... NOTHING!!! YOU LOSE!! GOOD DAY, SIR!!!

Smiley Smile Forums: You're a crook. You're a liar and swindler! That's what you are! How can you do a thing like this?! Music that will change the way the Beach Boys are viewed as a musical entity, and then you smash  all our hopes to pieces?! YOU'RE AN INHUMAN MONSTER!!

Capitol Records: I SAID "GOOD DAY!!!"

I saw Mike Love at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him about the Feel Flows set or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Hey! Amazing work! I have a question, I am planning to eventually attempt to put out sheet music of the sweet insanity era, would it be okay if I used your recreation of the cover? Also I would like to write about where you sourced it from and such, if that is okay with you! Thanks.

I don't have any problem with it! That cover is from an art book about lost albums called "The Greatest You'll Never Heard" by Bruno Macdonald. I don't have the book so i had to use that low quality pic for the recreation.

Hello. I did a recreation of this cover art for Sweet Insanity from an art book called "The Greatest Albums You'll Never Heard" by Bruno Macdonald. I tried getting it accurate as i possibly could since the original image has a pretty poor resolution. Special thanks to @kanittur (her Twitter) for doing the handwritten "Sweet Insanity". Hope you guys like it!

6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Wild Honey LP with poster on: January 26, 2019, 10:34:30 AM
I recently found out the first copies of a Venezuelan release of Wild Honey (https://www.discogs.com/The-Beach-Boys-Wild-Honey/release/6642139) included a "psychedelic poster", but i couldn't find a picture of that poster anywhere online.

Is this true? Does anyone have a picture of this poster? I'm very curious of how this poster looks like!

Billy -- As it stands THIS week, the "I'm Confessin'"/"You're As Cool As Can Be" segments along with DW's "Well You Know I Knew" and "'Gong' session" are the ones that are killing me. But it's all major and along with the MASSIVE live component also coming, nobody will be pissed off about and/or second guessing the copyright drop this Xmas.

Awesome! Thank you for the info...as always, we’re blessed to have you as a true steward of the bands legacy.

This is a great time to be fan. We’re finally getting materials we’ve only dreamed of. Man I hope my health holds up cause I really want to  be around to hear unreleased Brian stuff from 1972-1975

Let's also hope that some sort of ramped-up online archival program might still be possible so that we wouldn't have to wait until 2025 to hear 1975 material.

While not obviously anywhere near all A-list material, there is a ton of later 70s and 80s unreleased stuff that can even change *that* part of the narrative. I don't know if they should wait another decade to release "LA (Light Album)" era outtakes, etc. BB fans are not exactly getting younger.

I wonder how long we will have to wait until the complete Andy Paley sessions  LOL

Any chance of the '70s Friends remakes making this release? That would be awesome but the new potential track info is already incredible!

I've never heard about this. What's it about?

Brian tried remaking some of the songs on Friends in the early 70s with Stanley Shapiro and Tandyn Almer but the whole idea was never completed. I think they only got as far as making demos.

This is a long shot, but i hope we get a new remaster of the Live in London concert, a lot of the instruments feel buried in some songs.

So what is the real story behind the boys getting the instruments for Surfin'?

There's the most "famous" one, which is them using the money for food and spending it on instruments. But i've heard that it was actually Alan's mother who gave them the money.

So, which one is true? Are both of them true?
