76  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Something I think we need to realize vis-à-vis Mike and the band's name... on: July 25, 2017, 01:08:27 PM
Mike is 75.  I think he can do it for another 2-3 years, provided fans keep buying tickets.  I do not think he will be performing at 80 like Tony Bennett.

I expect the license will be then handed off to Jeff Foskett and Scott Totten to keep the money rolling in.

The large 1967 with the stain glass coloring inside them, makes that cover come alive.
78  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why has the song \ on: July 24, 2017, 12:15:12 PM
The song Sad, Sad, Summer, which is also on the soundtrack, is actually okay.
79  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Types of automobiles The BBs' members have been in? on: July 24, 2017, 09:08:30 AM
There was an ad in the late 1970's for Craig car stereos, with a photo of the entire group, including Brian, and their cars.
80  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Wild Honey T-Shirt on: July 24, 2017, 09:06:09 AM
The cover of the new CD, 1967 Sunshine Tomorrow, is very cool, it would make a great Beach Boys t-shirt.  I hope someone produces them because I will buy one.
81  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's next solo album (NPP followup) speculation and info thread on: July 17, 2017, 12:29:42 PM
I think they were there during the Hollywood Bowl show.
82  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: July 10, 2017, 12:50:38 PM
Aren't You Glad would have sounded a whole lot better without Brian's falsetto, it doesn't fit.

The theremin opening on Wild Honey is unique, but some other type of instrumental opening would have been better.
83  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What does Mike want? on: July 10, 2017, 12:43:44 PM
Has been Mike talked about the new version of Do It Again in any interview and why now?
84  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why has the song \ on: July 06, 2017, 03:48:44 PM
That's classic Mike Love fashion in the American Bandstand clip.
85  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Beach Boys Wild Honey(Sunshine Tomorrow) 2CD Set? on: July 06, 2017, 08:22:27 AM
The Rachel Gilman review in Pop Dust says that race riots were breaking out across the country in 1967, that was 1968, when ML King was killed in April of 1968.

Here Comes the Night is the best track from Sunshine tomorrow.  I Was Made To Love Her would have been a better song without the "you son of a bitch" vocal repeated in the background, it's grating to hear it.

Man, I hope my Amazon delivery of Sunshine Tomorrow shows up today.  I want to listen to this in my car all weekend.
87  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Would Al have been a better choice for lead on California Girls? on: June 27, 2017, 12:00:04 PM
No way on California Girls, but there are definitely some songs that would have been better with Al as the lead or sharing the lead with Mike.
88  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Aren't You Glad (2017 Stereo Mix) up on youtube! on: June 22, 2017, 12:32:50 PM
The best recording of Aren't You Glad is the live version on the Beach Boys Live In London record, the song has so much more life on that recording than the studio version.
89  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Brian Wilson comp coming with \ on: June 22, 2017, 12:31:13 PM
I don't understand the timing of this BW release.  There is a Beach Boys CD just about to be released (1967), why not let that CD have its run before announcing a BW collection.  I am focused on 1967/Wild Honey, not interested in anything else.
90  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Oh Darlin' vs It's Getting Late on: May 30, 2017, 12:37:24 PM
The poor songwriting and Brian's ragged voice hurt the 1985 album a lot.  Mike Love's vocals are lacking as well.
91  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Intermission on: May 18, 2017, 12:35:47 PM
It gives the band a chance to rest their voices for a few minutes, have something to drink, before they go back out and crank it up.  I think every Beach Boys concert I have been to since the 1970's had an intermission.
92  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What Do You Consider As 5 Big Ones off 15 Big Ones? on: May 11, 2017, 12:31:33 PM
1.  Rock 'n roll music
2.  It's OK
3.  Had To Phone Ya
4.  Palisades Park
5.  Susie Cinncinatti

With some work, I suspect Palisades Park could have been a whole lot better.

93  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: May 11, 2017, 12:28:06 PM
I like the song, the lead vocal and background vocals are very good.  I can't stand the line in the song, "high up on a hill, making love again."
94  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which BB songs could have been released incognito as being from another band? on: April 19, 2017, 12:19:10 PM
Maybe Feel Flows, which is a very different sounding Beach Boys song.
95  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Excluding Interviews, Mike Seems... Okay on: April 17, 2017, 05:13:46 PM
I wish Mike was a little more outspoken in the past when albums full of dreck were recorded and released, like MIU, maybe some of those trainwrecks could have been avoided.
96  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Mike Interview/Article - UK Independent on: March 30, 2017, 04:06:15 PM
I would prefer that Mike not mention Brian's issues, past and current, when asked about their relationship, but there's probably more truth to what he says than most would care to admit.  I also cannot blame him if he's extremely irritated that he has to deal with someone who has no background in the music business, if he wants to work with or deal with Brian Wilson.
97  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Would Mike Love Be A More Prolific Writer As A Beach Boy? on: March 27, 2017, 12:53:21 PM
For Mike to be successful as a songwriter these days, he would need a partner that would be blunt with him and push him to write at a higher level.  Brian Wilson is not that person.  At his age and in light of his prior statements, I doubt Mike is motivated to spend the time necessary to craft a song that works on a creative level.

The natural follow-up to Kokomo would have been Lahaina Aloha.  Similar feel to Kokomo.
99  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: David Letterman gives a shout out to Al Jardine on: March 06, 2017, 12:27:15 PM
Letterman is a mean spirited guy, quick to to insult others.

Wouldn't It Be Nice is one of the greatest pop songs ever written and produced, perhaps the greatest.  So, no it's not overrated.
