"Which part in Goin' On do you mean?"

There's a part of the song, actually twice, where it's only Brian singing - Gooin' Oon.  I'm sure it was done to make him more part of the effort, but he didn't have the vocal ability to pull it off.

Goin' On is the standout track of the album because it's unmistakably a group sound, lead by Carl.  My problem with the track is Mike is too prominent in the mix, and the tag at the end with Brian, whose voice is way too rough to be singing that part.

Brian sang the tag on Getcha Back, same hoarse, horrible voice that brought that song down.

The title song, KTSA, is horrible.

And a disco version of "Dance Dance Dance."

L.A. Light album suffers from poor writing and nothing-special production.  It was a real disappointment.

I think the Beach Boys playing Trump's inauguration is no different than if Pres. Obama had asked them to play at his.  If the President or President elect ask you to come and play, you do it.  I believe Republicans should respect Pres. Obama just as Democrats should respect President Trump, recognizing there are strong partisan feelings all the way around.
107  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Should the Beach Boys play the Trump inauguration? on: November 30, 2016, 05:04:34 PM
I went to the show on January 19, 1981 at Constitution Hall when the group played at Ronald Reagan's inauguration.  Carl, Bruce, Alan and Mike, don't remember if Dennis was there, but Mike played a wailing saxophone.  It was one of the best BBs shows I ever went to.  If they feel like they want to be involved, go.
108  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why Brian Dumped Mike: Exhibit A, \ on: November 28, 2016, 01:05:26 PM
I totally disagree with the premise of this thread.  Mike Love really nailed it when he wrote the words to this song, it was a masterpiece, a guy thinking about all the beautiful women out there in the world.  What guy hasn't thought about that.  The organ in the background gives the song an amusement park type of feel that works with all the other incredible aspects of the song.   I'm sure BW had his reason to expand his horizons and work with VDP, but this song was not the reason to give Mike the heave ho.  Did it have anything to do with Mike was on the road and not around?

When Mike Love and Bruce retire, that should be it, no more Beach Boys.

If they were living at Dennis' house with him, wasn't Dennis part of the family?
111  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's book tour dates on: November 15, 2016, 09:02:28 AM
There were a number of songs that were rejected including Al's Waves of Love and Bruce's redo of She Believes In Love Again.

Didn't Mike bring Daybreak Over the Ocean to the album, a previously recorded song?

If Mike had more control over the album, I think it would have been inferior to what ended up being released.  Mike has not produced any great songs in the last decade, although he has put some recordings out in the public domain.  His often repeated comment that he has a better commercial sense than others in the band doesn't hold up if you look back over the last 20-30 years.

I think Mike lives in Incline Village, Nevada.

There's some L.A. shots in Batman and the Monkees tv show.

Although Brian was around during the Baywatch period, I suspect he was not up to writing and producing at a high level.

How many thousands of times has BW been asked about the dark years of mental illness and drug use.  It's in the book so it's fair game, but enough already.

What is the Carol Mountain story?
118  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Rolling Stone Interview with Brian on: October 11, 2016, 01:16:45 PM
I read both articles and can't remember in which one BW said he'd like to record a new song with Mike Love, a good song.  Sounds like an olive branch, if not an invitation.
119  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Are we there yet?: on the road with Beach Boy Brian Wilson on: October 11, 2016, 11:34:59 AM

Absolute rubbish. A steaming Trump like generalisation.

I don't think so.  That article is a genuine peek behind the curtain at what BW is like, it's not rubbish.  It's quite consistent with the comments Jeff Beck made.  All performers are concerned about the money.  This is Brian's last big tour, cashing in on Pet Sounds.  There's nothing wrong with going for the money.
120  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Are we there yet?: on the road with Beach Boy Brian Wilson on: October 10, 2016, 01:05:42 PM
In the music business, it's always about the money.   Did you get the impression from the article that BW enjoys traveling around at the pace described, being on stage and meeting the people who pay extra for the backstage meet and greets?
121  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Are we there yet?: on the road with Beach Boy Brian Wilson on: October 10, 2016, 12:43:33 PM
A pretty good article.  This seems like a much more account of who Brian Wilson is today.  I wondered why he goes through all the rigors of a long tour, which he doesn't seem to enjoy.  It doesn't seem like he enjoys interacting with the fans or being on stage.  It's all about the money.
122  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: good vibrations Poster on: October 07, 2016, 01:15:08 PM
Good Vibrations came out in 1966, hippies and peace symbols came later.  I don't like the association.

At the high school dance, this was one where you held the girl close and danced nice and slow.
124  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike's Book Discussion Thread (and how it relates to the SS board) on: September 28, 2016, 12:49:30 PM
Nothing has prevented Mike Love from writing new songs and proving that he can still write hits without Brian Wilson, but the best he comes up with is Pisces Brothers.  Would Kokomo have still been a hit if Mike hadn't made a small change in the lyrics?  Probably.  He put up with a lot of crap touring with a band that had a totally dysfunctional member, but he has a lot of his own baggage.  I wish someone would ask him why he spent so much time in this book settling scores and venting about grudges when he has often described himself as someone who emphasizes the positive.

Loved the original, don't care for the disco version.  Carl Wilson's vocal on the disco version is not very good.
