26  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Salesman 1967: Craig Smith, Mike Nesmith, and Mike Love...and Brian? on: February 17, 2019, 07:56:48 AM
I'd never heard of Craig Smith until GF's post seven years ago. Here's an interesting article, from Sept. 2016, reviewing Mike Stax's book. When Craig Smith left for a trip on the Hippie Trail in 1968 Mike Love threw a going away party at his house. Unfortunately, Mike declined to be interviewed for the book. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/7bmxzx/swimming-through-the-darkness-the-hunt-for-craig-smith-psychedelic-messiah
I also sought out the book and the music after reading this thread. Truly fascinating story (and the Penny Arkade version of Country Girl is a 10/10).

Somehow it comes natural to me to read the exclamation mark parts of the rider in Bruce's voice.

I'm with c-man here. Could be a non-typical Mike.
29  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2019 Tour Thread on: January 10, 2019, 08:30:29 AM
Out of curiousity, how long does it take for a band of Brian's caliber to rehearse a song from scratch up until it's ready to be performed? Take for example "Mess of Help" which they haven't done live (and I can dream, can't I?). If Brian came up with the idea to play it, how long before it could be in the setlist?

The other hashtags were #rip    #buzzclifford

So maybe that musician passed away from lung cancer.
Complications of influenza, Wikipedia says (about Clifford).
31  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: David Marks on: January 02, 2019, 07:14:16 AM
Yes, photos posted on both Facebook and Instagram showing him in a hospital bed. I came to the same conclusion, unfortunately.
One photo out of several posted as a summary of 2018 showed him in a hospital bed. I saw nothing to conclude for sure that he is there at this moment.
32  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's Mt. Vernon & Fairway artwork + have any BBs members done visual art? on: December 20, 2018, 09:56:02 AM
I think Brian did the drawing on the 45 of Love and Mercy.
Wasn't the original album cover for "Imagination" supposed to be an illustration by Brian?

You mean this from the promo CD?

Shocked I can think of very few albums with a greater mismatch between album art and music style, had that been the cover. That's like Brian's version of Munch's The Scream.
33  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Smiley Smile Message Board Milestone - And General Words Of Thanks on: December 13, 2018, 02:56:11 AM
Billy can sing everyone’s in love with you since his kid can make a better backing track than the album version.

LOL

Hey the crazy part is she is already working on a dubstep cover of Busy Doin' Nothing so there you have it :D
I would so love to hear that.
34  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: From Yahoo Entertainment...Mike discusses riff with Brian on: December 11, 2018, 12:25:45 PM
Unfortunately, it's "rift", not "riff".

Wonder who he'll replace...
One of the comments on his Facebook mentions him singing perfect falsetto, so maybe Matt?
37  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: General Copyright Extension Question on: October 18, 2018, 09:40:45 PM
So What's the deal with all the repackaged and renamed releases of e.g. the Surfin' Safari and Surfer Girl albums that have been popping up the last few years?
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Caribou Ranch (1975) fanmix on: October 18, 2018, 07:18:40 AM
Sounds interesting
You can listen to it in shanghaijoe’s Sweet Mountain alternate album on YouTube, posted above.

BTW, regarding said Sweet Mountain album, “Awake” is credited solely to Floyd Tucker. Who this guy even was is still kinda up in the air, but the song definitely isn’t credited to Brian and David.

Yes, I started a thread on Floyd Tucker here years ago. Hardly gave any info at all.
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: RIP the real Peggy Sue :( on: October 05, 2018, 12:29:44 PM
I should add... how many songs in the Beach Boys cannon have song titles based on real people? Off the top of my head, Caroline No, Marilyn Rovell, My Diane, Judy (?), and probably a few others I can't recall.  Peggy might be one of the 1st Beach Boys song title namesakes to have left us  Cry

Judy Bowles I presume?

Other titles:
Anna Lee, The Healer
Carl's Big Chance
Dennys's Drums

Good to see you back, Smile-Holland! Smiley

The Album Results are here!
Someone recognizing their list, i.e. did someone rank them in the exact same order as what turned up as the total top 10?

44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Got a great gift from my wife - whats your best BB/BW related gift? on: May 18, 2018, 01:21:44 PM
I have, several times, been taken backstage to both BW and BB concerts by a good friend of mine, something which I always will be grateful for.
45  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Something's coming...Stay tuned on: May 09, 2018, 10:22:35 AM
It’s going to be one of those awful orchestral backup albums. They’ve done Elvis, Roy O. and Aretha thus far.
What's the Abbey Road connection?

Edit: found it.

"Susie Cincinnati" played in Toledo tonight..

Al says it was the first time since 1976.

The Wild Honey trilogy was AWESOME!
Wow! How did it sound? What key?
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did Al Jardine die in 1965 only to be replaced by a lookalike ? on: August 23, 2017, 11:15:41 AM
Nothing really. It turns out Watamushi is the real Al Jardine. Proof was offered but Range Rover didn't believe it and this argument broke out. I bravely stepped between them and took some verbal damage, cos that's the kind of guy I am.

I'm OK though, don't worry.
I should have known. If you write Watamushi in capital letters and take away all letters except "A" and "I" and put them next to each other, what do you get? Al, of course.
48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Who played 12 string guitar and Bass on That's Not Me? on: August 12, 2017, 03:30:03 AM
Thanks everyone for clearing this up.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the personnel comes to this:

Brian - Organ, Dano Bass Guitar, Fender Bass Guitar
Dennis- Drums
Carl- 6-string electric guitar, 12-string electric guitar (doubled)
Terry Melcher - Tambourine
Steve Korthof- Tambourine
Hal Blaine- "Wooden Percussion Instrument"

That is my belief, yes. Plus Mike, Brian, Carl, Al and Bruce on vocals.
No Dennis singing?

50  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce, Brian, Al and Blondie, Take a bow.... on: July 26, 2017, 11:04:22 AM
Keep in mind Brian Wilson suddenly quit touring around the same age after a mental breakdown.  I can't imagine the situation for Justin Bieber is significantly different.

I don't see the Beiber emerging from this and writing something on the level of a modern day Pet Sounds. Cheesy

 Cheesy

(I envision Bieber befriending a young and gifted poet and lyricist; they might ingest a mushroom or two; and suddenly the Bieb starts hallucinating about Canada's Great Past, its indigenous population, its beautiful outdoors, its modernization, and everything else under the sun. The lyricist barely can keep mental track with such an explosion of sheer creativity. He jots down his ideas at lightning speed.

The Bieb then asks his friend if he could bring a moose in there.)

 LOL LOL
