Is Meet The Beatles just SUPPOSED to sound like "beat the meatholes" or is my brain more broken than I had previously thought?

This poll includes posthumous and a couple other non.essentials. it should just be Meet the beatles, hard days night, help, rubber soul, revolver, sgt pep, white album and abbey rd.

Look at clips like the TAMI show and tell me who was getting the crowd wild.  Listen to some interviews and tell me who got the most responses from the crowd.

Absolutely! Shame that Dennis couldn't be coaxed or eased in with being more out front. I'm sure that people would have rather seen him than the lovester who looked more like their dad.

Carl was extraordinary! But this is a scratch vocal, not unlike "Go and get that girl" and "Waves of love". Not up to his standards.

I feel like folks only treat these vocals differently knowing they're scratch vocals. Like, if that knowledge hadn't been put out there, they wouldn't be scrutinized so much and they'd be considered as good as about any other vocal he did during that time.

Regardless, a Carl Wilson scratch vocal still beats a lot of other folks' best, I could never go as far as to call his work on "Soulful Old Man Sunshine" etc. "half-assed".

Wasn't Van Dyke not on great terms with Team Brian at the time? Either way, if it was on his part of their part, you would hope they could set that aside for something like this.

Should also mention that at one point or another every member of The Beach Boys (With the exception of Blondie and Ricky, who were at the right place at the right time) was in the wrong group.

What group would Al be in otherwise? No offense to him personally, but it's not like he had the songwriting chops or household name brand of the Wilson's. Mike is largely talentless and lives off the brand name; no way hed ever want to be anything but a Beach Boy. I think everybody was held back and probably largely made miserable from the late '70s on. But I think Brian and Dennis are the only two who proved that they could have made it on their own if they had really set their minds to it. Carl did make two solo albums, but from what I've heard from just about every review I've seen is that they arent very good.

Again, just because you can't "make it on your own" with the musical chops of Brian "Jesus" Wilson doesn't mean you wouldn't do well as part of another group. The implication that Al and Mike are "talentless" or nearly talentless isn't appreciated. No, they didn't write and produce five thousand songs a year like Brian did in his peak, but their names are attached to some really nice songs, productions, and performances.

I think what I was suggesting is they may well appreciate the Beach Boys almost as much as most of us here do.  And that is, of course, noteworthy.  I'd imagine they own, between them, more than just Best of the Beach Boys Volumes 1 and 2.   [and then there was Keith Moon.]

I've never held myself up as an authority on the Beach Boys; I've just worshiped the band most of my life and read everything about the BBs I could get my hands on.  But it's been my opinion that Brian was absolutely the least supportive, most dismissive of Dennis' musical abilities of any of the Beach Boys (outside of Mike Love, maybe).

Jeez. I wouldn't go THAT far (as to say Brian was "most dismissive"). Also, damn, Mike co-wrote a few Dennis solo songs, songs that were seemingly never meant for Beach Boys records, thus no personal gain for Mike outside of a few literal pennies in royalties. Doesn't that mean anything to you guys?

I don't understand the "Wind Chimes" or "Good Vibrations" "doesn't fit" the Smile album theories. The lyrics are all over the place in any form of the album you could conceive of. Yeah, a few sets of songs have slight common themes, but not much, and not enough to exclude the likes frigging "Good Vibrations", which was absolutely intended for the album.

Folks're too rigid with their interpretations of Smile and its lyrics, the album title, etc. To me, there's a huge amount of freedom in those songs and sessions and lyrics, and the idea of being so strict with it just doesn't make sense. "A song entitled 'Our Prayer' belongs on an album called Dumb Angel, but not Smile!" "'Surf's Up' is waaay too dark for an album called Smile!" "There isn't even a lyric about worms in the song titled 'Do You Like Worms?' JEEZ!" To me, that sort of thinking doesn't jive with what Smile was.

I mean... it's not great, but it's kind of obviously meant to have a sort of "This was put together in Photoshop" vibe to it. Like, I don't think it was meant to be a genuinely believable picture, you know? Like the giant 20x30 poster of my ex-girlfriend's cats that I made her. In that sense, I wouldn't say it's one of the worst Photoshop jobs I've seen at all.

Will the film be 100% flawless and free of annoying inaccuracies? Nah. But it's been gestating for yearsandyears, and I was just, and still am, excited to be able to FINALLY (ahem) see it.
