Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike now talking 50th Reunion with Brian

So... who was the tall, dark haired guy standing next to Willie while he was singing, singing along, and who nodded encouragingly when Willie looked over at him ? Hence my writing 'coaching' with the quote marks. As in 'moral support'. Can't speak for you, but I can tell the visual difference between 1995 Brian and 1995 Mike. What Mike was doing, to me is more lilke coaching. To me it was more like making a fool out of oneselve. But I agree with AGD, that scene is very cool. Especially if you consider yourself not just a BBs but also a Willie-fan. Would love to see Willie's appearance on Farm Aid (?) with Brian in the background

As far as Michael bashing goes, this is relatively light - I've seen people compare him to Adolf Hitler. Now let's see who the foda up ones are.
Where did you see this? I only heard about that comparison in a Bruce-interview. Never really did read or hear about this from another source.

Rick Rubin?
Ah well, I was thinking: Rubin did great things with Cash. Raw, unadulterated. Although Rubin has to be given credit, it wasn't that drastically different from what Cash did on Sun (with Sam Phillips and Jack Clement) or in parts of his 60s output. It was more or less just let the machines roll and give that guy a guitar. I think most of Rubin's work was to get songs, guest artists and of course having a label to put the records out. Just my opinion. I think Brian already did that kind of record with the IJWMFTT-soundtrack, although there were no new songs of course. Don't know if Rubin would be a good slection for Brian.

At this point Mike's "rant" is nothing but grand entertainment. Mike certainly wasn't the only one to "ruin" the Beach Boys career over the years. Brian, in fact, made some choice attempts of his own.
This is one thing about Mike-hating that has always bugged me. At that HOF ceremony, there was a huge elephant in the room, and is it fair to endlessly slam the guy who happened to mention the elephant, while unquestioningly worshipping those who dragged the elephant in there in the first place?
Was it cool for Fogerty to get up there and play Creedence songs while his former bandmates had to sit there with their wives and watch? (different ceremony/year/I know) Can you imagine for a moment how that must have felt for those guys? But Fogerty's a God, right? He can do things like that, right? But Mike simply makes mention of the bad vibes and he's a merdahole??
Fogerty had his right too. Those are all persnal issues and none of us walked in their shoes so we can't really know what went on and why

That would be great. They also release the classic albums with many, many outtakes, alternate takes, etc. You can follow the sessions to every song in detail. Except of course for the one take-recordings. I just got the newest FTD, vol. 1 of the "Jailhouse rock"- EP. Just awesome. There were just 6 sons recorded for the movie (that's why it wasn't a LP) but the put on the complete sessions for "Treat me nice" (movie version), "I want to be free" and "Young & beautiful". It's so great to hear Elvis work in the studio and tell the musicians and singer what they should do. Pure gold ! Can't wait for vol. 2 previously unreleased concert recordings (often referred to as soundboard recordings) BTW they also released several multi-trak recordings, nut just soundboards

When I first head the "Denny fell asleep in the his camper" story, when the original two-fers came out, one thing came into my mind that I've never hear answered: Why didn't anybody try to wake him?
In 1965 it would be an actual case of "taking a nap" rather than "passing out," right? Why didn't someone go to the parking lot and say, "Wake up, Denny, we need you in the studio"?
Maybe everyone else was already in the studio and waited for Dennis, not knowing that he actually was on the parking lot in his camper. Then he told them afterwards that he fell asleep and apologized

I read somewhere that Dennis wasn't around to sing a lead on this album. I don't remember where. But does anybody know that if any songs for this album were considered as a Denny lead? On a different topic, what ever happened to NOBODY? I guess it could be "You're so good to me" as Brian is audible on background vocals and of course also sings the lead (one of my very favorite Brian-leads ever btw)

Hi Paulos -- You're not in a dream world with that thought. It's a case of 'when'...not 'if'.
Also, congrats on (finally) getting Adam Marsland's CD. It's great isn't it?!! And he's truly a nice guy as well. Just so you know...
I remember reading that the POB/Bambu release sold rather well. If that is the case then maybe there is promise. I have seen pictures and reviews of a best of Dennis Wilson called Dreamer. But I've never seen it in the stores. Was that ever released in the US? That's a bootleg iirc

I'd be willing to pay extra for a BW show if he'd leave Barbara Ann out. Always a downer to hear that piece of cr*p after all that brilliant music.
Piece of crap? It's just a blues song. Do you hate the blues? Uhh, that's gotta be wanna the weirdest claims ever, and I mean EVER! I IV V doesn't mean blues, man. And Barbara Ann certainly blows. I don't know a lot about music theory, but Barbara Ann always sounded like a doo-wop song to me...and yes, it's horrible! It is a doo-wop song. And it's great. Unfortunately the current BB-versions (and in fact the Beach Boys from at least the late 70s on) don't do the song justice. The studio version is nice, but check out the original by The Regents. That's very good. Jan&Dean's studio version is nice, too

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Jerry Lee Lewis - Mean ol' man

Here are some news on the album (took it from a JLL-forum): Kay Martin wrote on Yahoo messageboard about her talk with Jerry Lee: (partly)
..... We discussed the new album. He thinks some of the songs will be available through Amazon by Christmas, but the CD itself will be ready early next year. I have no idea why it's worked out that way. He and I agreed that the music industry lately is a far cry from what it was when we were younger. Some of the songs.... We already know about Mean Old Man (which he intends to incorporate into his live shows), but there are a few other Kris Kristofferson songs included: Come Sundown, Here Comes That Rainbow Again and You Can Have Her. (Not sure if that last one is KK or not). I asked if he had re-recorded any of his older songs, because we had that question here. Yes, one song has been included that he had out in the past. We are supposedly going to be GLAD he did.... The balance of the songs on the CD are those you have never heard JLL do before. They are keeping most of the titles a surprise. I'm really looking forward to hearing them! They were produced by Jim Keltner and Steve Bing, with Phoebe as Executive Producer. "You can have her" (if not a new song) is of course not by Kristofferson.

Carl, Michael and Gage are all Dennis' sons. His other sons are Christopher, Ryan and Scott and he also has a daugter, Jennifer.
Just to be entirely accurate, Scott was his adopted son: mother was first wife Carole. I heard about rumours that Scott may be Jim Morrison's son. Any truth to that?

And all I'm saying is I don't hear any direct quotes of the Bach "Air" anywhere in "Wind Chimes".
I don't think that anybody talked about direct quotes (I certainly didn't mean that). It's just feeling wise, it's kinda reminiscing.
