Coll. Hope the album will come out soon too...
DFTS has some classic Mike-bassvocals. Love it. After all, it's the first new Beach Boys-recording in how many years?

Not new. The basic track & Carl's vocal date from the late 70s/early 80s.

I know. But I guess you also know what I mean....

Anyone seen this short film about Dennis meeting Manson?

Very interesting !!
Some facts are rong but the Dennis-actor was better than any from the movies imho

Damnit !!  So, if nobody did record it back then I don't know how one could listen to it again. If anybody has it and would want to share it, please tell us
8457  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: Brian Wilson BBC Record Producer's Special on: February 17, 2010, 04:52:30 AM
Sounds interesting. Is there an air date? Do you have a link to the site?
8458  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Gershwin Album on: February 12, 2010, 11:09:09 AM
I think the one positive aspect we can all agree on is he is  more comfortable 'being' "Brian Wilson".  He no longer wants to hide from the world it seems. And yes if Brian never recorded another note in his life but could have peace of mind I wouldn't complain.  He's already gave us so much.  Anything now is strictly a bonus.

My thoughts exactly. I watched with glee the interview on Grammy Night, he was so at ease, and Al in his vicinity... l

You know when they first started to "hang out" together all of us were wondering about a reunion and there were enough rumourse out there. But it's been a while since we last heard such a rumour and that (as well as the Grammy-video) make me think that Brian and Al really are just....hanging out. No pressure, not for a special project or promotion. Just as friends. That would be cool because it'd mean that something that must've disturbed Brian for at least 12 years (his relationship with the Beach Boys) is mending and he therefor (and Al probably too) feels alot better about his past.... Just my opinion of course

I loved it when it came out, but if I listen to it now, I think some of the production could be better lead vocal-wise. Some parts sound quite dry to me like on H&V (if you know what I mean). I dig the sound of TLOS more to tell you the truth. Not to say that Smile isn't a great album of course
8460  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: February 12, 2010, 10:22:53 AM
What will he do next? Louie Louie? Surfin' Bird? Woolly Bully?

I'd actually like to see Brian reading the lyrics to "Surfin' Bird" from a teleprompter while performing!

 LOL ahpapapapapapapapapapapapapa-oomowomowomow-papa-oomowmowmowowmow (ad infinitum)...

I've been only waiting to post this one again:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okVglyNzRFk

Back to Brian's recording of CS, I'm not very impressed by his vocals, but the track, especially the drums, sound great !

Check out the german message board for more interesting pics (taken by Ed Roach) in an article from '76 called "A session with the Beach Boys" by Bob Weil.

8462  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Smile mixes with non-smile tracks on: February 11, 2010, 10:27:15 AM
I was using Time to Get Alone right after I'm in Great Shape.  It fits lyrically but not musically so I've dropped it.  I use an edit of Can't Wait Too Long with an early take of With Me Tonight and slip in the snippet of Bachrach's Walk on By.  I use Diamond Head for the elements.  It works much better than Love to Say Dada.  Fall Breaks is my earth element.  I also use Little Pad & Cool, Cool Water.  I've gone back and forth with the single and the album version of CCW.  Old Man River is used in my Americana suite.

Interesting because, IIRC, "Time to get alone" and "Diamond head" were both on the list Brian gave Darian which included songs for Smile
8463  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Would Brian make more money.... on: February 05, 2010, 03:02:49 AM
I know this appears to be a dumb question (so feel free to hammer me), but, does anybody else, other than Brian Wilson, get paid for NOT performing at Beach Boys' concerts?

You make too much money buddy ?

Ruling the scene with Al Jardine!!!

Lean and mean that's Al Jardine!

Biggest gleam for Al Jardine !!

It wasn't finished

Seriously I wonder if they wear the same (or similar) shirts to make clear, that they are representing the same band.

Maybe they should've worn some vintage striped shirts....
8467  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian at Grammys - End of Video with Al on: February 01, 2010, 02:30:46 PM
That's surreal! Why were they so interested in him? Was it because he was the favorite to win the prestigious Most Postponed EP and Album Award?

Maybe it's because he's an original member of the biggest american band ever !

BTW his voice on that very short "Barbara Ann"-part sounds beautiful
8468  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian at Grammys - End of Video with Al on: February 01, 2010, 06:26:02 AM
Nice that Al and Brian are on good terms.

Yeah, that's very cool. I agree !

In the youtube-thread a video was posted of Al being interviewed, but unfortunately you can't hear him
8469  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: The Official BB You Tube Thread on: January 29, 2010, 01:40:46 PM
Mike is dancing around like friggin' idot....but considering what he already did that night, I'm not surprised.  I love that Mick just ignores him the entire time all awhile Mike is desperately trying to get his attention.

Why no Carl up there?  I would have thought Carl, of all BB's, would want to jam on some guitar with the Stones.

You can see Brian for a second on "I saw her standing there" but he wasn't with Mike and Al, so I guess Carl was also somewhere else. Maybe with Brian...

8471  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love's belated songwriting credits on: January 27, 2010, 10:18:58 AM
This means that Mike is credited on all four #1 hits of the BBs.

Yeah, it's interesting to note that Mike and Brian both (co-)wrote 4 no.1s, but Brian didn't do all for the Beach Boys ("Surf city")

Quote
it includes pretty much every pre-65 song that listed Brian as the sole write

I wouldn't doubt Mike having a hand in some of the lyrics, but to what extent I don't know.
8472  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike Love's belated songwriting credits on: January 27, 2010, 09:05:44 AM
Is there a list of the 40 songs that he sued for but didn't get credit for somewhere?

Yeah, that would be interesting. And what's his/Brian's standpoint of them now? I guess "Surfin USA" was one of those as Mike still claims to have written the words.
8473  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: Brian Wilson on SNL Videos! on: January 25, 2010, 02:52:02 PM
I hadn't seen it, so thank you !! Very good quality (wel, the footage...). There were some mighty good musicians in the SNL-band.... Unfortunately Brian wasn't the same anymore

George Jones - Hits I missed.... and one I didn't

Terrible title but a fantastic (!) album. And though I don't like re-recordings, the new version of "He stopped loving her today" (the one he didn't) is very, very good.
