Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Re: Beach Boys at Winterland San Francisco early-mid 70's

Hello Ed Roach! Thank you for backing up my story on the Winterland show. Its good to know someone else was aware of it. I love all your posts. I also saw a show in Berkeley wherein Brian was the only Wilson onstage. Early 80's I believe.
That must've been...hm...interesting. You're so lucky to have seen the BBs in so many variations. Just think about it, in a few years (although I don't hope so), we're probably not able to see any Beach Boy on stage.

something that I would hope would appear in a release this year (if rarities are released) would be proposed album artwork/back of the LPs/liner notes, IF they exist, not what appears on bootlegs.
I think those kind of stuff would be a good section on beachboyscentral.com. In fact I think it would be nice for that one to finally go online for the anniversary

This footage also exists with voice overs by Carl. Some of it was presented in Endless Harmony. He describes how nice it is to just relax while on tour and have breakfast. There is also a voice over (Not seen in Endless Harmony) where he describes how pretty it is outside the hotel. It was indeed shot in Bremen 68.
Around that time, my father saw one of the Beach Boys in Hannover (not far from Bremen) walking through the city. A friend told him that it was a Beach Boy, but my father couldn't remember which one it was when I showed him a picture. He said it might've been Bruce but he absolutely wasn't sure.

If Memphis had a Brian Wilson, he was probably this guy.
Memphis didn't need no Brian Wilson. There's so much great music and already enough talent coming out of that city, unbelievable (nothing against Brian of course). I was just listening to The Box Tops' "Non stop"-album. Such a wonderful record ! Can't believe I ignored them for so long....

I don't think playing solos is necessarily a part of rocking. Maybe he just wanted to be a part of a rock vibe, playing rhythm and singing. That role is no less rock than soloing, in my opinion. In fact, rock 'n' roll is built on the rhythm guitar (a person could argue).
That's not what I meant, sorry, I thought that Carl, who was the leadguitar-player in one of the biggest bands ever, would solo more when doing his own stuff (I also thought he would be the producer), it wasn't meant as a general thing, just that I would've thought of Carl in that way. On the other hand, there's not too much Rock'n'Roll is his solo work to be found and many of it is just average at best.

I don't remember Carl playing lead on any of his solo stuff...I could be wrong about that. But I remember looking for it at the time and not seeing it.
I'm pretty sure Carl played one of the solos on "Rockin' All Over The World", but that's probably it. He sure did rip it up live. Unfortunately the mix is terrible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT87QI4zXFgAlways wondered why Carl didn't do what he said he wanted to do with his solo stuff, that is let some Rock'n'Roll out of his system, which would include some guitar solos imo

What I'm saying is that their record company doesn't care because they are a dinosaur and a sinking ship, and that the BB's don't care because they are...too comfortable. So who's left to care? The guys behind the scenes banging their heads against the wall, they care, and they are increasingly frustrated as they pitch ideas to a sinking ship and some crabby old guys who aren't very interested. Of course all of this could change tomorrow...but don't hold your breath.
To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public. - Jack Rieley I love this quote...unfortunately it's so true...

Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: The Official BB You Tube Thread Beach Boys 1981 National Cheerleaders Compet

Hi, I would like to know does the Beach Boys Appearance from the National Cheerleaders Competition in 1981 show them performing Be True To Your School in its entirety? I found a clip of it i requested on You tube which is included here :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca1hcvkIjYM It only shows a snippet of the song after the introduction. I was just curious if that was the full portion of the clip. If anyone has the full Clip from that show I'd love to see it. Thanks, Sharon
I don't have an answer but I want to thank you for the link. First time I see this. Two things you can see in this clip: 1. Why Carl left (playing events like this) and of course how much his voice was missed 2. How ridiculous they were and how Dennis seems to be the only charismatic guy in the band. Even in these short seconds he has the crowd in the palm of his hand. But good Lord, his voice.... So sad....
